Hi arzanor i really love your mod. I have a question, will you ever add a way to combine essentia? it is sometimes difficult to obtain certain resources like venenum due to it belonging to a finite resource such as quick silver or vishrooms. i would love to see some kind of machine that uses potentia to combine different essentia into others like aqua and perditio to make venenum. if i am missing it and its already in the game please let me know.
First of all: all essentia is renewable due to mana beans. Also, venenum is also found on spider eyes. This makes it renewable even if mana beans are excluded. I cannot think of any essentia that is not renewable, even by excluding mana beans.
Second: Many consider this imbalanced as it makes rare essentia easy to produce (Just like mana beans do). It's unlikely this'll be added. There was also a discussion about this not too long ago, although it may be a few pages back by now. If you are desperate and need a rare essentia, then try growing mana beans.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
The answer seems to universally be no. The whole point of hard-to-find essentia is that it's hard to find. It's part of the balancing. Take Vitium. Taint. Found exclusively on tainted things. It wouldn't make much sense if I could just manufacture that essentia instead of going out to find the resource.
Which I think is maybe a better way to look at it. The hard-to-find ones are resources like any other. You have to go out and mine for diamonds, you have to go exploring if you want to find cocoa, and you gotta go hunt down the rare essentia you need.
Supposing I wanted to use an NBT editor to remove warp from a player, would I go to the player_name.thaum and player_name.thaumback files in the player's data, and then edit Thaumcraft.Eldritch(or Thaumcraft.eldritch.x for one of the non-permanent types of warp)?
This is mostly hypothetical. I don't intend to cheat like that unless the warp causes too much trouble.

Essentia combining will never happen in the current form of TC. No fuel cost or conversion loss mechanic will make it balanced against the current system.
Having said that, I have in the past toyed with the idea of making items only ever break down into primals. Combining those primals into compounds would become an integral part of the TC "experience" and required to progress. When I suggested it however the reaction was generally negative so I ended up abandoning the idea.

Well, (for example) Alienis at the moment feels special - you need ender <something> to get it. Which make ender pearls special.
If ender pearls decomposed into primals, then we could presumably not bother to gather them, and simply make crafting benches instead. Which feels like thaumcraft progression would be a lot less gated.
Yup, that is one of the problems with a system like that.
Perhaps if the mixing process depended on catalysts... Then alienis essentia could be made from primals, but enderpearls would be a catalyst - well, a reagent as a proper catalyst would not be consumable, but we would, I think, want to use up ender pearls in this process - in the processess of synthesizing alienis.
What's a good source of Iter? I'm at the stage of getting Boots of the Traveller, but the only thing which I've scanned so far with it that is in any way reliably acquireable is ender pearls, and it feels a little silly to have to use five of them when the boots are meant to be more of a "basic item" in the infusion altar.
Saddles feel more reasonable, but of course can only be found in dungeon chests. I suppose that does involve travelling...
At the risk of pointing out the obvious ... Mine carts and track both have Iter. Mine carts have four per cart.
If you have Railcraft installed, high speed rail also has Iter.
EDIT: I just counted them, and there are exactly 48 in base TC. Huh. Guess you were right.
My distillery has storage allocated for all 48 aspects, but I have only actually discovered 47. Aer, Alienis, Aqua, Arbor, Auram, Bestia, Cognitio, Corpus, Exanimis, Fabrico, Fames, Gelum, Herba, Humanus, Ignis, Instrumentum, Iter, Limus, Lucrum, Lux, Machina, Messis, Metallum, Meto, Mortuus, Motus, Ordo, Pannus, Perditio, Perfodio, Permutatio, Potentia, Praecantatio, Sano, Sensus, Spiritus, Telum, Tenebrae, Terra, Tutamen, Vacuos, Venenum, Victus, Vinculum, Vitium, Vitreus, Volatus.
If there is a 48th aspect that still exists, I'm curious to know what it is. I remember there used to be 50, but if memory serves, Granum, Saxum, and Tempestas were removed because they didn't do anything.

Boats are great since wood is super easy to get, but it's more options!
The 48th aspect you're looking for is Tempestas, which is still in the game, despite still doing nothing!

Tempesta hasn't been removed (at least in the current version of TC). It is still present in creative mode at least.

.....You're correct. For some reason it was not in my Thaumonomicon, even though I had a point of it plus a ghost point sitting in my research table. I created another point manually, and NOW it's in my Thaumonomicon.
Very odd. And still completely moot because nothing has it, so I can't get any.
technically false. cross-breeding Mana Beans can produce tempestus. if you want to get it for the sake of completeness
True, I don't tend to think of mana beans because I've really never made any concerted attempt to farm them. I started a small mana bean farm once in 1.6.4 and it was a miserable failure. My golems were constantly getting lost or stuck or just staring at the wall, or disappearing altogether.
And I did once find an aura node with some Tempestas on it. I don't remember whether that was in 1.6.4 or 1.7.10.

Well there is an easyer way. just do /thaum warp NAME set 0 [Perm/Temp]. if you dont put anythink in the brackets place it will remove normal warp

Far easier than editing NBT files...

do you plan on only making the update for 1.8?

Yes, he's way too far in to port it to 1.7.10. He'd literally have to rewrite all the renders he's already wrote to backdate to 1.7.10.

I've also had it show up in my warded jars at times, but have never been able to replicate it.

I updated the Thaumcraft Research Helper to the latest version.
Sorry it took so much time I am quite busy IRL lately.
The new version includes the changes to some of the aspect parents.
I also included basic sources for the aspects when you select 'Parents only'
As usual you can get it from the Thaumcraft Research Helper site
uhh i think i have been permanently blinded... yeah help
