Only the basic features have been added, but expect frequent updates with more settings.
Features:
Villager adults now attack zombies
Villager children attack zombies only once hit
Villagers of different professions and ages have different attack power, armor and maximum health values
Configuration file (villageConfig.txt) can change multiple features (Attack power, health, armor, hunting zombies, responding to attacked friends like Iron Golems do, fighting back once hit) for ALL combinations of age and profession
Planned features:
Villager children flee zombies
Villager children team up when cornered
Priests heal allies during the daytime
Priests heal any nearby Zombie Villagers once said zombie is killed
Iron Golems spawn faster based on number, professions and ages of villagers
Iron Golems gain buffs (grappling hooks, fireproofing, waterproofing) based on villagers in the village
Farmers harvest crops
More trade options (Why do they plant carrots/potatoes if they don't want them?)
Improved village generation
More village biomes, all with custom materials
Villager Settings in menu
Overcrowded, wealthy villages (performed many trades) can build new houses in empty areas
"Home Alone" except with several children who defend their house from zombies
Several versions ago, I wrote a mod called "True Villagers". This is a complete rewrite of that mod, up-to-date and with a configuration file.
Hope you can Forge this mod. It looks like it will clash with my others. One question, if I tear down a small house while building them a bigger one, will they attack me?

The Villagers will only attack zombies, anything that hits them, and anything that hits another villager in the same village. As for forge, I will look into how that works... I learned with mcp, but if it's not too different I will give that a try.

I really hope you're able to make this work with Forge, I love this idea and it would make Minecraft way more fun! (especially some of your other planned ideas for it)
This is a great idea! I love the villagers, but protecting a whole village does get tiresome.
Forgive me, but can you please explain how to install this mod?
Download MCPatcher and run it. Choose the game version 1.7.2 in the dropdown menu, then click the + button. Select the .zip of the mod, it will open a list of files in the mod. Click ok. Uncheck all the other mods that come included with MCPatcher, then click then patch, then close out and run minecraft. It should autoselect the correct profile for you.
I love this idea and hope you can make it work for forge soon. there are two things you are planing to work on that I have been looking forward to with villages.

Both of these are mod ideas I have been waiting for some one to work on but seem to have come to a stand still.

I am not a coder or texture maker. I am just your average minecrafter with my own ideas on how to improve my own minecraft experience and maybe others (if they like them) as well.

Okay, so I really need to update more frequently... however, for the time being, I am thinking of holding off until 1.8 comes out, since 1. it is in the bugfixing stage, and 2. it most likely vastly changes the villager files. Sorry about that.

At this point, are you planning on a 1.7.10 with forge support, or a 1.8.x release?

never take unfair treatment, if someone is treating you badly, and you can not resolve it, leave, you are better off with out someone in your life that abuses you no matter how they try to invalidate your concerns or feelings.
