ATTENTION: Lately I've been very busy with studies and other real-life stuff, and that's why I haven't been updating the mod for a while. I'm currenly leaving the mod as a cold case. I'm very sorry for everyone who's been supporting me and this mod. As for mod pack developers, I'm giving permission for everyone to use this mod in their mod pack from version 0.15 and below, but please include my name in the credits Again, I'm sorry for leaving the project, but I simply don't have time nor motivation to continue modding for a while. Take care!
Don't you just hate it when you're playing Minecraft, building a house, gathering resources, killing animals, well, basically just relaxing and having fun, and then suddenly; rain. It's way too noisy. If you're talking to someone over a microphone, you can't hear what they're saying. The rain is so noisy you have to turn the volume down almost all the way. And it doesn't look any good either. It's too dark, making it extremely difficult to see, especially if it's night. As soon as it starts raining, you get the hell back to your bed, and you just hope it's dark enough to sleep. Well, in that case, this mod is for you! This is a very small mod, but will make your game much more relaxing.
The mod will significantly lower the volume of the rain, and the rain has a different sound too. Instead of sounding like a hurricane, the rain will now have a calm, relaxing sound. This mod will also fix the texture of the rain. It'll now be brighter and, depending on the strength of the rain, it'll also not be so thick. That means fewer drops of water.
As I mentioned above, the rain will come in different strengths. The strength of the rain is random. The textures of the rain will change accordingly to the strength of the rain. Let's say the weakest rain is zero, and the highest rain is a hundred. If the rain is zero, there will be no sound and no texture. If the strength is a hundred, the rain will be very thick, and the sound is at the loudest. Even though a hundred gives the most amount of sound, it will still be silent enough for you to enjoy your game without having to yell to your friends or turn down the volume. This mod will not change the gameplay in any way.
I have not spent very much time on this mod. It's a small mod, but it does what it's supposed to do. I'm not planning on updating this very often, but I will try to keep up with the Minecraft versions. And I haven't searched around a lot to see if there are already mods like this. I'm guessing there are, but in that case, you have more to choose from.

This is the lowest amount of rain. Very difficult to see in a picture, but small drops can be seen. Gives nothing, or very little sound.
Slightly more rain, still very silent and gives little ground particles.
Here you can see how much it can rain. Gives more sound than the previous strengths and will also drop more particles.
Please do not use direct links for the mod downloads for public uses. Doing so will keep people for getting the information needed, and it will keep them from getting the last update of the mod. Use the minecraftforum.net link.
If you want the rain strength to synchronize, that means, all the players can see the same rain in the server, make sure you put the mod in the server too.
Remember to delete any old versions of the mod before downloading the new one.
If the game crashes, do the following:-Download and install the LATEST-RECOMMENDED version of Forge, and make sure it has the same version as this mod.
-You might be missing your config folder. Just create a new folder in .minecraft called "config". For servers, create the folder where you've installed the server.
-Make sure you have added both of the .jar files to your mods folder. One of them is the regular mod, and one is the core mod.
-Download and install the latest version of Java.
-Update all your drivers. Outdated drivers can cause lots of trouble.
-Maybe you have a mod which conflicts with this one? Try disabling all the other mods, and then try to start the game. If it crashes, then post the crash log in this thread, or PM me.
I haven't had a lot of time to test the mod. If you find any bugs, big or small, feel free to post it in the thread or send me a private message.
Changelog:
v0.15 - Fixed a few crash errors as well as removed console spam. Fixed sound bug too.
v0.14 - Added config file and fixed the weather sound slider.
v0.133 - Fixed lag caused by version check.
v0.132 - No more flashing rain bug.
v0.13 - Config files are now .txt files and can be edited. Also fixed a few bugs.
v0.12 - New command. /rainstrength 0-100. Putting zero as a value will make it random.
v0.11 - Cleaned up the project and created a mcmod.info file
I have not tried this with Optifine, but I'm pretty sure it should work. And the sound is indeed what makes the rain bad in Minecraft, but I thought, why not do something more? Now there'll be more variation as well as it sounds more real.
Thanks for replying guys, means a lot. If you find any bugs, or if you have suggestions, feel free to comment.
Yeah, I wasn't really aware Forge for 1.7.10 was out when I released the mod, though I don't think they had released it when I started the mod. The mod might, however, work for 1.7.10, but I can't guarantee anything. I'll be updating as soon as I can.
That's wierd, never happened to me. I will look into it. Thanks for replying!
EDIT: Tested the mod in any way possible, could not find a cause for the rain flashing. Do you have any other mods? And are your graphic drivers updated? Also, does the vanilla rain flash? Hoping we can find a solution as soon as possible. I have time to fix the mod if I can find out what's wrong. Oh, and are you running the mod only client side or on server side too? It should work both ways, but I just need all the info I can get
Works pretty good, except for multiplayer (forge 1180, 1.7.10 vanilla software). The rain switches on and off so fast that its hurting my eyes in multiplayer. Can you perhaps fix this when you have the time?
I had the same issue. Try deleting the config files on the server and upload your own from the client.
I have a "few" suggestions... 1. when it rains heavily enough, make it so that puddles form which can be used to.. depending on the size, fill up buckets to that size. and if you have a quarter filled bucket, and you fill it up using a full water source, it turns the whole water source into a quarter puddle. 2. if it rains hard enough and long enough, make it so that floods can occur. the floods will dissipate after a while. 3. quarter filled buckets, halve filled buckets, etc, will fill up cauldrons respectively. well, I'm out of suggestions, and I'm saying that this mod could get very big! seeya!
I've been working my ass off to fix this issue, but I can't seem to find the problem. The server config files are called the same as the world, but with "Server" behind. This is just to make it safer, in case people put their server in the .minecraft folder or something. It should load the file with the correct name with no issue. I've been doing small fixes to the mod while trying to figure the problem, and I will upload the new files asap. Hopefully it'll work better now, as I changed how the files save and load. If the rain flashing happens again, deleting the config folder should fix it.
The rain strengths gets saved in the .dat files. If it wasn't for them, the rain would change every time you exit and open the world. Have you tried the newest version? The saving and loading of files should work better, and hopefully it'll fix the flashing bug if you update. If it doesn't help, I'll just have to keep trying to find the bug.
So happy you guys like the mod! Never thought it would get this much attention

That relaxing rain music.... makes me tingle.
Rain in vanilla wouldn't be so bad if it sounded more real in my opinion:
