Restone lamp useless? I use them a lot for mob spawners that I want to be able to disable with a press of a button.
And how does a redstone lamp disable a mob spawner? A mob spawner will spawn mobs in any square within its 9x9 area thats below light level 7 and a redstone torch, at light level 7 will only inhibit spaning directly adjacent to itself!?

A redstone torch is only level 7. A redstone lamp goes to level 15 (similar to glowstone as it is actually made from glowstone).

Hi, first a congratulations for this excellent mod which adds a very nice presence of magic to the MineCraft world. I have a question though. In the thaumcraft config file it says:
# The chance per block update (1 in n) of the Taint biome spreading. Setting it to 0 prevents the spread of Taint biomes.
I:biome_taint_spread=200
So 0 is easy. That would disable it. Am I correct in saying that a value of 2000 would lower the rate of spreading here? i.e. 1/2000 is less chance of spread then 1/200.

Yes that's correct. 0 means 0 chunks tainted. A 1/1 chance would mean all chunks being tainted. 1/200 means every 200th chunk will be tainted and so on so the higher the number means the less chance a chunk will be tainted.
Ok but note that I'm talking about the spreading of taint here and not the generation of taint biomes. I want to lower the spread of taint but not completely remove it.

Would it be possible to add some "difficulty" settings to some things?
I'm playing on a server with a lot of settings to increase the overall difficulty. We love Thaumcraft, but at the same time we feel the need to tweak some settings to make some things more difficult/expensive to use.
For example the consumption rate of the lamps, the furnace and especially the Arcane Bore.

Right now if you click on them with a wand tubes will only keep the connection with the face used to "plant"them... (example, if you right click on a tube with a tube, the second tube if clicked with a wand will only keep the connection to the first one.)(wow, very bad explaining, hope you understood).
There are little quirks (like tubes to machines behave a little differently), but Azanor lready said that he is working on a "TE3" style system with individual/ cyclic sides.
My buffers always have a 1 untyped suction on them, unless i add some bellows to the mix (the first one raises suction to 32, can be disabled with a redstone signal). I do not know if you have come across a bug, but a screen would help Azanor bugfix if thats' the case.

Aside from turning up your difficulty level, your best bet to make things more challenging is to edit your config. I'd recommend changing the following:
Lower the number of nodes being spawned, making it harder to recharge wands: I:node_rarity=36 (Change 36 to a higher number. Around 50 will probably be as high as you want to go)
Rase the frequency of "special" nodes, increasing the probability of sinister and hungry nodes: I:special_node_rarity=18 (Lower this to increase how many nodes will be special. 3 will probably be your minimal amount)
Lower the amount of essentia per item scanned: I:aspect_cap=8 (The number coincides with the essentia cap. 4 is probably the realistic minimal)
Lower the total number of essentia (per aspect) you can have by lowering the soft cap: I:aspect_total_cap=64 (30 is probably as low as you'll want to go)
Remove the possibility for "buyable" research: I:research_difficulty=0 (Change this number to 1)
Rase the chance of a taint biome spawning per every normal chunk: I:biome_taint_chance=2000 (Lower this number. 50 should make things pretty "difficult")
Increase the speed taint will spread: I:biome_taint_spread=200 (Lower this number. Again, 50 should work "perfectly")
You can, by using what prehaps is an unintended "feature". Get a full suit of cost reduction equipment (so goggles, thaumostatic harness, pants and boots of the thaumaturge.) A Thaumium - silverwood wand, a focus with just frugal 3.
Add the focus to the wand, dress the armor, put the ingredients on the table, put the focus capped wand and it whould be possible to craft the Staff. The primal staff is still uncraftable, since Azanor is waiting to add some more nifty features before giving us the pleasure to have that beast usable
There we go I did not think about the frugal 3 in worktable would work thanks and I still think there should be a work table like i said before to use these wands in and somthing like the infusion table from TC3 would be geart

Azanor has said there will be things to fill in the gaps. So atm, higher end staves with thaumium caps aren't craftable in TC4 without the aid of addons. Gold caps might work to make the higher end staves, but thaumium will have to wait.

Well, I've discovered something better then rotten flesh and blocks of flesh for the destruction table: Wool. It's easy to get and nearly always gives a RP. The only downside is that it doesn't give any ignis.
