This is a mod page for all of my mods. So far, I have the Quartz N' Steel mod, for 1.6.4.
Although in real life striking a quartz crystal on a piece of steel is just as effective as flint on steel (for making sparks), there seems to be no plan to implement a quartz and steel striker, possibly because gravel (thus, flint) is more common than nether quartz, so it is cheaper to use flint anyway.
-Minecraft Wiki
Screw that.
This mod adds a new item, quartz and steel, and a new block, overworld quartz ore. Overworld quartz ore is just quartz ore in the overworld. To make it not overpowered, and to encourage nether travel, the overworld quartz is much rarer, as rare as gold. Quartz and steel is basically an upgraded flint and steel, with 4x more durability than normal flint and steel.

So unless you have permission from Mojang, don't redistribute any of my mods as your own. And there's no reason Mojang would let people copy other modders' work, so don't lie about it.
You may use any of my mods in modpacks, or make resource pack patches, or expansions for my mods, or anything as long as you credit me/my modding team as the maker of the mod.
And you legally don't have to tell me, but it would be kind of weird if you didn't, and also if you do tell me then I'll put a link to your page here.
So far these are the modpacks that include my mods:
Looks good, but it would be nice to see more mods and perhaps one or two pictures.
My team and I are working on more mods, next will be the Blood Moon mod, adding a Terraria-like Blood Moon random event. Other mods will be EnderCreeper's Tool Mod, which adds a few more (balanced) tool and armor tiers, and the Spirit Realm, a ghostly realm where you can interact with the spirits of the dead.

When your wolf dies you can bring him back to life? Or not? Well i still like the ideas and the Quarts 'n Steel mod
I don't know about bringing him back to life. That may be in a future update. What we currently have planned for deceased pets is that they will be "familiar spirits" and help you out.

Yeah, it's called EnderCreeper's Tool Mod, it basically adds a bunch of balanced tool and armor tiers and changes existing ones, so there's more than 2 tiers of armor (what's leather? lol) and more than 3 tiers of tools (wait, wood isn't just for pickaxes?). Here's my notes of what I'm going to make:
-Flint tools/weapons with the strength of iron, durability of (vanilla) wood -Obsidian tools/weapons with the strength of stone, durability of 2x diamond -Wooden tools get 2x durability, stone gets 1/2x -Hardened stone tools made of smoothstone, durability of 1.5x (vanilla) stone -Sandstone tools that are equal to (new) stone, as an alternative for lazy desert dwellers -Bedrock tools, with infinite durability and 1.5x the strength of diamond, and able to mine bedrock. Obviously, nobody would ever be able to get it in legit survival, so it's more of a server/mapmaker thing. -Nether quartz tools that are equal to iron, with about 25% more durability -Emerald tools/armor that's just as enchantable as gold, and equally crappy
-New ores: Copper, Tin, Manganese, Arsenic, Iron will be made more rare -All of these new ores will drop the ore block, so you need to smelt them -Copper and tin as rare as (vanilla) iron, but iron made about 1.25x rarer -Manganese as rare as (new) iron -Arsenic as rare as gold, poisons you when mined/smelted/crafted into dust, so bring milk -Copper and tin can be mined by a stone or better pick, manganese and arsenic need a bronze or better pick
-Ores can be crafted into 1 dust of that ore -Dusts can be mixed in a crafting table for 2 alloy dusts -Copper + tin = bronze -Iron + manganese = steel -Copper + arsenic = mithril + u get poisoned lol
-All non-leather (metal or diamond) armor will now get a recipe change -For chestplates/pants, it's a leather tunic/pants surrounded by 8 metal/diamond -For helms and boots, it's a leather cap/shoes surrounded by 4 metal/diamond -It will still add up to 24 for a full set, but now leather will be actually useful -The order of armor, from worst to best, will now be: LEATHER --> COPPER or CHAIN --> BRONZE --> IRON --> STEEL--> MITHRIL --> DIAMOND -Gold/emerald has been omitted for obvious reasons -Although bronze is worse than iron, it'll only be like 1/2 of an armor point worse (so a full set would be 2 chestplate things less than a full set of iron, on the armor bar), still about equal. Someone using full bronze could still have a good chance against someone with full iron in a fight. Same thing with steel and mithril.
-Now, with tools, the stronger something is, doesn't mean it's better, because durability can vary. Here's the order of tool strength: WOOD --> STONE or SANDSTONE or HARDENED STONE or OBSIDIAN --> COPPER ---> BRONZE --> IRON or FLINT or NETHER QUARTZ --> STEEL --> MITHRIL --> DIAMOND --> BEDROCK -Bronze tools will be slightly slower than iron/flint, and do 1 less damage (1/2 a heart), but they're still about equal. Same thing with steel and mithril. -Gold has been omitted for obvious reasons -Iron picks will no longer mine diamond. You need steel or better. -Bronze and better picks can mine all the stuff that (new) iron picks can mine. -Now here's the order of durability: FLINT --> STONE or SANDSTONE --> WOOD --> HARDENED STONE --> COPPER --> BRONZE --> IRON --> NETHER QUARTZ --> STEEL --> MITHRIL --> DIAMOND --> OBSIDIAN --> BEDROCK
Not so Frequently Asked Questions (I'm guessing people will ask these once the mod is released):
Q: Why does crafting an ore make 1 dust? Shouldn't it be 2? And why isn't there some kind of macerator or crusher? A: I made it only make 1, so it isn't used to double your ores, only used for alloys. If it made 2, and you have a mod that adds a macerator or crusher, like IC2, MF:R, or Metallurgy it would make that useless. Likewise, if this had its own macerator or crusher, then it would be pointless to make it make 1 dust. It would have to make 2. Then depending on what other mod you're using, either my macerator or theirs would be useless because the recipes would be harder. It would be simpler for players, using both my mod and whatever the other mod is, to have a choice between getting 1 dust by crafting, or upgrading to a macerator and getting 2 dust.
Q: Wouldn't your solution to question 1 screw the players who use Tinker's Construct (along with your mod and whatever macerator mod)? A: Screw the players who use Tinker's Construct (along with any macerator mod).
Q: Why is mithril an alloy of copper and arsenic? I used to play [[Runescape, World of Warcraft, insert any fantasy game here]] and saw Lord of the Rings (or read the book, if you read books), and I always thought Mithril was like, magic silvery-blue steel. A: Back in the Bronze Age, there were two kinds of bronze people made. The copper-tin bronze that we all know, and a copper-arsenic bronze that was way better, but people stopped making it because arsenic is poisonous, and when you smelted it, deadly smoke would be released and kill you (guess they didn't have milk lol). The old copper-arsenic bronze swords and stuff, since they were so much better, started the legends of mithril and celestial bronze and stuff.

Cool idea for more tools, I think that emerald tools and weapons should be included in a future update- making emerald more valuable. They would be slightly better than diamonds, not that common OP "emruld suf shud b way betr thn diminds" junk. This is because emeralds can be obtained by trading with villagers. The way they would be better is by being as enchantable as gold, but only in that way.

Emerald tools are going to be in the mod. They're much worse than diamond though. They're equal to gold.
Added RedstoneCircutor's new mod, Opped Parchments, to the list of mods made by friends. It adds a few really powerful parchments, which are like magic scrolls used to cast spells such as lightning.
Also, Quartz and Steel will be out for 1.7 very soon, and the recipe will now be shapeless, because Flint and Steel became shapeless in 1.7.
EnderCreeper's Tools is coming very soon too, and so is a Balkon's Weapons expansion mod called EnderCreeper's Weapons (as you can see, I'm not the best when it comes to naming stuff). It will balance a few of the weapons from Balkon's Weapons (battleaxes ignore 100% of armor? really?) as well as adding new ones like scimitars, kukri, ballistas, scythes, and lances.

Added the legal crap, since I just found out about Minecraft EULA. Also, once 1.7 Forge stops being buggy as hell, expect to see an update for Quartz and Steel, as well as EC's Tools and EC's Weapons, and another small mod called Ender Ores, which will add ores to the End (like Nether Ores does for the Nether).

I think you should make it so with quartz and steel you can make your own portals. Any block, same formation as normal portal. The portal blocks (The thingy that appears in the frame) should be dyable and you could make a copy of that portal so the first one leads to the second one.

That would be overpowered, since quartz can be found in the overworld and mined with a wooden pickaxe, people would be able to go to the Nether without even getting diamonds.

More news: Quartz 'N' Steel will be included in the next update of the Treeit modpack (http://www.technicpack.net/modpack/details/treeit.24986), just need to get some config stuff fixed. You guys should check it out, it's probably one of my favorite modpacks ever, and will soon have its own official server.

If this is still being updated, could you tell me If the quartz and steel mod has a config file with the ability to turn off overworld quartz ore? I would prefer to just have the nether variant.
