Hey TMC. I was using your old Cave Control mod v.2 for 1.7.2 for a long time and found it to work really well. I'm on 1.7.10 now though, and trying out your Old Caves mod for the same. I'm finding there are still too many caves for my needs - I like a more "survival adventure" experience, and when you can go through one cave complex and have all you need for everything ever, there's no more adventure left.
I had tuned the old Cave Control mod to make half as many caves and make them somewhat smaller. This meant complexes were less common and they were simpler, with way less windy interconnections. Interestingly, they still went as deep n'such, so that was fine.
I saw your proposed control system and think it's sweet! Sorry to here there's a hangup, but when it comes out, I'll definitely give it a try. But in the meantime, is there any way I can tune the Old Caves mod to do the same as I was doing with Cave Control?
Thanks for any help!
HZ
"Cave Control", if you mean this mod, wasn't made by myself; you want to ask Zeno410 if they can update it.
Also, "Old Caves" does the exact opposite of what you want - it nearly triples the size of cave systems, as they were up to 1.6.4, compared to 1.7.2 and later (here is a large-scale comparison between 1.6.4 (on the left) and 1.7+ on the right; mineshafts, which were also 2.5 times more common prior to 1.7, aren't included for easy comparison).

You're right, it was Zeno's mod I was using. Sorry for the confusion. And no wonder I found the mines to be massively complex and confusing lol. I had looked at the pictures you posted in Post 1 and thought Old Caves *reduced* caves instead of expanding them. My bad, and thanks for the clarification!
Are you going to be able to update the cave generation for 1.8? I thought you said something about that at one point earlier, but I forget whether it was bad or good news. I really would like it if it was for 1.8, alternately, just put all the features of 1.8 into your 1.6.4 mod or something and we'll all be fine!
Haha, I don't know anything about coding so if you do intend to update the cave generation to 1.8(which I do hope you do!) then that's enough for me, I can be patient.
Hi, I may be blind but I didn't see any license information in your main post or the subsequent posts. Maybe it got buried in the middle of the thread. What are your rules for inclusion into modpacks?
I'm using MultiMC5 launcher - and i'm totally lost in how to install this mod. Any advice?
I'm not familiar with that launcher but you install any of these mods directly into the jar, as explained here; it should work the same for any other launcher, the most important step being to rename the jar or the launcher (at least the vanilla launcher) will redownload it, overwriting any changes.
Note also that if you are using Forge it refuses to run if the jar has been modified, unless you add in "-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true -Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true" (without quotes) to the JVM arguments. You also didn't specify which mod you are trying to use; I know for a fact that "no void fog" (1.7.10) is incompatible with Forge but if you have Optifine you can disable it in video settings, I believe in the details section.
Note: the instructions given may only be applicable to Windows; I had somebody have difficulties getting one of my mods to work on a Mac with those instructions (possibly an issue with opening/editing the jar, as installers like Optifine do basically the same thing automatically and work as far as I know); at the end of the page are links to video tutorials (Windows and Mac OSX) which may also help.
Uhm, sorry I'm a bit lost, is it possible to add some of these worldgen mods to a Forge server and client? And more specifically, is it possible to do it without modifying the original jar? Being used to Forge's "drag and drop" method, that old one seems a bit archaic and dirty honestly, lol.

It appears that you tried to download the WIP customized world generation mod I posted, before I found out that it did not work outside of MCP; I've since removed the download link because it will not work and I don't want people trying to download it (especially somebody taking it and posting it to a site like minecraftdl). As for whether I ever will get a working version, that may have to wait until MCP releases a new update, which they haven't since 1.8. Or maybe Mojang will add it themselves but I'm not counting on that (the more people who make threads like this, the better - sooner or later they ought to realize that people want customization of more than just basic world generation; of course, they don't read the forums).
Also, note that I added [ spoiler ] [ /spoiler ] tags (without spaces) around your report.
how do you make this work with the forge profile? I tried renaming the jar files and added the arguments and still the launcher keeps redownloading it. Trying to use the oldanvils mod with 1.8.

The launcher shouldn't be replacing renamed jars, Forge or otherwise; otherwise, this would also happen with your Forge jar - the launcher tries to redownload any files it finds that don't match the ones on Mojang's servers (this is also why I doubt deleting the .minecraft folder and reinstalling actually does anything) and to get around this you rename the file to something that doesn't exist on Mojang's servers - I assume you renamed the "forgeXXX.jar" and the corresponding "forgeXXX.json" - including changing the "id" inside - and the folder they are in to something like "forgeXXX-oldanvilmod".
What happens when the game does launch? Does it just launch vanilla? If so, then that means the launcher is redownloading the vanilla 1.8 jar, which should not be happening.
Otherwise, I have no idea what is going on - I've accidentally forgotten to change the "ID" inside the json before and all that happened was that the game failed to launch because it couldn't find the specified file (you should see an error in the launcher log like "couldn't download XXX but have local copy" if things go well - that is the launcher attempting to redownload the modified but renamed jar file and failing to find it on the server, but it uses the local copy instead so that isn't a problem; this also happens with (unmodified) Forge since it already renamed the files to avoid the same thing, only difference being that the Forge installer does all this stuff for you).
I'd suggest making a copy of the Forge jar then modding the original copy; you can then just delete it and rename the copy back to the original without having to reinstall Forge if you want to remove it later.
Worse case, Forge put in measures to prevent you from modifying the jar at all and simply reverts a modified jar, in which case, well, hopefully they die when the modding API comes out. I know that they already put in measures to make it impossible to edit and compile the Forge-patched source code with the Gradle system (as I used Forge 1.6.2 for a time, directly editing the Forge-patched source so I didn't have to worry about mod conflicts; this is also the last experience that I have had with Forge so I have no idea what does/doesn't work anymore, and won't download it just to test whether they do)
Are any of my posts getting through? I keep trying to post a reply, and the site shows it as having been posted, but next time I refresh it's gone.. Though each time I do, the reply counter in the right hand side of the gray heading bar is one number higher than it was last time..
I'm just trying to ask for help and clarification on installation.. Is this against the rules?
This isn't the first time this has happened, I tried posting a bug report to another mod thread and it kept doing the same thing. How does one actually post a reply to these forums for real?

I think that's the spam filter having some issue with your post; until you've made a certain number of posts it will often delete posts made by new users even if they clearly aren't spam, this is a common issue and you should notify one of the moderators if it happens instead of trying to post again, which may make the filter more aggressive (the "forum discussion and info" forum has threads about this, such as this one; you can PM the moderator by clicking on their name).
Awesome mods, I've been looking for stuff like this. Kind of annoying to install, though. Any chance you'll make it so you can install it using Forge some time in the future?
Any chance you can update your Old Anvil Mechanics mod to work with the current game? It does work for 1.8.1 but not with more recent versions.
This requires MCP to be updated; it is still only on 1.8; I'd be surprised if it even works for 1.8.1 because they change the obfuscation with every update, no matter how minor. For the same reason any Forge mods (most mods) are also only for 1.8 and otherwise mods like Optifine which do update without MCP require a lot of work to be updated, which may be warranted for a mod like Optifine but not a simpler mod.
Some of the other mods, like the cave mods, are simple enough that I don't require MCP and could update them to 1.8.8 or even the 1.9 snapshot, although there really isn't any point in doing that since there haven't been any significant changes, mostly server-side security fixes, and snapshots would require frequent updates.
MCP has also been rather slow in updating lately and after moving to a new site they lost most of their downloads; if you look at the link they don't provide any versions for anything other than 1.6.4, 1.7.10, and 1.8 (they used to have additional versions for 1.7.2, 1.6.2, 1.5.2, etc), so I can't guarantee when/if these mods will be updated after 1.9 is released.
Presumably, if they ever release it the plugin API will eliminate these issues, however, plugins (distinct from mods) are often more limited since they can only change whatever is made accessible by the API, which is why you have both plugins and mods on servers (a comparison can be made with the Customized world settings; you can only change whatever they decided to let you change and otherwise you need either a mod or a custom world creator like World Painter).

That's because you do not use Forge to install these mods; Forge won't even recognize them as such, you have to install them directly into the jar using these instructions (substitute the appropriate version) and in that case Forge is not guaranteed to work properly (the only mod I've ever verified that any of my mods work with is Optifine, which itself is a special case of a jar mod that can be loaded by Forge, and each other, assuming they don't modify the same classes; e.g. old caves and double old caves together won't give you triple cave generation). Also, what is the other mod? It certainly isn't working either if you tried installing it the same way.
I should update the OP to make it more clear that these are not Forge mods (the installation instructions are at the bottom; the link is a bit broken since the Wiki changed it but it still takes you to the mod installation page, which does not talk about Forge mods).
"Cave Control", if you mean this mod, wasn't made by myself; you want to ask Zeno410 if they can update it.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
which one should i install?
how do you make this work with the forge profile?
I know that they already put in measures to make it impossible to edit and compile the Forge-patched source code with the Gradle system (as I used Forge 1.6.2 for a time, directly editing the Forge-patched source so I didn't have to worry about mod conflicts; this is also the last experience that I have had with Forge so I have no idea what does/doesn't work anymore, and won't download it just to test whether they do)

if you try better mineshafts with (chance=0.04) on spectator mode it works ill post screenshots later
What does the "light" version not have?

Hi,
Any chance you can update your Old Anvil Mechanics[/b] mod to work with the current game?
