You're comparing apple and oranges here. Sure, they do the same thing, but they're different. Golems pickup items near them and are meant for automation. Magnet mode only picks up items around you. And that's only comparing magnet mode to a gather golem. Golems can do other things too. If you consider golems to be "wasting your time" then you're doing it wrong. They're meant to do simple chores to save time. (Also, having hundreds of blocks moving around essentia could cause more lag then a single golem doing the same task. I haven't actually checked but I wouldn't be surprised if my essentia system caused worse performance then a golem would.)
So I'm no one then? I tried to offer an explanation of what's going on and asked to see pictures of your system to make sure it was setup correctly. I'm trying to help but it's beginning to get difficult.
i put up pics of my world, and nuked the pipe system (was in a superflat world to see why nothing woudl work, i literally got so mad i set up a nuke form IC2 and nuked it). And golems doesnt fix my issue of 1-2 extra essence after melting stuff down, ive nmoticed a bug with torchino where if i set up one jar attached to one alembic with say 30 cobblestones being melted down, ill end up with 40 or more essence. Ive also been told that golems carry 8 essence every time, so what am i suppsoed to do with the extra?

We really can't meaningfully help if we can't see what your setup is. As to your other point, all you are telling us is you haven't even tried to use golems to move essentia around - an alchemy golem can hold up to their carry limit of essentia, so from a single point up to around eight, depending on the material of the golem. They are quite literally designed to be able to move around essentia when phials (which hold eight, and only eight essentia) aren't precise enough, or when the items you are boiling down don't divide nicely by eight.
The pipe systems you seem so caught up on are designed to be mostly used for very specific builds - like powering a Lamp of Growth, or provoding material to one of the automated alchemy setups. Golems really are the best way to manage your essentia storage.

Angels are bright, though the brightest fell. Though all things foul would wear the brows of grace; Still grace must look so.
And by the way; Who is John Galt?
So, I'm about reaching the point where I can begin my crucible work in earnest. Am I probably best off sending everything through alembics to distill all the individual essentia, for precise crucible work? Keep out all the extra bits that would otherwise just make a mess and so forth. Suppose that means I'll be setting up some warded jars first. Although I think I might run into the issue being discussed, with some things not evenly dividing for phialing. Could be I'll be setting up my own golem soon.
Discovered the ore purification, ready to get going on that. Is probably iron nuggets one of the best ways of providing the metallum to the crucible? Figuring since the ores will be doubled, the minor loss through nuggets might be acceptable.
Also found I was super fortunate in my location for a base. Digging into a mountain, branching off every so often for certain things. Knew I needed to figure out something special for the infusion altar, and just so happened to break into a nice big round cavern at the back of the mountain. Perrrrfect for a lovely altar room once it's cleaned up.

I must be blind because I never saw any picture of tubes. Oh well. Don't say I didn't try to help.
Guess an essentia system will just be a pipe dream then. Sorry... I'll go sit in a corner now...

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
never mind i guess i needed a lot of heads my head room is still not ready
i guess the stability depends on the rarity of the stabilizers and heads and candles are pretty easy to get
last time i had 25x25x2 rows of zombie heads which is 19 stacks and a little bit more
The_Last_Dovahkiinanyway 10x for the picture site you gave me it will come in use some other day
i used to use another site but for some reason uploads failed
If you have that many stabilizers and you're still getting instability, you should make sure you haven't accidentally placed your stabilizer room offset from your altar. Stabilizers have to be symmetrically arranged around the altar's vertical axis.
I would suggest just directly uploading the pictures to the forum itself, we know that works.
i did do stuff in the mod, but i did not see they way you put it "Thaumcraft is magic viewed as science" i think that is brillint and i think i will try it again, my problem was the magic seemed like it was so far away and hard to get to and i thought that by the time i got there i would be disapointed beacuase there is not a lot to do. my definition of magic is spell casting, summoning fire out of thin air. and thuamcraft did not seem to have that
Thaumcraft personal magic is shooting semi-seeking lightning and streams of fire from your staff, making ore and obsidian trade places with junk in your inventory, flying on bottled energy, and wearing forcefield-augmented self-repairing magic armor. At least half of it is backstage stuff though: craftable servants to harvest your crops, a fuelless furnace that gives bonuses, a tunnel-boring ray, duplicating hard-to-get items in your crucible, recycling scrap metal from mobs into usable ingots, and lighting up your whole house with a single lantern.

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!
and as i stated, i HATE GOLEMS, im not going to add further lag to my world for one single golem usage, i play with magnet mode so i would only ever use them for essence, and thats a waste of my time.
i did copy those pictures, and i did ask questions, and no ones giving me an answer, the last question i asked was in big bold ranty letters when i asked how my tubes were gummed up with ONE TYPE OF ESSENSE IN THEM. ONE TYPE, with ONE DESTINATION gummed up, and not even shotting red gas either, was shooting white gas out of the tube, which made even less sense. So how about a simplified explination of how tubes work now? like why does it say can accept 2 diffrent essence at once in my thauminomicon, but then in practice cant even do one type?
First of all, Golems don't even lag that much, if at all. If they do, then something is very wrong. And only the Gather core really deals with dropped items, so having Magnet Mode active is completely irrelevant. They also deal with farming (both crops and animals), defense, item or fluid transport between containers, and, as mentioned, essentia transport.
Secondly, the color of gas being emitted by the tubes indicates the type of essentia causing the issue. White gas could be Potentia, Tempestas, Desidia, Vinculum, or Gelum, for example. Red could be Fames, Ira, Infernus, Telum, or Ignis.
Third, tubes have been changed to only allow one type of Essentia in a pipeline at once, and the Thaumonomicon says so very clearly.
Fourth, calmly asking questions and giving DETAILED EXPLANATIONS generally work better than yelling at everyone and complaining that no one is helping, when several people are in fact attempting to help you, seemingly against your will.
Becuase pipes have nothing to do with research. You do research, you get new items to craft, ive been handdrafting my entire world for over a month now, i have the largest possibly quarry in buildcraft running without any delays, i have the largest possible forestry farms running with full automation, i have project E melting down every item i dont need right this second into EMC for future usage. What i doint have? automated essentia production, becuase the pipping system makes no sense, you cant tell me that i cant copy paste someone elses design over to my own world since the rules of how pipes work have to remain the same in every world.
When you research something, you should at least make an attempt to achieve a higher understanding before researching and crafting more advanced components. Understand how piping systems work a bit better with simple jars before trying to use reservoirs, for example.
Essentia tubes are NOT like other piping systems. Read it again. NOT THE SAME. Experience with item, fluid and energy pipes will not help you as much as you seem to think.
There are reasons why simply copying and pasting a schematic into your world will not work. I shall now list them:
1. Item and Block IDs will almost certainly be different. So the screenshots show essentia tubes, yet in your world it may become a mass of, for example, Arcane Stone and Mana Beans.
2. Specific details, such as the connections between essentia tubes, or the types of essentia already in the system, if any, may not necessarily carry over perfectly, so you would have to go around through the whole system and check it out for problems, which you most likely would NOT be able to do, since you just popped it down from a schematic. If you build it yourself, there's a better chance you'll know how to fix problems yourself. Although in this case, that may also be unlikely.
3. It may interact with nearby blocks in unwanted ways, unless placed in an isolated area, and you seem to have everything fairly close together, judging from those screenshots.
Two more personal notes:
It's ESSENTIA, not essence.
Golems are one of the best things ever, don't diss them.
I love using golems; animating raw materials to become useful workers seems very magical to me - I don't get how others say golems are not 'magic'.
Thaumcraft, imho, is a mod that takes patience, needs trial and error - but for me that's part of the fun. Struggling to get something right, it's very satisfying when you finally do, even if you've had to come here for help.
Thaumcraft, again imho, is not a mod for rushing through - each step needs to be ingested and understood before moving on to the next step. It's exceptionally well designed that way.
I like the challenge of Thaumcraft - I've only just scratched the surface so far and am looking forward to the upcoming trials and frustrations.
You just can't rush it, and sometimes there are no quick solutions, you have to work at it, is what I'm trying to say to some of the above posters.

the piping does not make sense for someone who not yet understand it.
its just not as simple, as connecting a fluiduct to a tank. but at the same time, its exactly what makes it interesting and deep. thaumcraft pipe setups have a higher learning curve than most other mod systems. but in exchange, you can build more complex and awesome structures.
most automation setups dont require you to dive deep into the way the piping works. its just a matter of hooking up one line of essentia to one input of a machine.
and for more complex tasks, like essentia sorting, golems are simple to handle and do a fine job. even if theyre not as fast as a esentia sorter built with pipes.
so if youre stuck with the pipes, you can try to make crossover builds between pipes and golems connected to the jars. they can help to move essentia from a buffer reservoir/jar more easy and space efficient than the pipes.
Also,
heres one of 3 diffrent chests i have, with all my essentia, hand
hauled from alembics, over several HOURS to infuse my items and craft my
gear. I have the tubes, pipes, and the rest of my resivoirs in another
chest while i try and figure out how to set everything up, since no one
will actually help.
i would recommend trying to test a setup in a creative world, before you invest the resources and time to make the components in your real game, and then realize it doesnt work the way you imagined.
try to read the thaumonomicon entries carefully. they explain how the negative pressure system works. you can probably also find tutorial videons on youtube, i you look around a little bit.
May I ask why activating the Eldritch research tab requires that you research "research duplication"? That makes no sense. I had been trying to get there, had researched literally everything *else* in all the regular Thaumcraft tabs, including all Forbidden Magic, and I had also created one piece of every Forbidden Magic item except for that ghostly faceplate, so I was pretty much maxed out on Warp achievable by research and reasonable crafting alone. Still no Eldritch tab. Then I researched literally the last item in the non-addon section of the Thaumonomicon, namely research duplication, and poof, there was the Eldritch tab.
I'm finding this rather unintuitive to say the least. Why should your ability to do this Eldritch research, of all things, really, depend on your ability to share your research with others? Or is it the new rule that you need to research everything *and* have a specific level of Warp for the Eldrith research to become available?
As for another topic: the question of the infusion altar stabilizers that came up a few pages ago: I've been using a mix of regular zombie and creeper heads under the altar with great success. The stabilizers must not be more than 5 blocks below the runic matrix though, so I've placed them under only one block level of floor. They must also be arranged symmetrically around the center of the altar. In my experience, a 15x15 area of zombie and creeper heads in any mix should be enough for everything except the Awakened tools from TTKami or similar items from addons. At least, instability has never been a concern at all with this setup, except when I crafted the Awakened tools.
You are mistaken - you don't need duplication for anything. I never ever take it anymore. All you need for the tab is a bit of warp, time, and luck.
So, it was a random event that I unlocked the Eldritch tab just as I completed that research? The only unusual event I had in the few minutes between my previous check and my realization that it was unlocked was some warp effect that created a black border effect in my view for about ten seconds. I guess that was the visual indication that something unusual had happened. Hmm....I read that the discovery had more drastic effects, but maybe that was an old version.
So I was playing a Thaumcraft craft based world with Automagy and really enjoying it. My goal was to really explore what I could do with out other mods because I find when using mod packs I draw away to curtain parts of some modes and never really try dig deep to understand all of any one mode. Thaumcraft is my favorite so of course I started there. Usually I end up with tinkers construct tools and thermal expansion item sorting but by forcing Thaumcraft I was able to learn the joys of it gear and finally figure out how to really use essentia tubes. There is one thing I really do miss though... the Mattock from Tinker's construct. I know Foci make wands/staffs universal tools but they take time to switch and a surprise creeper needs an immediate response, as well as there being no foci for tilling soil, but mostly it good have a second option for a multi-tool.
I could carry a second wand/staff for a quick change but I like the idea of a less version of the axe, shovel, hoe, and sword combine.
My idea is to combine all Four items in an infusion with 4 void ingots and some appropriate essentia to make a maddock that auto repairs with vis but is not enchant-able and has lesser abilities off all.
1. I would suggest a +5 for standard physical damage and +5 magical* that would bypass armor making it max damage value of +10 noticeably less than the max of the Sword of the Zephyr and The Void Sword which can both do +13.25 damage and have other enchants like Fire Aspect, Smite, Knockback, and looting which the Maddock can't have, but still make it useful against any foe in emergencies.
2. Right click would guard like a sword and even employ a minor reduction in blast damage and projectile damage about 25% that of the Sword of the Zephyr (without the lift effect), an item vacuum about 2 blocks to each side of the player (way less then the Axe of the Stream but just enough to help get those items that fell in the whole or corner just out of the players reach), it would till if pointed at dirt, and act as bonemeal on if pointed at normal crops but at 4 times the durability loss of the Hoe of Growth.
3. Left click would would attack, chop wood, and dig at the speed of un-enchanted diamond but would act as silk touch on ice, gravel, and clay.
4. Shift+right clicking the ground would fill any "enderman holes"** within a 20 block radius of the player with dirt from inventory. Not quite as useful as the Shovel of the Earthmover on large scale jobs but for very annoy job its great!
*While none of the items are ignis based it would be cool if the +5 magical damage that bypass is armor was based on Fire so that Fire resistance potions (-2.5 per level) and Fire Protection (-1 per level) would apply against this "special damage". This would make it a poor choice for a Nether backup weapon.
**Enderman holes being any empty spot where a blocks are on 5 of 6 sides and at least one of them is dirt. Unfortunately it does not help with holes in sand.
Wow, guess what I found on the wiki, posted by an anonymous contributor (the threats are creepy, I know):
At the bottom of the Advanced Golems thaumonomicon page, it says "You are sure the malevolent intent in their eyes is just your imagination". Well look what I found in the list of things golems can say:
golemblurb.1.text=Master, should I remove everything from this container, or something specific?
golemblurb.2.text=Master, do you want me to pick up something specific or continue picking up everything?
golemblurb.3.text=??
golemblurb.4.text=I will protect this area, Master.
golemblurb.5.text=Shall I gather all liquids, or just those you specify? Just show me a container with the liquid and I will do your bidding!
golemblurb.6.text=??
golemblurb.7.text=??
golemblurb.8.text=Do you wish me to use this item on a block or only on an empty location?
golemblurb.10.text=Point me in the right direction, Master, and I will keep everything organized.
golemthreat.0.text=What golem uprising? I don't know anything about a golem uprising.
golemthreat.1.text=Let me guess, you want me to carry something?
golemthreat.2.text=Mwu ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
golemthreat.3.text=Don't worry, I'm definitely not plotting nothing.
golemthreat.4.text=Why don't you go take a nap? You look sleepy. So very sleepy.

i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.

I use this kind of setup. It surrounds my infusion altar or is "connected" to it using essentia mirrors.

Thanks man. saved my ass
finally, someone who posted a simplified blueprint with an explination on how it works, now i can finally build my tube system
Wow, guess what I found on the wiki, posted by an anonymous contributor (the threats are creepy, I know):

24 hours gone again, wasted in futility, welcome to minecraft modding, that is (unfortunately) our community.
(an ode to minecraft modding)
i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.
