I discovered this mod about a year ago, and pretty much "fell in love with" its style and simplicity The Antique Atlas satisfies my chartographing needs without removing the challenge of navigating through cave systems or open air mazes, and without constantly taking up a part of my screen. The fact that the atlas has to be crafted and opened to use maintains the sense of immersion that most mini maps tend to remove with their crisp satelite photos, GPS and holographic waypoint beacons.
Someone asked for more waypoint markers, and I second that. My suggestions are adding a big tree, a sailship, a fish, a treasure chest, a cave entrance, a star and an open eye (bear traps or fishing rods could also be added, but don't strike me as that necessary).
Also, If you would add textures for the tainted land and magic forest from Thaumcraft 4 & 5 that would be amazing! The tainted land texture could look like a desert with tentacles sprouting from the ground in stead of cacti, and the magic forest texture could have larger trees than normal forests and some giant mushrooms in between.
I like to build Thaumcraft themed bases and structures from time to time. Templates can be found here:
AlphaeusXVIII's creations - the templates require the Ruins Mod to work (the screenshots obviously don't) and the README!.txt file is there for a reason. Enjoy now with templates for 1.8.8!
I've just experienced the same map data deleting glitch after entering/returning from the Nether. I loaded a backup save, made another atlas to bring with me this time, but the map data still vanished (for both atlases) :/
If nothing else, the map data is stored in the folder .minecraft/saves/"New_World"/data and the files are named aaMarkers_0.dat and aAtlas_0.dat. I guess the files could have different numbers depending on how many unique atlases you've made, though I usually only have one which I make copies of.
What I did to get my old map data back was merely replacing the map data files with the ones from a recent backup, though entering or leaving the Nether again while bringing my atlas will do the same again (I tried a couple of times)... Maybe it can only store data for one dimension?
So for now, I will only use my atlas in the dimension I spend the most time.

Hey AlphaeusXVIII, thank you for your kind words, and woah, that sounds like a serious issue. Could you please test if it happens every time in a fresh world? Thanks.
I tested it again today with a fresh install of Minecraft 1.8, antiqueatlas-4.2.7-1.8.jar. The current recommended versions of Forge and Optifine were the only other mods.
The bug was still there, so I tested it some more. Every time I leave the dimension I'm in (the Nether, the End or the Overworld), all atlases reset (even when i didn't bring an atlas with me!). However, saving the game and reloading it restores my map data for that dimension, but whenever I leave the dimension it happens all over again, and going back again doesn't help. Saving and loading the game again still works though.
My best guess is that the atlases somehow lose the connection with their respective data files whenever the player enters another dimension, but they still manage to write the new data correctly when saving the game (so that it is updated when I load the game again).
If you also can reproduce this bug, Hunternif, then it should be possible to fix too

Hey, maybe when you fix these issues, also work on a clientside smp version of this mod. Essentially, it acts the same, but the difference is that you have to press a hotkey to bring up the atlas, and can use it in multiplayer. it would be a lot cooler than most map mods we have nowadays, and I love the antique adventurer feel of this mod.

There is a mod, Magic Yarn, that does this well.
Single player: uses the item
Server and Client: uses the item
Client but not server: uses a hotkey
Server only: not required on client

Greets!
Thanks for the mod. He is totally awesome!
And i have suggest: can you made that some of markers will only be available for admins?
For custom advanture map with markers, that users can use, and can see those markers, and server config for markers(can be deleted by users or not)
And can you made so when combining maps crafted map was with new data id.
Becouse their will be one progress for different users(Open world, markers etc.).
P.S. Also have problem with near placed markers. One is hides another after restart.

Feature request: Compass (vanilla replace?) with two needles. One works like vanilla (shows direction to North), second one shows direction to point, choosen in atlas ("azimuth").
Sorry me my bad english, i'm russian
Thank you so much for this wonderful mod. I added it to my wilderness survival mod pack called Lost and Alone - Adventures of Wilderness Survival few weeks ago, and just this past weekend I tested it out for myself and I was truly amazed. It works perfectly with a heavy realism feel the pack is going for. I didn't want any of those other minimap mods because I felt those were not realistic enough. Again thank you so much.
Requests for additional worldgen structure support:
~Chromaticraft Ocean Monuments
~Mystcraft Library
~Roguelike Dungeons
~And of course more mod-specific villager houses, such as Witchery's Apothecary and Library, plus Witchery's walled village type, RFTools house, Tinkers Construct house, Thaumcraft tower...
Also a config to prevent Nether Portal icons from reappearing EVERY TIME the portal is used, and allowing village icons to be removed, so I can place my own icon there instead.

Beta_galactosidase, you're using a version of the mod for 1.7.2 while playing 1.7.10. Please make sure you download the appropriate version.
I made Moses Mod, Dota 2 Items Mod, Rings of Power and Antique Atlas.
For the item and GUI I have 2 ideas
1) have some sort of config that allows you to change it.
or the second more complicated idea
2) Have some sort of slot within the inventory so that when you place it in there it becomes a GUI
Update! v4.2.9
1.7.10 Download: http://adf.ly/1TZtp4
1.8 Download: http://adf.ly/1TZtgd
or on Curse Forge - be sure to pick the appropriate download!

AlphaeusXVIII, I can reproduce your issue, so I'll definitely fix it! https://github.com/Hunternif/AntiqueAtlas/issues/67
Sorry I forgot about it before I made the last update, it doesn't yet include a fix for it.
I made Moses Mod, Dota 2 Items Mod, Rings of Power and Antique Atlas.
Alright, now it should be fixed.

When will this mod be updated for 1.8.9? I tried the 1.8 version, but it didn't want to work. I'm making a modpack, and this is my favorite map mod.
Thanks!
