Hello Minecraft Forum! DemoXin here, coming to you with my very first post which is about my very first mod!Today, I introduce to you... FortuneOres! Read on as I happily tell you a bit about my first foray into the Minecraft modding world.
FortuneOres is a beautifully simple mod. It aims to address a serious oversight in vanilla Minecraft mechanics. Iron and Gold Ore blocks can now make use of Silk Touch and Fortune enchantments, without the possibility of duping.
Much like Diamond, Coal, and Emerald Ore blocks, Iron and Gold Ores now drop items, known as Iron Chunk and Gold Chunk respectively. These new items drop individually when the ore blocks are broken with the appropriate pick, but have a chance to drop additional chunks when a Fortune pickaxe is used. Iron and Gold Ore blocks can also be Silk Touch harvested to acquire the blocks, as with all other ore.
Iron Chunk and Gold Chunk each smelt like their original ore block counterparts, with one Chunk yielding one Ingot. No complicated crafting recipes or new mechanics involved.

FortuneOres requires Minecraft Forge.
FortuneOres has a very simple mod profile page on my site that you're welcome to pass along.
FortuneOres is also ready to download! Install it to your mods folder and you're good to go. No new WorldGen is needed, as FortuneOres works on the vanilla blocks themselves. It's backwards compatible!
There is none! Everyone is welcome to use my mod in whatever way they see fit. Modpacks, learning, whatever. I'm happy to give back. My mod is hosted on my webspace, and both the Adfly and Direct links go to the same place, feel free to give the Adf.ly one a click if you're feeling helpful! Thanks for checking this out, and your feedback is much appreciated!
I love the clean-ness of this mod. The source code looks nice, and excellent use of the blocksList array. However, I do have one suggestion. Since both items are static in gameplay, only using one item ID would be more desirable.
Overriding the damageDropped integer in the Block class should allow your ores to drop a metadata item, and reference for metadata items is everywhere. I simply wanted to suggest this because I know people like mods when they consume the least amount of IDs as possible, but overall, I really love the mod!
Thanks a lot, both of you, for taking the time to look this over. I really appreciate the suggestion as well. I've actually learned quite a bit about metadata since I built this, so it wouldn't be hard at all to do, I just hadn't though of it.
Also, as for metadata based blocks, I'm about to be posting another mod that makes full use of them. Be sure to keep an hour out over the next couple of hours.
I'm looking into how to get this set-up in a compatible way. Thaumcraft is not the only mod that is put out by this change. I never imagined that I'd actually see any level of usage off this, but I'm looking into a solution as I type.
Errr, you need to add Thaumcraft 4 compatability. The Pickaxe of the Core no longer drops the native clusters. Also, you added a new Iron and Gold ore block.I guess it's the silk touch one...
This is wontfixnot bug, Pickaxe of the Core looks on item that block drops. So when you mine something that drops iron ore, you have chance to get native cluster. Iron Ore from this mod don't drop it self. If you get silk touch (is that possible?) on pickaxe of the core, then maybe...
Also some spoilers from author for future update:
Ores gonna drop experience when mined, like all other "fortune" ores do.
Something with IC2 compatibility...
Optimization. Use 1 class for ores, and 1 for chunks. (Maybe?)
Major update deployed for FortuneOres! Added IC2 support, as well as made the Silk Touched version of blocks smeltable. I've also removed a couple of config options, so you'll no longer need to configure block IDs, only item IDs. I've also tested some mod compatibility, which is now listed in the main post.
Further feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks once again for checking my mods out, guys!
I found a bit of a bug with the newer (experimental) versions of IC2. You have it set to give dust from the macerator, it should be Crushed ___ Ore.
[1 crushed Iron ore] can be washed into [1 Purified Crushed Iron Ore + 2 tiny piles of iron dust] the [Purified Crushed Ore] can then be put through the thermal centrifuge to yield [1 Iron dust and 1 tiny pile of gold dust]. So 1 iron ore would become 2 iron dust, 4 tiny piles of iron dust and 2 tiny piles of gold dust.... With your mod as it is I miss out on 6 tiny piles of dust.
With IC2 version 280+ the crushed and purified Ores have been added to the OreDict.
A side from that this is a good mod. Could we have a option to change how many chunks drop with a normal pick? I have a shortage of iron... plenty copper and tin, tempted to use IC2 recipe for turn them into tiny piles of iron...
Alright, got another update out for you guys, including the requested feature above:
IC2 Macerators now properly yield Crushed Iron/Gold Ore when Iron/Gold Chunks are macerated.
The base number of chunks dropped from ores is now configurable. Default is one (1), and Fortune continues to increase the maximum number of drops by 1 per level. A maximum of ten (10) chunks at one time from ore, regardless of pick.
My mod should not be causing any of these issues for you.
IDs 14 and 15 are mismatched, which is correct, but that should only happen the first time you load the mod, or the first time you load a world without it.
As for the other issues, I'm not interacting with any components outside of the 2 blocks that I already addressed. These sound like rendering issues, of which my mod does none.
Any chance of adding a config option to enable support of IC2/BC/UE ores to drop chunks?
Amazing mod otherwise! I love the concept and simplicity of this.

Great mod.
