This is a small Thaumcraft 4 addon I've been working on to add a little "darkness" to Thaumcraft.
Some of the current features include:
Five new wand cores, three of which add cross-mod interactions
Creative-only wand with infinite vis, for testing or shenanigans
New tools
New enchantments
A new craftable spawner that actually works without players nearby
Magical scribing tools to help with research
New flowers to help your thaumaturgy when Botania is installed
A new Blood Magic ritual to protect you from Warp
A new blood orb for blood mages who like to delve into the unspeakable
The current focus of development is to add mechanics along two separate themes: Taint and Infernalism. Items will revolve around the use of taint for unscrupulous ends, or channeling the seven deadly sins to rule with the power of the Nether.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: This mod is stopping me from researching Ichor! ಠ_ಠ
A: That's not even a question! And, no, the mod isn't. Forbidden Magic is programmed to load after Thaumic Tinkerer does. The research for FM doesn't even exist during the time TT is scraping the Thaumonomicon to figure out Ichor prereqs. Forbidden Magic research is not, and never has been, a prerequisite for Ichor research. If you're having problems, it's not FM's fault. Take it up with the other mods in your pack or with the TT authors.
Q: What other mods does Forbidden Magic interact with?
A: The following are all the mod interactions:
- Thaumcraft: Kind of required.
- Thaumic Tinkerer: Certain enchants can be used in the Osmotic Enchanter after being researched
- Blood Magic: There are a few Blood Magic toys that will run off of LP as well as a new ritual. FM also adds TC aspects to most BM items.
- Botania: There's wands for converting Botania mana into vis as well as a few new flowers.
- Natura: A few of the sin aspects are added to Natura items.
- Twilight Forest, Witchery: A few mobs have sin aspects added.
- Special Mobs: Special mobs can be spawned in the Wrath Cage
- Equivalent Exchange 3: Adds EMC values for various Thaumcraft items
Q: Have you thought of Witchery integration?
A: Yes, I have. I love Witchery. It's one of my favorite mods. Witchery Integration has definitely been a thing I've thought about. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't.
Q: What's the deal with the Eldritch Wand?!
A: The Eldritch Wand offers cross-mod compatibility when Player Beacons is installed. When Player Beacons isn't installed, the wand isn't available. If you see a FM wand in NEI and can't figure out how to get it, there's a good chance it's probably a conversion wand for a mod you don't have.
Unless you're playing FM for 1.7. Then it's just disabled for the time being.
Q: Is there world gen?
A: At the moment, no, there is no world gen in this mod. Feel free to drop it in an already existing world.

Nether Shards:
Wrath Shards drop from killing hostile mobs in the Nether. Using a more powerful sword or enchants such as Sharpness or Smite increase the drop chance.
Sloth Shards drop from mobs killed in the Nether by anything other than a player. Dropping mobs off a cliff, or grinding them with a "Fake Player" such as a Turtle or Dynamism Tablet causes them to drop.
Envy Shards can be seen carried by Zombie Pigmen sometimes. Killing the zombie pigman yourself while in the Nether causes the shard to drop.
Pride Shards drop when a boss is killed in the Nether. This can be the Wither, or any boss added by another mod that has the standard boss health bar, as long as it is in the Nether.
Lust Shards have a chance of dropping whenever you flog a mob with a Riding Crop. You don't need to kill the mob. The chance is per-hit.
Gluttony Shards have a chance of dropping every time you eat food.
Greed Shards have a chance of dropping every time you kill a mob with Looting or mine Nether Quartz with Fortune.
Blood Magic
Flux Taint potions can be brewed in a Blood Magic brewing stand from Flux Goo.
Blood Seal potions can be brewed from Tainted Blood Shards, which drop from tainted mobs that have been afflicted with Weakness III.
The Bound Scribing Tools are obtained by throwing a Crystal Scribing Tool into a Ritual of Binding. When they run out of ink, they can be right clicked
to refill themself at the cost of 10000 LP and giving you a burst of research points.
The ritual Plea of Delayed Insanity layout is as follows:
The ritual costs 20k LP to activate and costs 10k LP per person every 30 seconds. It applies Warp Ward to everyone within its area of effect, providing you with a safe sanctuary from Warp as long as you have enough LP. It may or may not have adverse effects on your long-term sanity, though, so running out of LP or walking out of its area is not recommended.

After looking at the mod for a little while I'd like to make some suggestions:
1. Could you please move a few things. Thaumic Exploration + Thaumic Tinkerer + This Mod = Lots of Crossing over things.
2. I would suggest better textures for: Pickaxe of Distortion (Only because of the Handle, It's just very akward looking without an equally akward looking top)), Shovel of the Purifier (You and me both know its just a recolor with very little changes)(Note: With spriting I can help if you want me too, I'm a very good sprite artist and I don't want anything in return other than you keep working on the mod ).
3. I'd like it if you connected the Emerald Shard recipe to the main transmutation research instead of onto gold since it feels very out of place otherwise.

Edit 3: I've been killing lots of stuff in the nether and have only gotten only a few Envy and alot of Wrath Shards but nothing else. I've killed every kind of mob many times am I doing something wrong? I currently assume all nether mobs can have Envy Shards?, Wrath Shards are from Killing Mobs, Taint Shards are from Tainted Mobs?, Pride Shards are from Ghasts?, Lust Shards can spawn when Mobs mate in the Nether?, Greed Shards I would appear when a mob picks up a players Items?, Sloth shards are from Ghasts?

I made it more purple, because it's infused with taint.
This is sized up to 128x128 so it people could see it better, I do have the 16x16 one if someone wants to use it.

I'm inclined to say that the shape could stand to be a bit more irregular as well, as thought the infusion of taint were actually physically warping the materials, but that's just me.

I've been using Thaumic Exploration and TT:Kami in my dev world to try and avoid overlaps and haven't noticed anything so far. What are we overlapping on?
I'm also looking into moving all the Infernal stuff onto their own tab and all the Taint stuff onto a Taint tab that Thaumic Exploration will be adding. Only issue I have is that I don't feel like I add enough things to warrant my own tabs.
On the other hand, the Artifice tab is oh so very crowded. Especially if you have TT:Kami installed.

I would suggest better textures for: Pickaxe of Distortion (Only because of the Handle, It's just very akward looking without an equally akward looking top)), Shovel of the Purifier (You and me both know its just a recolor with very little changes)(Note: With spriting I can help if you want me too, I'm a very good sprite artist and I don't want anything in return other than you keep working on the mod ).

Yeah, the mod definitely suffers from a severe case of Programmer Art. If you'd like to contribute some better textures, I'd be more than happy to take a look at them.
3. I'd like it if you connected the Emerald Shard recipe to the main transmutation research instead of onto gold since it feels very out of place otherwise. How I feel the Placements of current things should be like:
I don't really want to make the tools be parented under the existing tools. They're not really "upgrades" of them so much as side tiers. And the Wrath Cage and Diabolist Fork are placed where they are because I plan on adding a few more devices that need the fork and wanted to have space to put them all around it.
Edit 2: I would also like to ask how to I get Gula? Edit 3: I've been killing lots of stuff in the nether and have only gotten only a few Envy and alot of Wrath Shards but nothing else. I've killed every kind of mob many times am I doing something wrong? I currently assume all nether mobs can have Envy Shards?, Wrath Shards are from Killing Mobs, Taint Shards are from Tainted Mobs?, Pride Shards are from Ghasts?, Lust Shards can spawn when Mobs mate in the Nether?, Greed Shards I would appear when a mob picks up a players Items?, Sloth shards are from Ghasts?
Gula is Fames + Fames. The aspect can currently be found on cake, cookies, and rotten flesh.
Envy Shards are only carried by pigmen, because they're the only nether mob you can see the inventory of. Taint Shards are obtained by using the Shovel of the Purifier to dig up things like Tainted Soil and Crusted Taint. Pride Shards are dropped by killing bosses in the Nether. By default, that means the Wither, but it should also work on AM2 bosses or any other mod that adds bosses you can spawn/lure in the Nether. Sloth Shards have a chance to appear when a mob is killed by something other than a player. This means setting up a mob grinder. The mod can tell if a mob is killed by a fake player such as a turtle, spike, or dynamism tablet. Wrath Shards are indeed dropped by simply killing mobs. Drop chance is affected by weapon strength and enchantments such as Sharpness or Smite instead of Looting. Greed, Gluttony, and Lust have not been implemented yet.
Something like this? I made it more purple, because it's infused with taint. This is sized up to 128x128 so it people could see it better, I do have the 16x16 one if someone wants to use it.
That looks a lot nicer than the crappy texture I made. I agree with Zandorum and Anonthemouse that it's kinda bright and clean looking for a "taint" pickaxe, though.

Again needs a better texture, I'll give a wack at it. I also assume that it's tools that you can enchant but when you right click it goes to another mode in which you have 3 of. The modes dictate which set of enchantments your using so if I enchant Sharpness Looting on Red and Sharpness Fire Aspect on Blue If I'm on Red I'll have Sharpness Looting but if I'm on Blue I'll have Sharpness Fire Aspect or at least that's what I believe your trying to get across its a little vague.
I think anything that cant just go into a category like the Axe of the Skulltaker should go into a new tab but things like Wand Rod's and Wand Foci should stay in the main tabs.

Q: This mod is stopping me from researching Ichor! ಠ_ಠ
A: That's not even a question! And, no, the mod isn't. Forbidden Magic is programmed to load after Thaumic Tinkerer does. The research for FM doesn't even exist during the time TT is scraping the Thaumonomicon to figure out Ichor prereqs. Forbidden Magic research is not, and never has been, a prerequisite for Ichor research. If you're having problems, it's not FM's fault. Take it up with the other mods in your pack or with the TT authors.
Q: What other mods does Forbidden Magic interact with?
A: The following are all the mod interactions:
- Thaumcraft: Kind of required.
- Thaumic Tinkerer: Certain enchants can be used in the Osmotic Enchanter after being researched
- Blood Magic: There are a few Blood Magic toys that will run off of LP as well as a new ritual. FM also adds TC aspects to most BM items.
- Botania: There's wands for converting Botania mana into vis as well as a few new flowers.
- Natura: A few of the sin aspects are added to Natura items.
- Twilight Forest, Witchery: A few mobs have sin aspects added.
- Special Mobs: Special mobs can be spawned in the Wrath Cage
- Equivalent Exchange 3: Adds EMC values for various Thaumcraft items
Q: Have you thought of Witchery integration?
A: Yes, I have. I love Witchery. It's one of my favorite mods. Witchery Integration has definitely been a thing I've thought about. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't.
Q: What's the deal with the Eldritch Wand?!
A: The Eldritch Wand offers cross-mod compatibility when Player Beacons is installed. When Player Beacons isn't installed, the wand isn't available. If you see a FM wand in NEI and can't figure out how to get it, there's a good chance it's probably a conversion wand for a mod you don't have.
Unless you're playing FM for 1.7. Then it's just disabled for the time being.
Q: Is there world gen?
A: At the moment, no, there is no world gen in this mod. Feel free to drop it in an already existing world.

Nether Shards:
Sloth Shards drop from mobs killed in the Nether by anything other than a player. Dropping mobs off a cliff, or grinding them with a "Fake Player" such as a Turtle or Dynamism Tablet causes them to drop.
Envy Shards can be seen carried by Zombie Pigmen sometimes. Killing the zombie pigman yourself while in the Nether causes the shard to drop.
Pride Shards drop when a boss is killed in the Nether. This can be the Wither, or any boss added by another mod that has the standard boss health bar, as long as it is in the Nether.
Lust Shards have a chance of dropping whenever you flog a mob with a Riding Crop. You don't need to kill the mob. The chance is per-hit.
Gluttony Shards have a chance of dropping every time you eat food.
Greed Shards have a chance of dropping every time you kill a mob with Looting or mine Nether Quartz with Fortune.
Blood Magic
Blood Seal potions can be brewed from Tainted Blood Shards, which drop from tainted mobs that have been afflicted with Weakness III.
The Bound Scribing Tools are obtained by throwing a Crystal Scribing Tool into a Ritual of Binding. When they run out of ink, they can be right clicked
to refill themself at the cost of 10000 LP and giving you a burst of research points.
The ritual Plea of Delayed Insanity layout is as follows:
The ritual costs 20k LP to activate and costs 10k LP per person every 30 seconds. It applies Warp Ward to everyone within its area of effect, providing you with a safe sanctuary from Warp as long as you have enough LP. It may or may not have adverse effects on your long-term sanity, though, so running out of LP or walking out of its area is not recommended.

After looking at the mod for a little while I'd like to make some suggestions:
1. Could you please move a few things. Thaumic Exploration + Thaumic Tinkerer + This Mod = Lots of Crossing over things.
2. I would suggest better textures for: Pickaxe of Distortion (Only because of the Handle, It's just very akward looking without an equally akward looking top)), Shovel of the Purifier (You and me both know its just a recolor with very little changes)(Note: With spriting I can help if you want me too, I'm a very good sprite artist and I don't want anything in return other than you keep working on the mod
3. I'd like it if you connected the Emerald Shard recipe to the main transmutation research instead of onto gold since it feels very out of place otherwise.

Please take all of this as Constructive Criticism as it was ment to be taken that way. I will most likely be looking at this topic fairly often.

Edit 3: I've been killing lots of stuff in the nether and have only gotten only a few Envy and alot of Wrath Shards but nothing else. I've killed every kind of mob many times am I doing something wrong? I currently assume all nether mobs can have Envy Shards?, Wrath Shards are from Killing Mobs, Taint Shards are from Tainted Mobs?, Pride Shards are from Ghasts?, Lust Shards can spawn when Mobs mate in the Nether?, Greed Shards I would appear when a mob picks up a players Items?, Sloth shards are from Ghasts?

I agree but maybe a darker purple, it goes too light at the top.
I'm inclined to say that the shape could stand to be a bit more irregular as well, as thought the infusion of taint were actually physically warping the materials, but that's just me.
I've been using Thaumic Exploration and TT:Kami in my dev world to try and avoid overlaps and haven't noticed anything so far. What are we overlapping on?
I'm also looking into moving all the Infernal stuff onto their own tab and all the Taint stuff onto a Taint tab that Thaumic Exploration will be adding. Only issue I have is that I don't feel like I add enough things to warrant my own tabs.
On the other hand, the Artifice tab is oh so very crowded. Especially if you have TT:Kami installed.
Yeah, the mod definitely suffers from a severe case of Programmer Art.
I don't really want to make the tools be parented under the existing tools. They're not really "upgrades" of them so much as side tiers. And the Wrath Cage and Diabolist Fork are placed where they are because I plan on adding a few more devices that need the fork and wanted to have space to put them all around it.
Envy Shards are only carried by pigmen, because they're the only nether mob you can see the inventory of. Taint Shards are obtained by using the Shovel of the Purifier to dig up things like Tainted Soil and Crusted Taint. Pride Shards are dropped by killing bosses in the Nether. By default, that means the Wither, but it should also work on AM2 bosses or any other mod that adds bosses you can spawn/lure in the Nether. Sloth Shards have a chance to appear when a mob is killed by something other than a player. This means setting up a mob grinder. The mod can tell if a mob is killed by a fake player such as a turtle, spike, or dynamism tablet. Wrath Shards are indeed dropped by simply killing mobs. Drop chance is affected by weapon strength and enchantments such as Sharpness or Smite instead of Looting. Greed, Gluttony, and Lust have not been implemented yet.
That looks a lot nicer than the crappy texture I made.

That looks pretty cool! I think leaking would be cool, except it'll look odd when you swing the pickaxe and the taint comes flying out sideways.

Again needs a better texture, I'll give a wack at it. I also assume that it's tools that you can enchant but when you right click it goes to another mode in which you have 3 of. The modes dictate which set of enchantments your using so if I enchant Sharpness Looting on Red and Sharpness Fire Aspect on Blue If I'm on Red I'll have Sharpness Looting but if I'm on Blue I'll have Sharpness Fire Aspect or at least that's what I believe your trying to get across its a little vague.
