Can you add a config option for disabling the Thaumcraft biomes?
Currently,i'm playing on a world where my self-imposed challenge is creating my own biomes, and with the newest updates having biome placement hard coded to weight=10,i can't use them without wrecking my world.
If you can't add a config option,i will wait patiently 'til forge fix their biome placing code.
Thanks for such a wonderful mod
there should be a config to set the rarity of the magical biomes. have you tried tuning them down to zero?
Quote from Starfal18»okay so we can turn items into liquid essentia... and compound liquid essentia to primal via centrifuge... what about mixing primals into compound again as it works in researches...???
i have to admit that it is rather annoying having so much essentia but you just get a little of the one you need...
I recall that being suggested. A lot. Like, a LOT. And I also recall it being rejected because of balancing reasons. Auram Essentia is a nice example of a type that is very hard to find, as the main sources are wisps and smashed nodes. Having Essentia compounding be possible would make it far too easy to make Auram, and all other Essentia types, out of crafting tables, netherrack and snowballs. That would be similar to a dirt-to-diamonds converter.

2 words. manabean breeding.
actually 4 with "whisp grinder".
but the easiest method for a steady supply of auram is to grab aer, ignis, ordo and perditio manabeans and breed them up to auram, then make a farm for auram beans to cook them up.
I usually just smash any Dark Nodes I can find and convert them into Essentia. Wisp grinders aren't really an option for me because I play on peaceful, and I haven't had the time for Mana Beans yet. That's something I'll do after I finish my Blood Magic staff. By the stars above, I love Forbidden Magic!

If I'm rude to you, just tell me. Don't take it too personally. Well, unless you were being stupid. If you were, DO take it personally.
Why oh why must the Eldrich Gaurdians spawn in the Twilight's Enchanted Forest? *pout* The colorful forest that I live in is constantly dark and foggy now. This is new, as I've only just noticed them spawning.
Are you using at least 4.2.1.0? That should be fixed now.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
I've got a quick question. Probably was already asked and answered, but I can't seem to find it:
I absent-mindedly just launched my single-player Thaumcraft world with different, non-Thaumcraft Minecraft profile. I immediately noticed something was up when I opened my inventory and everything was gone. I immediately realized my mistake and relaunched with my Thaumcraft profile. Still gone! I'd made a huge amount of progress with my enchanted gear, wands/staves, research, etc., and it all seems to be gone. Very, very stupid mistake.
Thaumcraft is the first Minecraft mod I've used, so I'm still new to the experience. My question is, is there any way to retrieve what I lost? (Aside from restoring from a backup - didn't think to do back up my world beforehand, another stupid mistake.)
Thanks, guys.
If you're on a Windows machine, you can go into your save folder's "Properties" menu and switch it back to a previous version. That can be painful if the machine hasn't made a restore point in a couple days (I think that's where previous file versions come from), but it's still probably easier than manually replacing everything.

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!
yeah i never could get my mana bean farm working... specially since last time i tried it i actually tried to enter the end and my game would not load the world anymore... seems like the latest thaum update fixed that... but that world is now gone... and im starting over from scrach rather than starting for a flurry fuzzy point where my world was 5 days old and half of the things i did were undone... gosh...
anyways could i ask for a guide to how mana beans actually work and how can i use them other than eating them and suffering weird effects...
ok, here is how they are working now.
there are 7 types of manabeans you can find in the wild, by looking around in magical forests, or by trading valuable objects (lucrum values on the item being the deciding factor) with certain pech (also spawning in magical forests).
there types of manabeans you can find are the 6 primal aspects and herba. the pods now actually take on the appropriate color for their aspect (orange for fire, white gray for ordo etc).
they are growing overhead under the trees in magical forests now, instead of on the sides of the logs. and thats also the way you have to plant them now.
they have multiple growth stadiums, and a fully grown pod can yield 1 to 2 manabeans (by the way azanor, please add the pulsating glow and the sparkles back to make it more clear, when theyre fully grown. also it looked cool). however a planted manabean must be at least in the second growth stadium to be picked up (have a tiny pod), as far as ive seen. planting it and immediately breaking it without any growth seemed to just deswtroy the bean.
now here comes the fun part. manabeans harvested from a pod are no longer random. you plant fire beans, you will always get fire beans back. etc. unless youre planting certain aspects right next to each other. in that case, the beans have a chance to breed into the compound aspects, thats made up of the parents. so planting aer and perditio beans next to each other can yield you vacuus beans. planting potentia and vacuus next to each other can give you praecantatio beans and so forth.
you can now breed yourself up to the compound aspect you desire, and then make a farm purely for that aspect. beans are also fully automatable with harvest golems.
one thing to remember is, that you can only plant them in magical biomes. meaning on trees that grow on tainted land (you probably dont want that), eerie biomes, or magical forests.
you can terraform your own land into magical forest by planting and growing silverwood trees. it usually works, though you might have to try a couple times since they dont always seem to convert the land. i think they have to be either large enough, or spawn with nodes inside them.
So, I've seen a lot of people wondering how to get golems to fill essentia reservoirs. Here's a little screenshot that can show you how you fill them. (I made this a spoiler for those people who don't want spoilers on their TC research and such)
yeah okay i know all of that... and yes in order to convert the land they have to have a minimum of 1 node inside of them... as far as i know and from personal experiance...
i also noted that eating them only yield research points... or so i heard... i never did realize this purpose till a video that explianed it... but do i understand it properly that i can actually place the beans in the alchemical furnace to smelt them into aspect essences?
yes, each bean yields 1 aspect of its type. you can smelt them down in alchemical furnaces, or throw them directly into the crucible for crafting.
[quote]Quote from TennePG»So, I've seen a lot of people wondering how to get golems to fill essentia reservoirs. Here's a little screenshot that can show you how you fill them.
ohh, spoilers. i didnt get the research yet. but those look awesome. i guess they are large essentia containers for a specific type of essentia, to run machines like the lamp of growth etc?
hay Azanor i getting a bug where mana beans are dropping the beans of other flavors but only the ones that are planted nearby when they are harvested though its not affecting my yield which makes me wonder if its happening when 2 golems harvest at the same time it not so anoyoying save for the it makes my carefully layed out farm slowly go multicolored and breeds aspects i don't need

Filling is easy. The problem arises when you try to empty them.

Oh my, the amount of run-on sentence and strange wording... You do know how the new mana bean system works right? That mana beans that are capable of crossbreeding will do so if placed near each other? That is a perfect setup for trying to do that, if you only want primals your going to have to spread them out, everything is too close in there.

hmm no. its not just that. primal manabeans are randomized it seems. im trying to multiply my primal manabeans to have a basic stock before breeding. but when you plant a specific primal bean, there seems to grow a random primal pod from it.
there is no crossbreeding with the first generation, but it kindof makes it impossible to automate a single primal aspect, since the second generation will consist of a lot of mixed beans that will crossbreed in the third. if that makes sense.
it weould be really really appreciated, if there would be the same beans growing, that you planted. this would make breeding a lot less difficult. because right now, i ran out of ignis beans. and i need those for potentia : /
i have to hope for random ignis growth from other pods now.
and just to confirm. the pods are only breeding with directly adjacent beans? or is the radius further?
also, i dont know if its been mentioned. but the aspects of the trigger item are left over in the crucible after the crafting process. making clean crafting practically impossible.
I have had the same thing happen to me. What is weird is that putting a wooden button on my hot bar makes the text come back.
I use Optifine, but I notice that you do not, so I do not think that is the problem.
For me also, the purple area inside the thaumometer vanishes when the text vanishes.
It is strange.
Okay, I think I have figured out my problem. The wooden button didn't work for me, but I thought maybe it wasn't the button that was helping but rather what you took off your hotbar to but the button there. I cleared my entire hotbar except for the thaumometer - and I got my notifications back!
If I have Tinkers Construct tools on my hotbar, the notifications will not appear when scanning. As soon as I take them off my hotbar, my notifications come back again.
Not sure if this is something that needs to be fixed with Thaumcraft, TiCon, or some other mod interacting with both of them together. I'm currently using TiCon 1.7.0d3. I see there is a new release d4 out today, along with a new Mantle version to go with it. I'll see if that fixes things.
I'll have to try the wooden button when I get home today. I haven't noticed the area inside the thaumometer vanishing, though.
Would you mind posting your mod list? Maybe it could help rule out mods we don't have in common, at least.

there should be a config to set the rarity of the magical biomes. have you tried tuning them down to zero?

Are you using at least 4.2.1.0? That should be fixed now.
If you're on a Windows machine, you can go into your save folder's "Properties" menu and switch it back to a previous version. That can be painful if the machine hasn't made a restore point in a couple days (I think that's where previous file versions come from), but it's still probably easier than manually replacing everything.
ok, here is how they are working now.
there are 7 types of manabeans you can find in the wild, by looking around in magical forests, or by trading valuable objects (lucrum values on the item being the deciding factor) with certain pech (also spawning in magical forests).
there types of manabeans you can find are the 6 primal aspects and herba. the pods now actually take on the appropriate color for their aspect (orange for fire, white gray for ordo etc).
they are growing overhead under the trees in magical forests now, instead of on the sides of the logs. and thats also the way you have to plant them now.
they have multiple growth stadiums, and a fully grown pod can yield 1 to 2 manabeans (by the way azanor, please add the pulsating glow and the sparkles back to make it more clear, when theyre fully grown. also it looked cool). however a planted manabean must be at least in the second growth stadium to be picked up (have a tiny pod), as far as ive seen. planting it and immediately breaking it without any growth seemed to just deswtroy the bean.
now here comes the fun part. manabeans harvested from a pod are no longer random. you plant fire beans, you will always get fire beans back. etc. unless youre planting certain aspects right next to each other. in that case, the beans have a chance to breed into the compound aspects, thats made up of the parents. so planting aer and perditio beans next to each other can yield you vacuus beans. planting potentia and vacuus next to each other can give you praecantatio beans and so forth.
you can now breed yourself up to the compound aspect you desire, and then make a farm purely for that aspect. beans are also fully automatable with harvest golems.
one thing to remember is, that you can only plant them in magical biomes. meaning on trees that grow on tainted land (you probably dont want that), eerie biomes, or magical forests.
you can terraform your own land into magical forest by planting and growing silverwood trees. it usually works, though you might have to try a couple times since they dont always seem to convert the land. i think they have to be either large enough, or spawn with nodes inside them.
happy farming!
So, I'm using the 1.7.2 version and there isn't a config file in the config folder for Thaumcraft. Can anyone help me?
The structures they spawn at seem to be randomly generated. I have an altar where a group of them are gathered close to my base.
I wonder what they're doing with that node...
yes, each bean yields 1 aspect of its type. you can smelt them down in alchemical furnaces, or throw them directly into the crucible for crafting.
[quote]Quote from TennePG »So, I've seen a lot of people wondering how to get golems to fill essentia reservoirs.
I know it's easy, I've just seen quite a few people saying that they can only be filled by pipes and not golems .-.
"Who am I, you may wonder?
I am someone you know very well.
For I am every man you meet
and I am every woman you meet."
hmm no. its not just that. primal manabeans are randomized it seems. im trying to multiply my primal manabeans to have a basic stock before breeding. but when you plant a specific primal bean, there seems to grow a random primal pod from it.
there is no crossbreeding with the first generation, but it kindof makes it impossible to automate a single primal aspect, since the second generation will consist of a lot of mixed beans that will crossbreed in the third. if that makes sense.
it weould be really really appreciated, if there would be the same beans growing, that you planted. this would make breeding a lot less difficult. because right now, i ran out of ignis beans. and i need those for potentia : /
i have to hope for random ignis growth from other pods now.
and just to confirm. the pods are only breeding with directly adjacent beans? or is the radius further?
also, i dont know if its been mentioned. but the aspects of the trigger item are left over in the crucible after the crafting process. making clean crafting practically impossible.
