Thank you for update 1.8.9_0.31.0! It works great! The only thing is something is different in 1.8.9 (also in 1.8.8 and 1.8) for chopping big oak trees. Only central column is removed with veinminer. All branches are still there. I suspect it may be not veinminer, it may be forge 1.8.9 which is still in beta. Just in case it is veinminer, can you check why branches are not removed? Block IDs seem all be the same (17:0). Thanks.
As a temporary solution, I can add this line to config:
S:equalBlocks=minecraft:log/0=minecraft:log/4=minecraft:log/8
It works, but I have to repeat this for every type of wood, every mod. Right now, I cannot figure out what to use for Thaumcraft's greatwood and silverwood, I tried this, but it doesn't work.

In 1.7.10, all these worked without extra config options. I wonder why.
It turns out, Thaumcraft changed block name from "Thaumcraft:blockMagicalLog" to "thaumcraft:log", plus log orientation metadata from 0/4/8 to 0/1/2 and from 1/5/9 to 3/4/5, so the following line in config works:
S:equalBlocks=thaumcraft:log/0=thaumcraft:log/1=thaumcraft:log/2,thaumcraft:log/3=thaumcraft:log/4=thaumcraft:log/5
But for giant mushrooms I need to list all 10 variations of orientation metadata as follows:
S:equalBlocks=minecraft:red_mushroom_block/0=minecraft:red_mushroom_block/1=minecraft:red_mushroom_block/2=minecraft:red_mushroom_block/3=minecraft:red_mushroom_block/4
etc, etc. I wish it could be coded in the mod itself as it was in 1.7.10.
Excuse me, But is there a way to remove the block whitelist all together? maybe turn it into a blacklist?

Look at the bottom of the configs. It doesnt turn it into a blacklist, but there is an override.

I have a strange case where veinminer is not picking up block from mod SEM (http://www.curse.com/mc-mods/minecraft/240807-steam-engines-mod). It is Salt Ore and was autodetected by config and included under pickaxe/blocklist section in config (sem:erze/3). All other ores from the same mod (Copper, Tin, Zinc) are fine, but Salt is not working. I suspect it is not VeinMiner, but the mod itself, probably how it handles breaking the block. I have seen cases (hard ores for example) where block id is changing when broken. I suspect something like this may be happening here. I was wondering if you may have any suggestions on how to handle this strange case. Thank you.

Sorry if this has already been asked, just wondering if this works with any of the emerald ad obsidian tool mods? I'm using Royalmods' emerald & obsidianmod V1.3.1 for minecraft 1.8, and I can't even being to work out how to load the emerald and obsidian tools onto the tool list. Any help would be a lifesaver, I have two young 'uns very keen to try this.
My big problem is one of labels. Simply put I have no idea how Forge reads the mod that provides these tools, nor their exact designation. If anyone can tell me what they are called, or where to find this information so I can find out for myself, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thankfully, the issue has somehow sorted itself. I don't know how exactly, but my game is now showing the exact name and ID of each item when highlighted. Maybe it is an artifact of vein miner finally kicking in with other items, I really don't know. Either way it gave me the information I needed to add the items to the tool list, and have been reaping the rewards since. Thanks for a great mod.
How do I add multiple blockids with sameid but different meta? Is wildcard accepted? Would adding tools be the same too?
Example:
/veinminer blocklist pickaxe add 153:*

My apologies if this has already been covered, but I haven't the time to go through the whole thread looking for this particular issue.
I've been playing a game on 1.7.10, using veinminer along with orespawn, tinker's construct, and a few other mobs. I've been in the same game for a couple of days now, and at the beginning didn't have an problems with mining anything in the block list with anything in the relevant tool list. Even worked with the ultimate pickaxe mining obsidian. Now, for no discernable reason, I cannot for the life of me veinmine any obsidian with any tool, while all other blocks are still working fine.
I have tried deleting and re-adding both tool and block, removing mods, reinstalling mods, updated to the latest version of veinminer for 1.7.10, nothing has made any difference. The thing that boggles my mind is the fact that is was and has been working, but now isn't. Any advice would be much appreciated.
One final edit...
I was getting desperate so I went back and tried the original emerald pickaxe I had at the beginning of the game. Turns out that is working on obsidian, and have remembered that I didn't have the ultimate pickaxe until later in the game. Still would like to be able to use the ultimate pickaxe, while is still working on other ores.
Oh, and please disregard the earlier post about adding the tools from the emerald and obsidian mod, mostly because I am not using that mod any more. I did learn from the experience however, though it hasn't helped me understand what is going on here.

I have Veinminer 0.31.5 in MC 1.9. It works but I have noticed whenever I veinmine iron all the iron disappears. It is not in my inventory.
I would love to see a 'tunneling' feature added in.. maybe even a 'leveling' feature to clear land above the level you're standing on. That would be awesome.

Probably waay too late to ask a question on here but, im using the latest version of FTB Direwolf20 modpack on curse, and i cant for the love of me add oak wood planks to the blocklist for the axes. ive tried the add command during play, ive tried going into the config file for the mod itself and ading it, and ive tried an anciet ritual for self-destruction and ive had no luck with either solution. the version for VM is compatible for the modpack. Any new ideas i could try?
