How would you all feel about adding some biomes to the Nether? Not dramatically different biomes, but biomes such as a Soul Sand Desert and maybe a Subterranean Swamp (with increased amount of poison lakes and vilewood trees).
I personally am leading towards having the original Nether biome as the main biome, but with rare Soul Sand Deserts scattered around. They could have a Soul Sand equivalent of Sandstone, and have Inferno Spiders spawning in them. What would you think of that?
EDIT: I just had another idea for a biome - lava rivers. Now THAT would be cool.
Im shying away from the idea of a soulsand desert because it seems a bit bland but a dead swamp? That sounds amazing! Id love a swampy nether area but it would have to be done right, although Ive got no doubt you can accomplish it. over all it is an amazing idea, also lave rivers are indeed a good choice.
Thanks for the support! While I agree that Soulsand Deserts might be a bit bland - I've thought of some ideas that (if Soulsand Deserts were to be included) could be implemented in them. There could be patches of enchanted soul sand through out it, as well as lava lakes and the inferno spider, the mob IStoleThePies wanted me to include. There won't be biomes in this (semi-)update, but biomes would be an interesting thing to add later on.
I would have to make sure the Subterranean Swamp worked well, so I don't ruin the fiery underworld idea of the nether. My idea is, to simply have an area with an increased amount of vilewood trees and netherthorns, as well as poison lakes scattering the landscape, and an increased spawn rate of Magma Cubes. If I was to add any of these biomes, I would still make sure that the original Nether biome was the most common, however the Soulsand Desert and the Subterranean Swamps would be interesting finds. And lava rivers? Good luck trying to get across those.
Well greenshoes, if you intended to do the things with the soulsand desert that you mention, it could be VERY interesting, I only imagined it as a long hilly biome covered in the soul sand, however the details you plan on adding will end in a very interesting biome, best of luck!

yes that is true but i hope that you add maybe a soulsand cactus or something or a special mob in it THEN THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!
Also, for cursed Tools, those could be the negative effects, what do you think of them:
1st suggestion:10% chance of making you lose one heart when durability is used
or
2nd suggestion:10% chance of giving you the affect it is supposed to give to the entity you are using it against (venomite poisons you, necromite gives you wither, the fireball-staff-thingy explodes in your face, but isn't destroyed) in other words, it has a 10% chance to backfire on you when it is used (every time it looses durability)
Also could you make the necromite stuffs attack .5 points harder, because necromite is hard to find and the .5 is really anoying me, i don't even know why or how, it just is annoying me.
We'll see.
Also, I added particle effects for the glowstone torch.

Wow this mod is progressing quickly. Seems like so much has been added since the other week when I tried out XD I'll be sure to test it again soon.
As for the Biomes, I would be very supportive of that, as long as you can easily toggle off in the config. the vanilla nether is a bit boring to see over and over, so even some small variants would be cool. Maybe even something like Underground Biomes with using some alternate types of Netherrack (like a dif textured version but all same properties). But a Lava River, Poison Swamp, or even some type of Soulsand Wastes would be cool. Like maybe not all soulsand or trying to imitate a desert but just being a flatish area with heavy soulsand use. Personally I don't want to see too many nether items that copy overworld items (e.g. Soul Sandstone; the glass works but the sandstone just seems odd.
On a side note, do you think you could make the mod, or more so some of its items, have better compatibility with other nether mods? I direct this more so at NetherStuffs, which also adds a Soul Glass, but I know there are other (like Ultimate Nether Mod). Ultimate Nether Mod may be a bit too similar in the goals though, but NetherStuffs seems to compliment your mod nicely. So it would be nice to have an ease option to add computability so they could share recipes for items that require it (e.g. if both mods have dif soul glass items).

I agree with your opinion of Soul Sandstone. I was simply putting ideas out there :). On compatibility, that is something I am planning to include. Also, after this next update, there will be a lull in activity as I prepare for big projects such as biomes and nether dungeons. Feel free to send in concept art for anything - I may or may not use it, but at least it has a chance of being used.

Then I'll be sure to check it out after the next update =P And glad to hear better compatibility is planned. I think ATM NetherStuffs just has it for a cosmetic, but it may later require it for crafting or such again which could be an issue if NetherX also needs a soul glass for crafting. I can easily disable one, but then I miss out on the crafting uses of the other. So yah...
Also, there is one concept I saw in a mod called World Changers that you may want to do something alike. It added a Ghast Hive if I remember right. Since you already got the Ghast Queen, I would certainly look into some sort of Ghast based Dungeon, even if it isn't a hive. Ghast spawners are a must for it =P
I used to have world changers and it does ad a ghast hive, but since that concept is already taken, I think you shouldn't copy it, but the thing about this mod is that, in chests, you can find wither skulls, which would be really usefull to put in chest when greenshoes changes the lootin chests.
Wait, you are against ghast hive but for a volcano? Bit ironic since world changers adds both =P
Anyway, I personally wouldn't say it is an issue to copy the concept of a ghast hive. Mainly because the world changers ghast hive doesn’t have the same resources as Nether X, so it won't be as compatible and useful as one made into the mod. It doesn’t necessarily need to look alike, just be a ghast dungeon with spawners and probably a room with the ghast queen, or at least a summoner for it.
Either way, I more meant to use the concept of a ghast hive like structure with ghast spawners and probably the queen and/or chests than to directly copy and mimic the world changers ghast hive. I guess I kinda mean more like the Wither Catacombs from Gravestones... Speaking of which, a nether based dungeon that naturally spawns the wither as a boss in the final room would be cool to see. Like a nether brick fortress under lava with dif layout than normal.
Uh I mentioned the souls sandstone idea to gany I'm not sure if he's working on it I think he has a struggle with the textures I think by the way netherstuff I MUST check it out for Withers woods
i wish the gluttons were just normal mushroom biome mobs that spawned with the map and never despawned, and that you could breed (they wouldn't be peaceful to you though), good work though.
They won't despawn in the update, and breeding... we'll see.
But putting them in mushroom islands... now that is an interesting idea!
Okay, attention everyone: This is your LAST chance to get a cape. The first person to edit/add 25 more things (at least) on the wiki will receive a cape. After this, it will be almost impossible to get a cape - so if you want one....

- improved Gluttons (Gluttons now actually bite and make noises as they digest your food)
- new Brimspell sounds (made by me!)

I do like the idea of a flaming cactus, something that resembles the vanilla cactus but orange and maybe with some particle effects

The Quartz Sword idea is also very interesting....
