I saw that this is BoP compantible, but I cannot get them to play nicely. I tried turning off the setting in BoP which allow villages in only certain biomes, but that had no effect. I also tried turning ON all biomes -- same crash.

I think BoP isn't compatible with 1.6.4 MoV. The old methods for forge to adjust villages can interfere between mods. The only thing left to try would be to try forge 916, but I wouldn't count on it to work.
Coincidentally, I was just thinking on something like that earlier. Do you think you can do biome specific buildings? So have docks spawn in oceans, workshops in forests, a mineshaft in Extreme hills etc. Maybe then have villagers with special trades, ie. dock workers would sell boats, buy wood & saplings etc.
Also, would pontoons in ocean villages be possible, so that villagers can leave their houses?
How are the Nether/End villages going?
I am planning to add new buildings (configurable of course) very soon. I'll see if I can implement biome-specific building too, that is a good idea.
I am loving this mod! Now I don't have to stay at 1.6 to use the old mod, now I can use this. One question, how are Villagers can be fancy, I mean, the mountain villages, have so much fancy blocks and all of that.
Since when was minecraft realistic? Assembled floating bones have no brain yet can hold a bow, shoot a bow with one hand, and know what to shoot and why.
Maybe you could make it so that the paths of a village don't go underwater but for example with a small bridge so that you don't have to swim towards the houses.
Otherwise, Great mod man!

Thanks! I would love to make bridges, but, unfortunately, minecraft places roads at the lowest possible place. In 1.8, however, that will be fixed. Also, forge does't allow easily changing the nature of villages, especially the way they are built.
Just a few minutes ago, i found a strange village. It wasn't a regular one, like before the mod, because I've noticed that each village can be told by the color of the lamp wool, (Swamp = green, Snow = light blue, etc.) This one was in the middle of nowhere, literally NOWHERE, and was in deep water. This village had a dark blue lamp color, not black like the original. So I thought, "hmm... maybe this is a swamp village..." but i saw no swamp around at all! i then looked at your photos to see if i could spot the dark blue lamp. i didn't see it in any of them. What Village is this biome in? Was it forgotten or made by accident? I'm confused!

This is an ocean biome! The dark blue wool tells you that. It is fairly new and entirely intentional. I just forgot to put a picture of that when I made the new update.
Nice mod.
I was looking for a mod like this for a long time but I'm having trouble configuring it for a little bit more rare villages (the defaut config spawns too much of them) and I think I'm not doing it right so could you please post a screenshot of the VillageDistance.cfg file showing where I have to put the value?
Thanks. =D

I believe the default value is 16, and the line in the original config looks like this:
I:"Village Distance - 32 is vanilla, 16 is more common, 8 is extremely common, 4 is just insane."=16
You only need to change the number right at the end - the larger the number, the further apart the villages are (larger numbers = more rare). The value I'm currently using is 28, which I've been pretty happy with. I want more than vanilla villages, but not so rare that I have to travel days to find them. The line in my config looks like this:
I:"Village Distance - 32 is vanilla, 16 is more common, 8 is extremely common, 4 is just insane."=28
The only thing I changed is the number 16 at the end to a 28.

Thanks, I'm gonna try as you said. I want just a little more then vanilla too.
Great work! Very nice seeing the original idea expanding and being revised. Now with a proper forge update the continued expansion of the mod will be "easier" to maintain, hopefully.
The simple nature of the mod is what I like best. Having a mod that does one thing, and does it well, is refreshing. I wish you luck in adding new custom buildings, roads, and any secret features you might have in the future.
Thank you for continuing to support and expand the project.
Most importantly, thank you for making this your own mod now. New ideas, new vision.

Yes, that is the right way to do it. Thanks for replying! I've been really busy with school work but it'll clear up soon and I should be able to get some new buildings out then!

I'm glad you like it! It means a lot to me that the original mod creator approves of the new, continued version :D. Thanks a lot! And you are very welcome :). I'm really glad you created this mod in the first place; I used to use the mod all the time, and then once it got discontinued, I was really sad, so I thought I might as well create a forge version.
I really love this mod! It makes it soooo much easier to find villages. I also like the idea that the land is dotted with little hamlets, it adds more realism to the game. Here's a couple of suggestions:
1) the ocean villages would look really good and be "functional" if they had gangways between structures. As it is now the villagers are trapped in their homes. Maybe add in a dock of sorts.
2) it would be great if the ocean villages could be configed to have the spawn rate turned down or off even.
3) I don't know if it's possible, but it would be cool if every so often one of these villages could spawn as a "town", of like 40-50 buildings.

I'm pretty sure the config gets created after you put the mod in the mods folder and then run minecraft at least once. Then it will show up in a folder called MoVillages in your config folder.

You can turn off ocean villages and every other village. Just read the first post and there are instructions near the bottom.
I like the idea of large towns. I'll definitely consider adding it in the future.
I've finished all my other work, and it is time to get working on this mod again! My current plans for the near future are making new buildings to add to villages!
Now, anyone at all who wants to build custom village houses is welcome and encouraged to do so! I'll accept minecraft world files but preferably .schematic files for MCEdit. There's a high chance that submitted buildings will be put into the mod.
If you don't want to build a building but you still want to help, you can give ideas for types of buildings.

Biomes o plenty already has custom villages, and I don't want to create a conflict by trying to change that.

No problem! I'm glad that the technique I used didn't interfere.
