Born from a desire to carry around just a little bit more vis for node jarring, Advanced Thaumaturgy has been in development for a few months now, and has become a sort of "Extra Utilities" for Thaumcraft.
The main points of Advanced Thaumaturgy are the Mercurial Wand rod and it's upgrade crystals. It is a rod whose capacity ranges from 500-1000, depending on which Thaumcraft addons you have installed. It, like any other wand rod, can accept essentially any cap, but it's interesting feature is that it is upgradable with several different types of upgrade crystals, ranging from vis recharge to infusion stabilization (without requiring 200 candles littering your altar). This can result in a seriously powerful wand that incorporates the capabilities of several standard wands.
Blocks Fertilizer: Functioning much like a lamp of growth, the fertilizer keeps a very large area of farmland watered without requiring a water source nearby, and also randomly fertilizes most plants in it's area. It also causes plants that don't normally self spread to do so (mushrooms, flowers, lily pads).
Node Modifer: Allows you to manipulate a jarred aura node in a variety of ways, from rescuing a fading or pale mode, to cultivating a hungry node for sinister and devious purposes.
Essentia Engine: Accepts some types of essentia via pipes and converts it into Buildcraft Energy at an output rate of 10eu/t. Future support for RF, possibly other forms of energy.
Ethereal Jar: With the advent of many mods (AT being the first) that require large amounts of essentia for infusions, the Ethereal Jar provides a more compact storage option for essentia without quite crossing the 'ridiculously stupid' capacity of other mods.
Microlith: Derived from the massive obellisks seen in some worlds, and to a lesser extent, in the Overworld, the Microlith is a base that, when affixed with a special crystal, performs a myriad of functions, akin to the Seals previously available in Thaumcraft 2/3.
Altar Deployer (Creative Only) - A block that, when placed in the world and activated with a wand, sets up an infusion altar, complete with 12 pedestals and a 8x8 layer of candles buried under the altar for stability.
Items Mercurial Rod: Provides a wand rod with a capacity of 500-1000 vis.
Mercurial Wand: Any wand which uses the Mercurial Core as it's base; upgradable with many types of crystals.
Arcane Crystal: The basis for the Mercurial Wand upgrades as well as the crystals for the Microlith.
Oculus Solis (no texture): A bauble that provides ambient lighting around the player.
Sash of Altivolus (no texture): A bauble that replaces the functionality of the Thaumostatic Harness, providing the ability to fly without requiring constant jar swapping. Quite expensive to make, but pays for itself in the long run by reducing fall deaths from not paying attention to potentia levels, as well as reducing aggravation inherent in the unequip, open, remove, replace, and re-equip process involved with the Harness.
Endstone Chunk: A basic, unfired glob of endstone, shard, and emerald essence. Used to directly produce Arcane Crystals.
Focus: Void Cage (WIP, no recipe): Allows you to cage a mob in a pocket void for transport.
Aerosphere (WIP, no recipe): An item that, while held, creates a slightly lit bubble of air around you, allowing you to safely walk along the ocean floor (or under any other liquid).

Also I noticed under Downloads you have a Forge for version 1.6.4 listed as a requirement for your 1.7.2 mod. Figured I'd point that out to stem any mishaps. Great job, man! I'm actually (and I'm not kidding) very proud of you, mate. I saw this mod go from just a very nice wand to this, a mod that actually made me wait to update to 1.7.2. Keep up the good work, Lycaon!
EDIT: Unfortunately I'm getting the 500 Error as well. Maybe a fix soon? =D
tested several crystal enchantments... seems like they dont work... (infusion was fine just no effect)
I'll take a look, I swear they worked in build 1 ;p Azanor changed around how the NBT tags are applied during an infusion and unfortunately did not document it, so I'm shooting in the dark as far as getting the upgrade crystals to work again. At some point, you'll have a workbench to apply upgrades.

edit.: oh, by the way. the description of the essentia engine is a bit mixed up in your op. buildcraft uses MJ (minecraft joules), IC2 uses EU (energy units) as units. cheers.

well, the crystals are crafted with infusion anyways (at least in the 1.6 version). is a second infusion to apply them necessary?
they could just be crafted onto the wand in the arcane workbench (10 of every primal, done). its just an 8 essentia infusion anyways. and theyre complicated enough to craft, that the risk of losing them during the infusion, small as it is, is completely unecessary.
you could just put the 8 praecantatio to apply them to the wand into the crafting cost for the crystals. im not a fan of unecessary infusions anyways
just saying, this could save you a lot of work fiddling around with the nbt data. and it defeats the need for an extra crafting bench.
i just made your wand in 1.6 by the way. and it feels much better, than the original gigantic 2 infusions that where needed^^. even though the infusion is incredibly long, the 1000 vis capacity makes it feel worthwile.

Please don't assume that just because I make a mod means I am some random teenager just out of school that sits on their computer for 16 hours a day and mashes the refresh button on their mod's forum post eagerly hoping for some attention they're desperately seeking that they fail to get in real life.
As far as the Thaumonomicon goes, there's this thing called unlocking research prerequisites that you are generally required to do before other research is available to be discovered and/or completed. Since you provide me zero detail, I am left to assume the basic problems people have when they can't figure something out; aka, they didn't bother reading the instructions. If you can provide to me some modicum of detail that indicates you have actually RTFM and you're not actually just being stupid, then by all means, stop running me around and just post the details so I can give you a CLEAR CONCISE answer custom tailored to YOUR specific problem.
Regarding the wand upgrades, I just put Drain Multiplier on my wand and it worked fine. It's possible it's a bug I fixed in passing, but as it stands now, I can't reproduce it.
Try submitting a screenshot of the AT tab which doesn't have any of the entries. I just went through some research and the wand, core, and crystal main research all unlock as soon as I research Infusion.
Finally, you don't place crystals in the world, you infuse them into the wand at the infusion altar. Again, you show a complete lack of any sort of reading comprehension from the crystal's Thaumonomicon entries. All of the information required to use the crystals is in the book..
