I am on my way out (going to be turning AM2 + other ideas I have into a full-fledged game - hence why no open source), but before I left I promised I would do one last bugfixing update so that 1.7.10 is nice and stable.
Sounds interesting! I will definitely keep an eye out for this game. Thanks for the response!

Who knows, maybe once said game is released, someone will make a mod based on your game
Great to hear the progress on the bug fixes Mithion, i eagerly await your release so that i may test it.
Although i do have a question. Many months ago, my father (who plays AM2 in MC as well) had asked if you intended on allowing portals to move between dimensions. If i remember correctly, you had answered yes.
Do you still intend on doing that or not? If not, by all means, i completely understand. You have done so much for the mod already. It was just a nice thought, being able to somewhat control the location of your Nether portal, or have a "portal" room that all have uniform portals to different dimensions.
I am on my way out (going to be turning AM2 + other ideas I have into a full-fledged game - hence why no open source), but before I left I promised I would do one last bugfixing update so that 1.7.10 is nice and stable. This doesn't include inter-mod stuff, but it will be a lot better. Said update is now broken into 2 smaller ones, as I wasn't able to meet my christmas release date, so instead I am releasing an interim one with what I have so far. The rest will come in a quick update shortly after.
I also plan to be around to help answer questions and assist with coming up with workarounds, just not actively developing the mod anymore. But who knows, I won't say it's impossible that some day I'll get the itch and just update it again.
To that end, here's a list off the top of my head of what is fixed/changed in this update so far:
-The requirement for AnimationAPI has been re-added (since it updated, far simpler for me to un-comment the code than write my own)
-This has allowed me to re-add the lightning and ender guardians
-All bosses can be properly spawned now
-Tweaks to the compendium unlock code that allows rituals to unlock more easily
-Keystones no longer crash the game
-The inscription table auto-signs and completes books again (though in a slightly different way; the events/ItemStacks don't work properly in 1.7.10 to allow the old way of doing it)
-Several tessellation bugs have been fixed with the custom render blocks (not going to lie, won't miss MC render code)
Here's what's left to do:
-Finish the inscription table upgrade that allows all 5 shape groups to be used
-Complete the coremod update so that Shrink/Ender Boots View Flip/Scramble Synapses work properly again (this is the big one)
-Fix a couple ritual spells and the Intervention spells to not crash the game (mostly dimension transfer stuff)
-Fix any other major bugs that I missed
-One more texture update from D3miurge
can you PLEASE try and fix the morph issue? and maybe try and make this work with witchery's shrinking potion?

Technically, a Ritual of Recall will recall to any gateway with the proper keystone code, and this does happen to work across dimensions, so I suppose it's a viable option.
So is there a new update out now that I just haven't seen the link to? Mith's last post made it sound as if he released the interim update but I'm just not so sure yet...

No promises - I have an idea, but if it doesn't work I won't be putting much more time into it. Inter-mod compat isn't my highest concern at the moment.

seeing that you're here and all I wanted to tell you about a long time problem I have had with your mod. I love it but with the new ender guardian everytime I spawn it and the other bosses that came out with it i crash and get something like this.

Hey, really glad to hear that you're making progress with the bug fixes and everything!
Also Im not sure if it's just my game or it's a bug that will be fixed in the update, but I can not change casting modes, and armor xp infusion is not working. I did test using only AM2, and neither worked...
Mithion, I've been wondering this for a long time and as your going out I think it would make a nice addition to the last mod version and even if it doesn't, you can use this in whatever it is that you'll make after. Basically, one new targeting shape, called Ward, and some trigger shapes, falling, fire, projectile, magic and mob. Then some distance parts: Close (1 block), medium (3 block), far (5 block). The structure for one of these spells would be <Ward><Trigger><Distance><One of the octagonal ones>. When you have your spell, you right click to prime it and it doesn't drain any mana. It can't be used until the trigger is activated and then it drains mana. So let's say I don't want to get killed by falling. I could do: <Ward><Falling><Medium><Slow Fall> which would activate slow fall when I was 3 blocks off the ground and would stop me falling to my death. You could also repel projectiles by doing: <Ward><AOE><Projectile><Close><Repel> This means hat whenever an arrow is about to touch me, everything around me is repelled, including the arrow. You probably won't add this but you can if you want too and if you want to use it in your new game that is totally fine by me, I'm not gonna get all het up about getting credit because I just don't mind. Best of luck m8
That ain't a bad idea, but I dunno if he'll add it for either of the coming updates.
There are already ways to do those things, or close to them. There's a Contingency spell shape for 'falling' and a Reflect spell component that can bounce projectiles. Granted, it won't work automatically unless you tie it to a Contingency of some kind...taking damage, perhaps.

Seeing as AM2 will be discontinued after the final update, I will see if I can work to make a magic system similar to the one currently in this when I get around to making my own mod. Is that ok with you, Mithion? I won't steal your code without your permission, but I will most likely look at it to see how it works and try to find another method if possible. Many people want to see this mod continued into future Minecraft versions, so I would love to help by giving them something similar. Of course, what I create will always pale in comparison to the AM series, but I will try.
Beat of luck for the future, Mithion. I hope the game turns out well. I will buy it. Put it on steam, perhaps? Thankyou for giving us the joys of one of the best magic mods in existence. Words cannot express our gratitude. Farewell, good friend. We will miss you in the modding community. You will forever be in the Hall of Fame.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I have absolutely no issue with you making your own magic system. I'd be happy to answer questions here and there if you get stuck too
However:
AM2 is not open source, so I do not and will not condone reverse engineering it. If I wanted to share the code, I would have open sourced it (and I have done so with a few other projects - just not this one).
You can definitely use what I have done as inspiration (concepts, etc), but not as far as decompiling the code. I'd much rather you try it yourself first, and ask someone if you are having trouble. Who knows, you may come up with something far better than you might if you try to recreate what I have done too closely!
I'm not trying to be a jerk here or get into the legalities of the whole situation. It's more the principal of the thing and respecting my wishes. I hope that you will choose to do so, and I wish you the best of luck when you get started!
Sounds interesting! I will definitely keep an eye out for this game. Thanks for the response!

If I'm rude to you, just tell me. Don't take it too personally. Well, unless you were being stupid. If you were, DO take it personally.

Also Im not sure if it's just my game or it's a bug that will be fixed in the update, but I can not change casting modes, and armor xp infusion is not working. I did test using only AM2, and neither worked...
Anyways thanks for all the hard work, keep it up!
That ain't a bad idea, but I dunno if he'll add it for either of the coming updates.
Hmmm. Shield spell contingent on taking damage...
To the crafting altar!
Soon - it's one of the several projects I am currently working on. I'll post it here when it's up and running.
For those wondering, the coremod update also will fix XP infusion.
He's going to make Ars Magica his own game.
