Pretty major issue here. I copied one of the ships from the gallery on your site into my world; when I pasted it, everything was fine. When I launched it, everything was fine. But when I docked it, it "fell" through the water and merged with some sand and dirt blocks. What the heck?

Sounds like a client/server desync issue. The server thought your ship sank, but the client didn't. You only found out about it when you tried to dock the ship. These issues are usually pretty rare. Hopefully it won't happen next time?
Too bad so many of the early images of ships in this thread no longer work--and the codes are for a previous version of MC from the one I'm using. I'd have loved to have seen what Hawker and Wulf were talking about. Too bad it's not in the ships gallery on your site!
Hi, I'm planning to use this in a survival-island / ocean exploration modpack tentatively titled PWoT Island. Really excited to try this mod out; I'm hoping this will take Archimedes Ships' place in all my future packs!
I'm having gamebreaking troubles in my SMP server.
Namely, whenever i start sailing a ship framedrops happen to anyone in the ship or in its vicinity. With very small ships this does not seem to be a problem, but with 2000ish blocks ships the framerate drops to a point it is not playable anymore. (1-5 fps)
This only happens in multiplayer. 2000+ blocks ships are fine in singleplayer.
The dedicated server specs are really high so it can't be a problem related to that.
I'm using Debian and the problem happens both with OpenJDK 7 and OpenJDK 8.
We're also using Optifine and Fastcraft. Removing either client-side did not solve the problem.
Also i'd like to mention that no relevant error is displayed in the server console, or the launcher console.
On its end, one of my user noticed drop in the GPU used resources when a ship is loaded.
EDIT:
On closer inspection, it would appear the client is switching to software rendering whenever a ship is loaded in SMP.
This is indeed weird and I will give it further investigation in the meantime.
Large ships are pretty laggy. I haven't done very much to optimize them. Especially the rendering. The rendering engine for Ships mod is very primitive, so just don't expect great performance. If I had infinite free time, I'd love to write a super sweet rendering system for the mod, but that's not going to happen any time soon.
Large ships work no problem single-player. It's something with the multiplayer.
The thing is it is not something that has to do with resources because the console does not report errors or overflows. My money is on some incompatibility with OpenJDK, but i can't try Sun Java atm and i don't have anything to back my thesis up.
It's always possible my shitty renderer is trying to use some GPU feature that's so awful, its forcing the driver to fall back to software rendering. Or maybe my renderer is exceeding some hardware resource limit because it's so poorly optimized and the driver is falling back so it doesn't crash everything ever.

Hi first off let me say I love your mod its awesome, however I'm having a problem, I have a ship made up of almost entirely out of dark oak planks and dark oak wood, there's is only one layer of cherry oak planks form the Biomes O' Plenty mod, and yet only the deck is above water and the boat is at least 12 blocks high, I also have furnaces, chest, enchantment tables, and dispensers for cannons, is my boat to heavy? its not really a big boat about 800 blocks.

Yep now almost the whole thing is under water lol XD, and to confirm its 789 blocks. So, I"m thinking about deleting this one and starting fresh.Any ideas on what to do so this won't happen to the new ship?
I had the same glitch. Only happened the first time I died.
This is in a brand new world made just to test ship designs. Ships mod is the only mod.
Also, it's easy to outrun chunk loading with a 9mps ship.
Video of a few ships I made, including the 9 m/s medium ship.

I've noticed that diagonal sails produce more thrust than flat sails.
It seems having any side of a wool block covered reduces thrust.
Hope you like it!

Cool! =)
That's actually some pretty valuable information. I'll have to remember that...

I don't know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How do they not? I use them together in my modpack

I'm glad you're enjoying the mod though! =)

Do you have a changelog? I found my old install running 1.0.2 and am wondering if it's worth it to upgrade.
These forums are dumb and break my links. I'm bubbleawsome on steam too.
Sure. Try the Update Logs on PMC.

Post a screenshot. I'd say its just weight.
