I am making mods using custom stuff 2. Would I be allowed to post it if it is of good quality in just one thread for all my mods? The only reason I use custom stuff 2 rather than MCP is because of the fact that MCP just seems to hate my computer. I have tried to fix it time and time again, but it doesn't seem to be an issue on my end. I am an experienced coder, I have coded in multiple programming languages so can an exception please be made?
Notice: You are not allowed to release your mods in the mods section of the minecraftforum. The reason for this is that Custom Stuff mods don't contain any java files. This is not my decision but the forums one. If you want to share your mods, you can do that in the Custom Stuff wiki.
If you have any comments about this, or want to ask for special permission, you should ask a forum administrator. The best place to do this is in the Contact Forum Administration forum.
Also, of course, I could try asking you if you did anything wrong. If you haven't already done this, you should download Minecraft Forge "Src" package from http://files.minecraftforge.net/. Ensure you get the 1.7.2 version. 1.7.2 uses a new system called ForgeGradle, and utilizes MCP in a different way than 1.6.4 and previous versions (with the exception of Forge 960-964). Run the gradlew file (or gradlew.bat on Windows) in a command line with the parameter setupDecompWorkspace. Then, if you're using Eclipse, run gradlew again with eclipse. There's a command for IntelliJ IDEA as well, but I can't remember that off the top of my head. For further information... I suggest you look up a ForgeGradle tutorial.

Is there any way to get around the "item sprite indicies" crash? I'd love to install several more mods but Minecraft crashes because of too many sprites. Even if I had to do a lot of coding or something I'd learn just for the sake of heavily modding Minecraft.
Isn't that something only a Modloader user would encounter?

Okay, so I'm having trouble installing Galacticraft. We drag the three downloaded files into the Mods folder, and launch, hit play, and we never get the Mojang screen. No crash report, no new window that appears. We're using a PC, with version 1.7.2, and we have the current Forge version installed. We have other mods working fine - Buildcraft, Millenaire, Railcraft, ATV, ChemLab, Mr. Crayfish's Furniture - but this one has stumped us (myself and my 9 YO son).
I just got the PC version and was interested in mods so I checked here for help.
1st off: The table of contents all pops up saying URL not found.
2nd: When I tried to download forge via the directions on the first page, at the site listed, The program that installed was a random downloader that came loaded with Malware. I'm currently running Malwarebytes to get rid of 16 implications.
One of the items that got bundled with the download, I couldn't even uninstall with the standard Windows Uninstaller. I ended up using Revo Pro to get rid of it.
I'm curious, is any of this information accurate anymore, or did this section get compromised and was never noticed? I won't be clicking ANY links on this site until I can be assured this has all been checked.

Hi, King_Scooter,
I'm sorry to hear you encountered problems, and I really want to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you as well. I have reviewed the post, what I found is that the [goto] tag is broken now. This was used in the TOC (table of contents) for links, but since they no longer work, I've replaced the [goto] tags with standard links instead. This does not only apply to the TOC, it also applies to various section using [goto]'s, e.g. the various Installing mods sections.
As for the Minecraft Forge trouble, the correct website is http://files.minecraftforge.net/ (as listed) and the page should look like the following (extract):
If you're there, then you're at the right place. What I suspect you've done wrong is letting yourself be tricked by download buttons on the AdFly interstitial page. When you click the link to a download on Minecraft Forge's site, there will be a blue bar at the top with the AdFly logo (ad.fly with a bee to the left) and a countdown timer on the right side. What a lot of people do wrong here is click the download buttons below the blue bar. Do not click these; those are malicious ads (unfortunately ), you must wait until the countdown timer at the top is replaced with a yellow "Skip Ad" button. Click that, and your download will start. The downloaded file is a jar file if you choose "Installer" or exe if you choose "Installer-Win".

Well, that does seem to answer how I got the bogus file with all the crap on it. I've downloaded mods before for other games that have something similar, but it doesn't have a "skip ad" pop up. it's always been a different download button that will show up.
My next question is should I use the Installer, or Installer Win? what's the difference? the OP shows just the big red arrow pointing at Installer, and there's no Win version on that screen cap. I assume because it's an older version.
Thanks for the help so far.

The only difference between Installer and Installer-Win is which platforms it can run on. Installer-Win can only run on Windows (as the name implies) whereas Installer can run on any system with Java e.g. Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris. If you're running Windows, it doesn't matter which one you choose, as they both do exactly the same thing. If you're running another system, though, like Mac OS X or Linux, your only option is Installer. This is because these platforms cannot natively run .exe files.
OP doesn't show Installer-Win, as it indeed has an older screen cap.

got it properly downloaded and installed. heh.
I take it there is no actual way to "open" Forge? Just drag and drop the mods into the Mod folder in my .minecraft folder?
also, do all skin packs, texture packs, etc get installed the same way as well?

That's right. Mods are installed simply by placing them in the mods folder in .minecraft. If you're running the game while installing mods, you need to restart the game to get those mods loaded. Texture/resource packs are installed similarly, by just dropping the compressed zip folder containing the textures into the resourcepacks folder of .minecraft. Player skins have to be uploaded on the profile page on Minecraft.net.
As for opening Forge - all you need to do to ensure Forge is running is to check that the profile you've selected in the launcher (bottom left of the Minecraft launcher) uses a Forge version. This also appears in the bottom right corner ("Ready to play [version]"), where the version should contain the word "Forge".

Could we please get a pastebin tutorial on here? I'm an experienced mod user, and have dealt with a lot of major crashes, but been unable to report them, being unable to use, or find a tutorial for pastebin.
Also, maybe in a separate post, a tutorial for github? That's more to do with downloading some mods (some modders DO host their mods on github), but I always run into trouble with ghub, and have never successfully downloaded a mod from it. Probably just me, but I figured I'd ask!
You also might want to make a not that crashes should probably be reported on the relevant thread, not here, that way the mod author gets the information.
I would support a tutorial on how to get log files, and full crash reports, rather then just the simplified version.
Also your FAQ doesn't mention anything about other ids. From minecraft 1.6.4 to 1.7.2 the only id system they depreciated was the item/block ids (the biggest one) Dimensions, biomes, and a lot of other things also use ids (still in 1.7, and 1.8) If a modder is using the predefined forge config (which is generated automatically) the biome, dimenision, and any other ids the mod uses will show up there. - Some people get really confused when they install BOP, Highlands, Twilightforest, and EstraBiomesSL and wonder why they have twilight forest biomes showing up in the overworld. Unlike ids the game won't crash, rather it will just use the biome with the id from the mod that is laoded first.

The reason I'm not posting a tutorial for Pastebin is because using it is actually extremely simple. When you go to http://pastebin.com/, you are greeted with a page showing "New paste", a text box, some settings, and a Submit button. All you really have to do is copy and paste the crash report into the text box and press Submit. You may also want to set Paste exposure to Unlisted, otherwise your paste will appear in a public list of pastes. Then just hit Submit, and you're taken right to a page hosting your crash report. You just copy the link you're at, and give the mod dev, and he'll take care of it for you.
Personally, I've never seen any modder host their mods on GitHub. But if you'd link me one, I'd tell you what to do to download it.

You mean the Developer Console tab, with the full log in it? I can fix that. But I'll also need some more information on the ID conflicts. This is a phenomena I've never actually heard of before, so I'd need a little bit more information and explanation as to why the biomes show up like they do. Also, how this affects other aspects of the game, like dimensions, which you mentioned. If you get back to me with this, I'll make sure to add it to the post.

Hi. I just noticed that there was a major question I have that DID NOT get answered.
"If you have modded minecraft and it receives an official update? will the mods conflict with the update and corrupt the game?
the Little Einsteins hate the Furry Fandom, Pokecombat Academy, and all of you.
If you update your game from, say, 1.6.4 to 1.7.10, you get the problem with cross-version conflicts (http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1293201-mods-faq-and-security-considerations#wrongversion), meaning you have to install updated versions of every single mod you had previously. Mods will not interfere with the process of updating itself, but always take a backup before you try to launch the game on the new version - just in case something goes wrong.
