Vanilla enchanting would be bearable if there were a way to remove enchantments. Fortunately, Thaumik Tinkerer and Botania has items for this.
Two mods I am happy to see the back of in my latest mod pack.

In 1.8 you get to ... verify the enchant an item is about to get, so you rarely need to remove enchants. Just cycle loads and loads and @#$(ing loads of items, books and trash through the enchanting table to very very very slowly build up the enchants you want.

ooo i've not thought of that:/ ... MFR had this too;)
i've just been checking the active area for this essential furnace setup and it's huge, 32x32x16=16,384 jars! this was calculated by using only one essential transposer placed directly on top and pointing up, thinking this is also the most efficient way to have it set up (having them pointing up, because then i can fit 4 alembics on it and have them all point in the same direction). previously i had set it up to spurt out horizontally and had an alchemical construct placed next to it for ease of use, will have to test this pointing "up" and also the active area for the runic matrix (i'm thinking it's the same as the "transposer" so maybe placing that setup inside the jarred area would be best..) hopefully the active area go down a little more because my plan is to have the infusion crafting blocks placed directly above the jar above ground... i've found that essential has no problem at all travelling through blocks, it might look like it's having a problem but actually it's just having a laugh, the sinter will transfer instantly and doesn't wait for the particles (i expect most of you know this already). previously i'd set it up with holes in the floor to have to essential spill through and used the "warded" blocks to stop creepers from jumping down them (a few time i've looked up there and had a green face staring back at me).
now on to actual feedback:
there still appears to be this thing when i'll pick up an essentia jar with some in it and if i then pick up another one one of them will be "lost" in my inventory, usually i just have to wait or place a block to have this realise it's gone wrong.
i couldn't remember the names for everything so sorry about that, hopefully you get me;)
I am excited for the next update! Azanor said he would add a thing that takes flux out of the aura, that is what I'm the most excited about! Although, it would be even better if he added essentia reservoirs back into this update too!

Dose every single post of yours in this thread really need to mention the fact that TC5 lacks reservoirs? There's likely a good reason for reservoirs not making a return. It could be needing a new model, difficulty trying to re-implement it in 1.8 or some other reason. Begging for it to make a return like a spoiled kid isn't really going to accomplish anything other then annoy people.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
-> Finding a jungle biome for cocoa (harvest seal)
-> Finding slimes (jar label)
-> Repair enchant (found 2 times a repair, have 3 chests full of crap low level enchant books)
Ditto on the Jungle biome. Personally, I think that's too hard a task for the pay off. I'm hoping it gets changed.
Finding slimes - You only need one. Once you have one, you can duplicate it with Alchemical reproduction methods. I was working a swamp over for 3 full moons and for some reason the game just wouldn't spawn a slime.. ended up finding a little guy bouncing around a cavern.. must have walked into a slime spawn chunk.
Repair enchant - DO NOT OPEN THE TREASURES. I tell everyone this.. you get MUCH better stuff from the Pechs if you roll the dice on the treasure then if you open it yourself. I have gotten 7 repair enchant books off of the pechs on merely uncommon treasures.
Someone was talking about an experience grinder. I suggest looking for a barrow. You'll have a skel and zom spawner within 10 blocks of each other, topped off by a sinister node. I have actually not gotten my sinister node to spawn zombies yet... I'm guessing it has to do with spawnable area under it.. I'm working on that as well.. but a simple zombi/skel duo spawner grinder will produce about 30 levels in about 10 minutes. Really not that long to wait since you're exploiting the game mechanics anyway.

Right on. You wouldn't want to annoy Azanor, or else he might remove them for good, or maybe just delay them on purpose, just to teach you a lesson about spam. Because no one likes spam.
Edit: I'm not saying Azanor would do something like that, just that it's a possibility, I don't claim to know him.
I hope someday there's more magic in Minecraft, though I know it's not likely to happen. In the meantime, I play modded a lot. I enjoy a lot of other games too, so don't expect me to be on the forums all the time.

For anyone who has a small patch of taint in their world, either from purposeful(or otherwise) flux dumping, or from natural phenomenons like tainted or hungry nodes, and would like to farm it without letting it grow too much larger: Tainted chickens are easily created by throwing eggs into the taint or by luring chickens there with seeds, do not require the taint to be very large for massive numbers to be present, and are rather weak compared to taintacles or the like. My current plan for an auto taint farm involves building part of the classic chicken tower, but instead of the eggs going into another section of the tower, they are ejected into the taint, and several nearby turrets set to attack only hostile creatures will finish them off as soon as they get tainted. I can then have a void metal gather golem with levitation legs pick up the drops and fly them straight to a hopper feeding into a mirror. (Reason for specific golem type: The machinery will be elevated off the ground to prevent taint mishaps, and keeping him off the ground will help prevent taint poison, and void metal golems will recover faster in case of injury. Also, I plan to armor the little guy so that the fragile trait from the parts I chose gets cancelled out.) (The machinery will also have an ethereal bloom nearby in case of a worst-case scenario.) Anyone who sees a flaw in the system, let me know so that I can make adjustments. Also, how DO you get the flying golem research?

The flying golem legs I'm not sure on but the mirror you will need something to clean up the flux that is produced on the side at your base which can be solved while using a tainted mob, put a container that is capable of holding a tainted crawler in the same chunk that the end mirror is in and lure a tainted crawler into the container, then name the crawler anything to prevent it from despawning, this is an indefinitely flux reducing setup that will constantly drain flux in an area (you could even use totems to any flux in your base to the crawler), credit goes to hyxaru for the taint cleanser.

I play only with the top notch mods only, which instantly excludes orespawn and lucky blocks.

Thanks, but two things: 1 How do you get a tainted crawler to spawn? 2 I already have a partially automatic silverwood farm, which I had hoped to fully automate later on.

Arcane Levitator research and the thaumostatic harness, plus the girdle too.
Do I have to make and scan one of those?

Do open treasures. Sugar has desridium on it now, and phials of it are worth the same as uncommon treasures. Larger quantities can be done by using partially filled warded jars.
In TC4, Rare treasure bags had a chance of dropping a Primordial Pearl. Don't know if that's the case yet in TC5, but here's to hoping...
I never did figure out how to get the flying golem legs, and I really wanted a flying golem as part of a system I was cooking up for taint farming. I already have all the research in the Levitator path, even tried scanning a Levitator. No luck.
Edit: figured it out. I'll leave my mistake in a spoiler tag here:
Derpy me didn't realize you needed the climbing module before you could get the flying one.
Now, onto a new problem: I only know one very small swamp quite a ways from my base, I have no slimeballs, and the flying golem takes a slimeball(to glue the levitator in place.) Sigh... it's going to be a real pain getting a slimeball to multiply... I saw a slime one time, and it didn't give me ANY slimeballs... other than that, this swamp is just too small. Dangerous at night too: I died on that same trip. I did get my stuff back though, so no worries there.

So I just got into thaumcraft on a new world, I did quite a bit of research, the only forbidden research being Research Mastery and Infernal Furnace. I also made sufficient use of my Excavation focus, which was difficult as there wasn't much Terra aura in the area. The only things from thaumcraft I made was a Greatwood Gold Capped Wand, a Focus Pouch, Goggles of Revealing, a Lightning Focus and an Excavation Focus.
At any rate, I was just minding my own business, and on a clear day lightning stroke nearby, and the entire area surrounding my base started turning into taint. So, where did I mess up?. I'm guessing my excavation focus probably screwed somethings over, but I somewhat doubt running the area out of terra a dozen times can cause this much of an issue.
So, where did I screw up, and how can I prevent this from happening?
Two mods I am happy to see the back of in my latest mod pack.

If only there were vanilla golems in Minecraft already, to inspire the novice thaumaturge.
did you
- Scan a (snow) golem already? Thats what I forgot to do before the tab opened
- scan dispenser

you can find cocoa beans in vanilla chests right? at least in mineshafts. i was spoiled on my first playthrough though - spawned in a jungle
