So have you tested if this happens without the Camping mod?
I have, but he has moved on to 1.8.9 and no longer updating for 1.7.10 and this only happened after you updated to 009 so please do not try to push this off on that mod.
I hate to ask, but would it be possible to make ars magica 1 work for 1.7.10? I really enjoyed finding random spells in above ground dungeons, crafting with runes, and the way you leveled using minecraft exp. If you're not willing to make ars magica 1 work for 1.7.10, then could you explain to me how to do it?
Biome's O Plenty, Botania, Witchery, PotionIDHelper. A couple more I can't remember off the top of my head, though all of them allow me to shut it off. That was the first thing I tested though, the conflict seems to be something with the way the camping mod does it's potion effect at ID0 (which can not be changed) and yes, I have mentioned to him but no response. I have removed and tried different combinations of mods, and that ID0 is the issue for some reason as far as all the testing I do, but odd thing is, was never and issue until this last update for ars magica2.
PotionIDHelper is supposed to be removed after fixing IDs because it can break stuff. Not that it should be needed in the first place, though, with NEI's ID dumps.

If this is updated, can I get any USEFUL info about the flippin flickers?
I am playing Simply Magic (FTB) which as the title says is focused around magical mods. AM2 is one of those. And since Botania got nerfed big time, I thought I will use AM2 to build my tree farm. Oh boy, was I wrong!
The Flicker focus: Felled Oak works fine. I put it in the habitat, connect a habitat with a Lightning flicker (OP reduced from 180 to 90) and everything is as it should be. Trees are being cut down, broom is cleaning, simply the best. But I am sure you can see the problem - deforestation. So as the Arcane Compendium suggests, I connect another habitat with a Natural flicker. The animation says it's connected correctly (pointing towards felled oak) however no matter what side I connect it to the main habitat or what side I place chest with saplings, it just won't work. Trees get cut down but no new sapling is planted. Do I really need to use Packed Earth or whatever it is?
The problem at the question is: is this a bug or is there any specific super secret setup for a working automated tree farm?
I'm sorry, but in what way was Botania "nerfed"?
What does the compendium say about the specific Flicker types and such? When in doubt, RTFM.

Passive flowers do nothing (except decaying), mana comsumption is much higher then any passive generating flowers can produce and active flowers are too expensive to maintain or changed so they can no longer be automated easily.
And about your RTFM suggestion, have you tried it? If you are so smart, why did you just give me a tip how to make it work? Anyway if I remember correctly (can't open the game right now in order to quote what is says), the Compendium says that felled oak cuts down trees and I can connect 2 augments - a lightning flicker for speed (working) and natural flicker to re-plant saplings from an adjacent chest. If I quote http://am2.wikia.com/
As you can see, there is no info where exactly the chest is supposed to be (beside nature of felled oak?) or how the setup should look like, but that does not matter since it did not work wherever the chest was placed (next to either of them, above, under, double chest, iron chest). I tried it without the lightning upgrade and also changed position of the natural habitat connected to the felled oak (above, under, north, south, east, west) and it still did not work.
My suggestion to read the book was because maybe something changed in the update, and when a mod has any sort of documentation, it's always best to check that even if you think you know how something works. Thaumcraft and Botania both change their books quite frequently, so re-reading is suggested.
If you've tried all configurations, then submit an issue to the Github tracker. Include as much information as you can.
Passive flowers purposely only create a small amount, they are only meant to get you enough to make an active generating flower. And what exactly are you using mana for, that you can't keep up with it? I usually have less than 5 Endoflames, maybe a Munchdew or two, and it's enough for a full set of armor, tools, and manasteel wings (Icarus mod). Unless you're trying to have an Orechid or Loonium on constantly, which is extremely ambitious.
Also, every flower is made with automation in mind (except maybe Thermalily, but that's it's own issue). If you're trying to use an old video or something with schematics for automation, don't rely on it. Stuff changes. Work out your own type of automation that works best.
Can someone inform me on the correct spell grammar/order or whatever to get a spell that does BOTH Self Heal and Self Regen at the same time?
I can get one or the other working but not both. I've searched several forums and places with people purporting to have answers but none have worked. I either get the regen effect or the heal effect but not both.
I think a simple self in the first brown box for shape... then heal and regen in the effects should work but alas it doesn't. Perhaps I'm doing something very wrong.
Thanks in advance.
Heal and Regen are specifically coded to never work in the same spell.
PotionIDHelper is supposed to be removed after fixing IDs because it can break stuff. Not that it should be needed in the first place, though, with NEI's ID dumps.
It is what I use to extend the potion array reliably to account for the multitude of potion effects in my pack (close to 200 different ones), adjusting the id's was never the issue, just making sure I had enough available ID's (main reason it was created). The other issue it solved was making sure the ID array was both client and server as that was an issue as well, and while that particular problem was fixed as mods updated, it was easier to keep it in. But It was not the issue either (ran tests with it removed as well). To recap, I have tested removing every mod that affects the potion array and it came down to this mod after the update causing this issue (the camping mod does not change the array, just uses ID0 for it's effect)
You know what? Nevermind. This mod has no balance, the maker couldn't care less about the fans or their suggestions, it's gotten progressively worse and grindier with each update, the level gen is disgusting, and the spell system is repetitive and underpowered with no replay value. Shove it. I'd rather play with no mods than this one.
You did sort of snap on here. As to why things are different now, a lot of mechanics have changed over time. Porting the earlier ars magica mods to 1.7.10 would be a huge time-consuming thing, and... well, Mithion is stepping away from minecraft modding. Right now it's on github and you could probably do a sidebuild of your ideas if you asked permission.
I liked the mechanics introduced in the past few variations. It felt more like discovery and practice than just lucking into finding magic scrolls that did a specific thing.
You know, often my internet arguments can be summed up as "forgetting people don't know what I've been looking at, reading, or doing as of late".
I wasn't actually talking about him not wanting to port ar 1 to 1.7.10. That's understandable because java is janky, minecraft is coded weird, and porting is a nightmare.
I actually meant the way that as you scroll through this thread, anytime mithion shows up, it's usually to say "no, your idea sucks and i don't care." "no i won't put a config file for this easily fixable thing", "no i won't mention this important part of the mod on the modpage", or just "no" in general.
My grief with the mod itself has mainly been that the gameplay consists of "use the incredibly weak, high cost spells over and over and over to grind your way up xp by xp. Then fight an incredibly unbalanced and op boss battle. Grind more, this time by making a spell that you have to look up because you want to get more than one experience point per cast."
So on and so forth. I honestly don't know where I'm going with this. Point is, yeah, you're correct. I snapped. I went from gently twiddling my thumbs waiting for the stone to speak to just upending the table and looking for replacements.

Dude, you shouldnt be looking up ways to do things with this mod, instead you should find ways to do them by yourself....... And Mith has helpers working on the mod, and he generally gives good advice... Quit grouching please!
Well, I dunno about all that. The boss battles are all about figuring out what they do and fighting them the correct way.
The spell experience is based on cost and burnout, unless I'm totally mistaken. And yes, it takes a long time. Hoooowever, you can also fight bosses and find skill orbs other ways. I strongly recommend Chocolatequest's dungeons and adding a very rare chance for skill orbs to the rare chests. You still have to fight your way through and there's no guarantee, but it's fun.
There's some bugs with XP, so that's a shame. Wizard's autumn apparently gives more than it should? As for Mith? I think he's always had a particular view for how the mod should go.
So... yeah, it takes a long time, but that's always been the point. By the end you can be way overpowered, but it takes a LONG time. It's a very complex mod and I wish it did things like explain the modifiers a bit better. Y'know, 'Damage increases damage by 20% and mana usage by 2x' or something. Because it IS possible to make worthless spells. Cheating to test spells is one way to do it, but other than that you can actually just take the spells apart in the deconstructor if they don't work. I ended up writing notes.
I was implying that you would reach stagnation in terms of exp unless you're comfortable with slowly grinding the day away in order to get a single level. Unless you looked up spells that were specifically for exp.
As a ars magica player from even the versions before the '2' was tacked on... I honestly can't help but see where eldritchsyntax is coming from with his previous comments.
The fact I personally can't find fault in most of them from my neutral perspective is kinda disappointing me D:
Sure could of been worded better without the negativity but I just can't find many flaws
After I uninstall Ars Magica my Minecraft will launch and work properly but when I add Ars Magica back in I get this crash:

I tried summoning a life guardian (checking the bosses to see if the lighting/winter guardian stopped crashing my game in this version, this was the first one I checked.) and crashed. How do I fix this?

Try changing the healing effect in the Ars Magica II config file to the same ID as the vanilla Healing potion ID.
Or Regeneration... I think that makes more sense in this case.

PotionIDHelper is supposed to be removed after fixing IDs because it can break stuff. Not that it should be needed in the first place, though, with NEI's ID dumps.

I'm sorry, but in what way was Botania "nerfed"?
What does the compendium say about the specific Flicker types and such? When in doubt, RTFM.

Heal and Regen are specifically coded to never work in the same spell.

What are these disgusting ash white "witchwood forest" biomes, and how can i get rid of them?
You know what? Nevermind. This mod has no balance, the maker couldn't care less about the fans or their suggestions, it's gotten progressively worse and grindier with each update, the level gen is disgusting, and the spell system is repetitive and underpowered with no replay value. Shove it. I'd rather play with no mods than this one.
Thank you for getting involved out of the blue with no indication you had anything to do with the topic at hand.

I uninstalled Optifine already though... I'll try to do it again.
I tried summoning a life guardian (checking the bosses to see if the lighting/winter guardian stopped crashing my game in this version, this was the first one I checked.) and crashed. How do I fix this?
