I noticed that the jetpacks weren't recharged by any capacitors that I was holding. I don't know id this was on purpose but it would be awesome if they could use power from the capacitors.

The capacitors only charge what you are currently holding in your hand. It's a limitation of the capacitor (likely intended). I'm not sure that Simply Jetpacks could get around it without fiddling.
You can take the jetpack off and put it in your hand to recharge it from a capacitor however.

Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana.
Hello! I've been lurking these forums for YEARS... and THIS mod finally made me register! I liked IC2, but that ship's sinking; and from the looks of it, their devs are trying to lift themselves by their boostraps lately, which works about just as well as you'd expect.
I dont know about the underlying code, but there is some neat originality to these jetpacks. For example, that slow-sinking option is good. And multiple tiers overall. And that Potato pack among them was a blast. Putting all those variables into the config is also good; config options like these ensure that there's something fun for everyone, and I'm thinking that the purpose of this mod is to restore something fun? And that's not all either, you (the dev) certainly seem more approachable and reasonable than the... uhh... you know. I cant code in Java, but I would at least like to contribute with some suggestions that I'd like to see inside if I could. Here's my little wishlist in no particular order.
Problem: Currently a jetpack uses the same amount of energy, no matter how much effort it's investing? I cannot check this for sure because there is no onscreen display, and I cannot do anything other than hover-sink while my inventory is open.
Solution: I would make it spend the amount of energy proportional to how much vertical speed it is adding. That way shift-sinking would use a reasonably less power than the jump-jet capabilities of the non-hover mode.
Problem: The slow-sink option feels great, because it finally allows me to mine from air, so that I could dig myself a platform in a cliff to stand on. BUT it comes with many issues for me. I know that you use Space to go up and Shift to go down in creative, and i can do it easily, but I simply cannot get used to it when using a jetpack no matter how I try. This is... the reason why I keep my jetpack disabled 90% of the time, and I wish that I didnt have to. Just imagine trying to go down a hill slope or a regular diagonal mineshaft staircase (rough, without any stair blocks). With the third and the fourth jetpacks you sink very slowly, so you press shift to sink faster, but then you immediately walk into the edge of that block on which you landed, and you must release shift so that you'd fall from the edge, of course you must press shift to sink again, and so on for every block in your tight mineshaft all the way to the bedrock... oh, and it's not much better if actual stairs are used either...
Solution: I warmly suggest that the "shift" function be inverted so that holding Shift actually means "hold position" and releasing Shift is the regular safe falling speed. Alternately, make a config option such as "invert_shift_function" so that various people can use the one that they like the better. I know that I'm just one person, but this is not allowing me to use the jetpacks to their fullest and to their most fun. We drop down various blocks as much as we climb them, and it does not seem engaging to have to press and release Shift every time we want to drop a few blocks (which is all the time).
Problem: This is something that I could not suggest to the IC2 team because I thought that they are not very approachable, but you may be able to make it happen! The jetpacks come with both jumpjet mode and the hover mode. But I've never used the jumpjet mode because it simply jumps me way too high, and 95% of the time I would land hard and lose health. Thus I was always on hover mode, bit it too had a tedious uphill rate and it took forever to get to a good height without switching modes. Also, in addition to having to turn the jetpack on and off all the time (which i wont do so much if my previous suggestion is implemented), one also has to switch modes all the time as well. Being that I plopped this into the FTB modpack, most of my keys are already used up and I dont have anything else nearby more accessible.
Solution: Have the CTRL key invert the jump/hover function of the jetpacks (while held). So if you're in the hover mode, you would hold CTRL to temporarily enter jumpjet mode for faster ascent or descent, and if you're in the jumpjet mode, you could use CTRL to shift into hover for more aerial precision and to prevent deaths by fall. I propose this because CTRL is not used for anything else now; in Gravisuite it was used for horizontal boost, but this is unneccessary here because the better tier jetpacks themselves offer a (configurable!) horizontal speed boost.
Problem: The old Gravisuite Advanced Jetpack only showed percentage and it was useful but not always what I wanted to see, because from time to time I wanted to keep track of the exact EU that it was using.
Solution: Once you figure out how to do the onscreen display, in addition to having it print the energy percentage and the jump/hover mode, also print the absolute value (perhaps by config). Also if it ever gets to the point that the jetpacks start acting as the RF refillers for tools such as Arsenal tools, it would be useful to have a flatly displayed value beside the percentage to better keep track of the tools' usage.
Problem: No jetpack sounds to provide a sort of a feedback.
Solution: Add a jetpack sound (configurable to be disabled) and adjust its pitch based on the amount of vertical force that the jetpack is generating at the moment. Though the first three suggestions are a bigger priority for me, personally.
Problem: This isnt actually a complaint, but more to bring attention to it, the recipes themselves are unusual. For example a single jetpack requires a single capacitor and a single thruster, but the thruster also requires a capacitor (of the same tier as the other one). Odd. Additionally I've noticed the config option to force jetpacks to be upgrade-only instead of letting you skip to another tier if you have the materials, but I dont know if it is very useful... because the TE3 capacitors are used in their recipes, which themselves are forcefully upgrade-only, so the option seems a little redundant. Although it can stay if it does not bother you in any way (did i mention that i like configs?).
Solution: Ignore what I just wrote for the time being, the version is only 0.1.4.1 so it's understandable that not everything is in place.
You have my blessing to implement any of these. I'm all for things moving forward. It was sad to see RedPower2 go, but most of its functions were remade and are even better than before. And I was also sad to see IC2 doing what it's doing, especially when TE3 machines are starting to make up for what was lost... Configurable machine I/O sides? Yeah! Battery blocks that dont lose charge when relocated? Oh yes. And now jetpacks that run on RF!?
A sidenote to anyone who didnt click the latest news in the FTB launcher, chances are that unless IC2 either makes itself open to RF, or quickly becomes good enough to justify running on EU and to get modders to stay on EU, it wont be included in the upcoming FTB 1.7 packs. Which is why I think they are so much on the edge lately.

Thanks for the suggestions, ArenBran, I will see what I can do with them. I like well-explained suggestions like this a lot, they also help me think of new ideas while developing
I have quite a few ideas to make the jetpacks more interesting, but they will probably take a while to implement (mostly because college is starting again this week).
Loving this mod! My only complaint hope would be an option to add some armor value to it (perhaps upgradeable?). Doesn't seem unbalanced, considering it takes an invar chestpiece to make. Regardless, thanks for your hard work, and keep it up!
I'd actually like it if the jetpacks worked similarly to the Redstone Arsenal tools - which is to say, integrate with vanilla enchants. Protection would do it's normal thing, but Efficiency would reduce the power consumption. Perhaps Feather Falling could work with it as well (although since it's registered as a chestpiece I'm not sure it could receive that enchant...)
Since upgrading jetpacks isn't cheaper in any way, I think it would be a good idea to be able to craft any jetpack into any higher-tier jetpack. This way I can turn a leadstone pack directly into a resonant one without wasting tons of electrum and invar.
Thanks for this mod. Its awesome

Happened while placing items in a Thermal Expansion workbench.
The capacitors only charge what you are currently holding in your hand. It's a limitation of the capacitor (likely intended). I'm not sure that Simply Jetpacks could get around it without fiddling.
You can take the jetpack off and put it in your hand to recharge it from a capacitor however.
ebrein: I have some ideas for that, but I will have to learn how to render things directly on the screen first.
Seems good now with TE workbench. Thanks.
I have quite a few ideas to make the jetpacks more interesting, but they will probably take a while to implement (mostly because college is starting again this week).
