Making items in TC usually starts with completing the required research. This might include having to complete a sequence of other researches to be able to complete a specific one.
NEI and JEI have been pretty good about showing the recipe when TC items become available if you have completed the required research. If a recipe doesn't show up, research not complete.

Looks like on Azanors Patreon there is a topic called Thaumcraft Theorycrafting Mechanic. I wonder what that could be referring too. I know in the video he posted there were more requirements for research like field notes. I wonder if there are ways to gain theories. Such as witnessing an event or causing one to occur. Either way, I'd love for there to be some outside word studying required for research. How does great wood react to water, or if a fireshard is lava resistant. Weird things that you need to think out of the box for.

That would be actually quite intruiging.
If we are at it, why not through literal essentia onto and into stuff.
Does one create sand if you through a vial of perditio on some stone? Can hitting a fire shard against something flamable work as a fire starter?
What happens if you use liquid death for watering magic plants?

Yes, I AM a Vampire. Nice of you to notice.
Why is that box so big? What do you mean I should stop breaking the fourth wall?
However I'd like it if the stuff would be called differently before you pour it over some plants or Living Entities.
Bucket of Concentrated Taint or something along those lines. And then you'd name it after having witnessed what it does to Plants and Living Entities.
That would be a really cool way to have a refreshing experience for new and old players of TC. Sort of how aspects use to be hidden and research was in a runic language.
Why would they not, simply, die? I mean, it's not called Liquid Death for no reason...
I understand, I was kidding. (You may have noticed, but I don't know if you noticed, because internet.)
Maybe if you inject it--
Nope still dead.
There would have to be something else, that is not Liquid Death.
Liquid Death is made for death, (just fyi) but I am thinking about what would happen if you had a very powerful lifeform and applied some liquid death... but that goes back into the "tainted" area, where things things would act more like chemistry.
Taint = tainting things, so, changing their scientific properties and stuff, similar to chemistry, I guess.
Liquid Death = ...deaths things.
I don't think it'd be absorbed, I think it would be just some goopey combination of liquid death and dissolved wood. Trees don't absorb liquids, the roots do. (Which are part lf the tree, I know, whatever.) Even if the roots did absorb liquid death, the tree would just die.
I think liquid death is being confused with something else, that I do not know of.
Take the concept of death.
Think of it as a liquid.
That's liquid death.
i know that somewhere in game/on the fourms there was a thing about drinking the essenca of certain aspects to achieve certain affects like drinking congnito would make you smarter for a set period of time the light one would make you glow herba would give you a thorns/bonemeal affect aqua would let you swim faster/breath water fire would make you immune to fire damage so on and so on.

Forgot to mention that for some reason I thought that it would dry out the planks, squeasing out all the "life" that is left (the equivalent reaction of creating crystals from mobs) and then the planks would try to absorb liquid like a sponge.
Plus, Mortuus is somewhat liquid. The aspect in vis form

I can't even believe this is true until I came to check it here. Glad to have you back in the modding community. Hope everything is smooth and we will get to see your work soon. I have waited long enough to see Winter finally came to Westeros and Thanos coming to earth, and hopefully a full release Thaumcraft 6.
Hope you wont get stressed up with how happy we are to your returns. (Or maybe you should :p)

Guys, I think a log ceases to live as soon as you chop it.
Even in Minecraft it should be dead as soon as you make planks from it.
My guess would be they would dry out and absorb the liquid death creating a plank block that is literally posionous.

Safe from termites.
I made a D flip-flop!
Termites would not want to be in that log...

Using essentia to make potions? Why is this not already a thing?!
"We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
I believe that is a thing in Thaumic Horizons. Not potions, but the concept is the same.

Because drinking hydrofluoric acid is not a good idea. Or licking an exposed cable.
Similar with essentia. Not a good idea to drink the manifestation of the very powers that make up the world
