Its not so much the addressing system that wont be compatable but the size of the gates also meaning all current generated or built stargates will have ID mismatches and turn back to blocks.
We cannot change the addressing system and size of the stargates and keep GC Compatibility sorry but its best we do this now while this version of the mod is still in early development than further down the line when its used by a lot of worlds and server and risk breaking everything then.

Uh, yes, I know it's for galaxies, just figuring we could use it for dimensions because, well, GALAXIES don't really exist in Minecraft (yet?)
On a side note, after connecting a stargate to a computer with wired modems, activating both modems then attempting to call a stargate with "stargate-0 = peripheral.wrap("stargate_0")" as listed in the thread, an "attempt to index nil" error was returned.

I have no ETA for you yet. I've only just finished converting the stargates to multiblock, and rewriting the networking handler. This is practically gutting the mod, inside out, so I can actually give no estimations as to how fast it will take. I do also still have some limited real-world commitments I have to look after, but those won't be around for long.
No. The 9-chevron system only represents a 'name' for an address location. The address of a gate no longer actually represents a dimension ID, x:y:z coordinate; it's just a reference to an existing item. This way, when breaking gate bases, they can actually retain their address and be moved. Perhaps, even, in the future, we might allow the changing of the addresses (only if you're the owner). This might allow crazy addresses like 'OMGWTFBBQ' and 'ILIKECATS' - so long as they're 9 characters long.

As is stated in the original post, the texture for the DHD IS temporary, I'm currently waiting to get the texture from the Delta guys.
Yup custom addressing and per dimension point-of-origin would be great but problematic when you want more dimensions than symbols (that's why we need the extra 2 symbols to extend the range first one shouldextend to -values anotherone to +values or just, write more adv code to split it in half for +and-,
so XXXZZZD(DD) coords and dims)
(on a side note if the auto addressing will be used instead - make it one address per 4/9 or more chunks)
Also i have an idea - lock down - if you have another gate with the same address the one closer to map center will work, (in in same spot the one lower will work).

This is just an idea I had for the gate address system im not sure if im explaining it very well but I hope it makes sense
If for example the max distance in any direction from the spawn point you could have a gate was 200,000 blocks you could have a 100,000 area be network ( A ) where gates would generate randomly. then a 100,000 block area as the void with another 100,000 block void followed by a 100,000 block area as network ( B )
So for this example anywhere from the spawn point to 200,000 blocks out any gate you place would automatically go to network ( A ) unless you used an 8th symbol to connect to network ( B ) (Which would require extra power) and anything after 200,000 goes to network ( B ) unless you used an 8th symbol to define a different network
so 7 would be chunk in network 8th would be network perhaps the 9th could be used for dimension or the other way around which would mean
7 symbol = chunk in network.
8 symbol = chunk plus network
9 symbol = chunk plus network plus dimension
These are just examples with random numbers I have no idea if this was implemented what those numbers could or should be.
It would be cool to see gates randomly generated in caves, on hills, under oceans, in lava, on fields etc with something like a minimum 10,000 block gap between them for (again for example) 100,000 block area around spawn then a big gap and another system if you go far enough out
Oh also I have no idea if its possible but if it could be done
Once a gate is made and is linked it should be impossible to destroy (perhaps a tool needed to un-link) any damage the gate takes should be moved to increase the gates charged state (making it possible though very boring to power the gate by punching it for ages)
the gate would then only explode if its charge exceeded 100% of its capacity. with maybe 10% capacity needed to make and maintain a connection in network 50% to another network and 70% inter dimensional
again these are just ideas I had to write down hope they make sense outside of my head

The gates in the tv show convert energy from almost every type into a charge that can be used to dial or maintain a connection that energy can also be split between connected gates
including gravitational (black holes and singularity's) explosives used to overload gates, electrical, energy weapons, radiation are the ones that I remember off the top of my head
When a gate exploded in the tv show it was due to that charge overloading in one form or another, although there were a few cases of disintegration with no explosion

It also didnt help that the planet was in the process of exploding due to an attack while they dialed

Right click the gate to get the address. The only generated gates in the game are under pyramids, which are random, so will have random addresses.
