CDHUD is based on the style of TukMC with mods like Ars Magica and Damage Indicators in mind. Having the basic HUD be more compact allows indicators from such mods to roam freely at the top of the screen.
As you can see in this image, there is a ton of information compacted into a tiny area. (The bright colors are for demonstation purposes only)

1. Download and run the Minecraft Forge Installer. The version of Forge that I'm using is given by the download link. Anything newer will usually work, and sometimes older versions will work as well.
2. Check that the forge install worked by running the client (There will be a new profile labeled "Forge" in the launcher, use that). Forge information should be on the title screen. After confirmation, close Minecraft.
3. Put CompactDisplayHUD[x.x.x].zip into your "mods" folder. (%appdata%\.minecraft\mods)
4. Confirm that Compact Display HUD has installed correctly by starting the "Forge" profile and clicking the "Mods" button on the title screen. Compact Display HUD should appear on the list. If you're having issues, rinse and repeat from step 1.
If you want to do anything with this mod besides playing it, you should have a look at what the license says.
Private Packs: By private packs, I mean private packs. This section is directed towards singular people making packs and whitelisted servers with less than 25 people on the whitelist. Go ahead, do whatever you want, just make sure that I (maxpowa) am credited as the owner and creator of the mod (Compact Display HUD).
Public Packs: This includes whitelisted servers with more than 25 people and any server that is not whitelisted. You must follow the private pack policy, clearly provide a link back to here (preferably http://goo.gl/D1H5hS) AND message me. I say this for two reasons; one - I don't want to have to deal with obsolete packs being created as a new version is coming out; two - I'd like to know that my mod is not contained in any pack which violates other mod licenses.

Text independent of GUI scale would ruin the design of the HUD in my opinion. I tried larger scales and the size it's at is what works the best. Color is possible for sure though.

3. use icons instead of bars. (natural user interface). afterall, hud is some kind of interface.
4. add more features like your other masterpiece, tukmc.
