I have some ideas. My first idea is making nether quartz useful. Make it the iron of the Nether, and make Venomite the gold of the Nether instead. It means you can craft items with it like crystal sword, crystal bucket, crystal minecart, etc. My second idea is adding a block I call 'Fiery Netherrack' that sets everything near it on fire. Make it the greater diamond of the Nether that you can make armor and tools with. It should look like blood-red Netherrack that is always on fire. My third idea is adding a mob I call 'Hell Demon' or 'Nether Demon'. It should have 10 hearts of health, natural Fire Resistance and a Fiery Netherrack Sword (I came up with the name 'Fiery Sword' but that's up to you, Greenshoes) or a normal Netherrack Sword. It should have bull horns and it should look like a player on fire with a bull's head :P. And my last idea is letting Wither Skeletons spawn rarely in the Nether (they should still spawn normally in Nether Fortresses) and letting them occasionally wielding bows .
Plz notice this and if you can, apply it to the mod, no pressure. And plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz make this mod compatible with Minecraft 1.7.2
Ok, 1. Venomite is the iron of the nether, but, greenshoes will probably add more uses to quartz. 2. I think your idea for the fiery netherrack is pretty cool, but I think it should just be a special block instead of an ore. 3. I had a few similar ideas for demons on the nether x wiki forum. Here is a link if you want to see: http://netherx.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:2260#8 4. I gave greenshoes the idea of a withered biome where the ground is made of mycelium, there are special trees called witherwood trees, there are giant Brown mushrooms, there are ruins, there is a chance of finding a large castle which has an almost finished wither in the middle, and also, wither skeletons will spawn around the biome. I think he might actually add this which I think is awesome! I also tried to persuade him to make wither skeleton horses but I'm not sure if he is. Also, the obsidian boats were partly my idea (you can check on the wiki).
I am not entirely sure what you are saying but I think you are talking about a block that turns into a mob if a player is near. If that is the case then I also had a similar idea called a block soul. It would be a netherrack block until the player gets near it, then it would start chasing the player and attacking them. It would drop netherrack and rarely a nether ore.
I was thinking about making some sort of Nether friendly map and compass.
The compass could be crafted with four Venomite around a Necromite or piece of glowstone dust.
The Map could be crafted with cursed paper all around the compass.
I was thinking that the compass would point to the nearest nether portal or Nether spawn; the map could still show Bedrock on top, but maybe highlight certain areas that are important (portals, Fortresses, Dungeons, Blocks not originally form the Nether (player placed).
Thanks,
-JG52_Shinhoto
P.S. I think you may have unwittingly solved the mystery of how Wither Skeletons got their stone swords; lava flowing onto poison creates stone. Well done! Next all you have to do is explain how the Pigmen got their gold!
Nice ideas shinhoto! I had the exact same idea for a portal finder (nether compass), but I also like your idea for the map making it point out special things like dungeons, fortresses, and portals. I think it should also show any mobs in the area, sort of like the mini map mods, except you have to craft it and hold it (or hang it on an item frame). Btw, sometime in the near future, I am going to be making a youtube video about how the nether came to be. It will explain things like why there is lava everywhere, why there are zombie pigmen, why there are fortresses, etc. I am hoping it will be really cool. I will make nether x be a part of it, so it will also explain things like brimspells, soul glass, gluttons, etc.
Nice suggestion for the map; maybe instead of automatically finding mobs for you one could add certain mob drops to it to make it display those mobs. e.g. one could add gold nuggets to the map to make it display Zombie Pigmen, Golden Carrots for Regular Pigmen, Ghast tears for Ghasts, A Ghast egg/ many Ghast tears for a queen Ghast, etc, etc.
I think that the compass would be really handy, especially if you have Nether spawn turned on, but I think they both need cooler names than just Nether Compass and Nether Map. Maybe something like "The Dark Scroll" (for the map) and "Clue" for the compass. (see the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur if you think it is a lame name).
Sounds like a really neat vid you're making, P.M. me the link when done (if its not to much trouble) or if you need any ideas. I've often pondered how things got to the nether.
Thanks! I was thinking the name for the compass should be "the portal finder" (sort of like "the path finder"). I really like your idea about having to add the mob drops to the map to make it show where they are. That is really clever! Btw, some of them would be confusing like gluttons, blazing chargers, and the two spiders. So gluttons would be glutroot, (even though it is a rare drop), blazing chargers would be steak, and one of the spiders would be string and the other a spider eye. I think the map should also show you if there is a new biome near by, (it would display a large icon of a piece of soul sand for the desert, a mushroom for the swamp, a netherrack spike for the caverns, and a wither skull for the withered biome (if he adds it). Also, if greenshoes is reading this, then I have some new ideas. 1. Pomegranate trees: pomegranate trees would spawn around the nether or could be biome specific, depending on another idea. They will be like normal pomegranate trees, but the leaves will be a dark color instead of bright green. When broken, the leaves have a chance of dropping a pomegranate. If you eat a pomegranate, then it will set your spawnpoint to where ever you ate it. (The wood would just be like normal wood). The reason I had this idea is because in the Greek myths, pomegranates were considered the food of the underworld, and if you ate one, then you couldn't leave. 2. The dark forest biome: a biome filled with giant mushrooms, fungal strands, spider webs, poison rivers, vilewood trees, witherwood trees, pomegranate trees, glowsidian trees (trees made with an obsidian trunk and glow stone leaves), and any other type of trees/plants that you might add. in the forest, it is possible to find spider caves. These will be just like normal caves, except that they are filled with spider webs, they have both kinds of nether spider spawners, and they have loot chests. The mobs that spawn in the forest are nether spiders, Inferno spiders, brimspells, and sporeswarmers (small little mobs that are in the player shape, except that they are a tree Brown, there arms, legs, neck, and body are very thin like sticks (except the body is a bit bigger, but still not super big), and they would have mushrooms all over their backs, arms, and legs. They will spawn around trees, and will multiply if you attack them. Their attack is that they shoot little spiky spores at you, which could give you nausea, slowness, blindness, and/or poison. They would be pretty weak, and will drop sticks, mushrooms, and spores, which can be thrown and work exactly like the ones they threw at you). I hope you like these ideas.
P.s. I have not started on the how the nether came to be series yet so it could be a while before the first one comes out. If you have any suggestions, then I would be happy to hear them. I am probably going to wait until the next update to nether x before I start making it. Also, I liked the name "the dark scroll" for the map.
Once again, nice ideas! But I still think that something like "The Portal Finder" is a bit of a bland name; so if you still don't like "Clue" (which was the thread Theseus used to find his way out of the labyrinth) then maybe it could be "The Omphalos" (the stone that marked the center of the Universe in Greek/ Roman Mythology). Instead of The Omphalos being the center of your world it would merely point to the center of your world (your spawn). I like you ideas on the new Biomes. Since we seem to be on a roll here with the Greek mythology I'll stick to it. In the Dark forest biome there could be five different kinds of rivers (one for each that was in the Greek underworld). The River Phlegathon could be represented by a lava river. The River Styx could give Withering, The River Acheron could give Harming 2, The River Lethe could give blindness and The River Cocytus could give weakness and slowness. Perhaps Necromite armor could grant immunity to the effects of all these rivers (minus the phlegathon, that magma armor's job). The necromite armor would be kind of like when heroes were dipped into the styx to grant them invincibility.
Thanks,
-JG52_Shinhoto
P.S.
Maybe instead of icons representing the different biomes on the map different colours could represent it. Like dark gray for the possible Withered Biome, A bright red for the Regular Hell Biome and so on.
And if there is a possibility of there being a Withered Biome then we would need some kind of special mobs other than Wither Skeletons to inhabit it...
Ok. 1. I agree, the nether compass does need a better name but I am not sure what. 2. Even though I am a pretty big fan of the Greek mythology, all of the names and rivers were still pretty confusing to me (and might be to others). I think the Greek mythology could still be pretty helpful here, like having some the creatures. 3. I like your idea for different colors instead of icons. 4. I was thinking there could be wither skeleton horses. There could also be wither wolves. Just some suggestions to throw out.
I'll admit the names of the rivers are pretty hard, but I wasn't saying that they should all spawn and run through the Nether or anything, I was just thinking that maybe some rivers with negative effects that run through the New biomes might be cool. About the phlegathon though, If I remember right it sustained the souls of the damned so maybe it could actuall be a really rare river that could give positive effects like regeneration or maybe drinking from it could refill ones hunger bar.
I like the Wither horse idea, but I think that both the horse and the wolf are a little to inside the box; this mod adds many never before seen mobs that don't appear to be related to anything and I think it would be best to keep it that way with the new biomes. Maybe shades could be added in the wither biome (shades are just greek ghosts). They could look kind of like a really shady blurry steve with particle effects.
I really like your idea of having the shades! The name sounds all mysterious and the texture sounds awesome! What else should they do though? Should they be hostile, peaceful, or passive? What should they drop? And if they are hostile, what should be their attack? Anyway, I still think the wither skeleton horses might be good but I don't think he should add the wither wolves. What do you think about banshees? I looked up wither on the internet and that is one of the things that came up. Also, I think that it might be cool to have a special river and whenever you drink the water from it in a bottle, then you get a random good potion effect (saturation, fire resist, speed, jump boost, absorption, resistance, night vision, or regeneration). I will keep looking up stuff for ideas.
I'm not entirely sure about how the shades should behave but I'm thinking they could be a passive mob until provoked. To make sure they're not just a retextured Zombie Pigman only the provoked shade should attack, and to make them even harder you don't have to attack them to provoke them, you just have to bump into them. I think they should give the player debuffs when they attack them. Like blindness, slowness, or weakness. I think they should drop some sort of fabric pieces that can be crafted into an invisibility cloak. The Banshees sound neat; maybe they could attack the player and wail when the player gets low on health. Or maybe it could wail when it gets low on health and call/spawn in more banshees to help out. not sure about what they should look like but I think they should be around 3 blocks tall. I like the good potion river idea but now that I think about it I think it should either be VERY rare or that it should have a catch: like getting strength and mining fatigue or swiftness and nausea and so on.
I like your ideas for the banishee and the shades. I think the catch is a good idea on the the rivers. I have some more ideas, but I don't have time to list them now. I will come back later.
I think not updating ANY mod, not just this one is a bad Idea, and the Nether X should be able to work on any new version. When 1.8 is officially released, please work on a version compatible with 1.8

I like the idea (had a similar one myself), but it needs a different name. And the face texture should change. It should value demonite (if you don't know what it is then look on the wiki) instead of emeralds.
