My girlfriend and I are both having an issue with Minecraft freezing after installing TC4, enjoying the mod so far just wish I didn't have to close my game every 30 or so minutes
my only issue is discovery of aspects is SOOO labor intensive, when you literally guessing just starting off (the starting set of primals empty REALLY fast and if you empty out before you manage to research the deconstruction table, your screwed, and thats after scanning all you can starting out)
so other then the fact that you can dead wall your progress in the mod, the research itself is a REALLY nice rework (once you understand it)
so in the mods current state, it is NOT user friendly for new worlds (even vet TC3 players are gonna have issues with aspect discovery, esspecially when the Thaumonomicon offers so little on the way of an explaination for aspects and their discovery)
my 2 cents, set the deconstruction table to be available at the start so players cant be stopped by lack of aspects for research
that or make it easier to research said deconstruction table
^this is needed BADLY due to the fact that if you havent researched the decon table and your out of research points, your done
Gather 7 of each crystal. Use one of each for the Thaumometer, the rest for shards. Place the shards near the research table. Bammo, free (but slow) primal aspects.
What I hate is I keep getting advanced research I can't complete. What else does the paving stone of travel need other than Terra?
OK, I have three types of iron nuggets listed in NEI but only two types are shown as useable in the Iron Cap recipe. And guess which of the three types I get when I convert an iron ingot to iron nuggets. If you guessed one of the ones shown in the recipe, you'd be wrong.
Anyone have any ideas which mods might be adding the extra type? I have gone through the config files but I can't find one that shows the item id for the errant nugget.
Something I've discovered with research is that its never a good Idea to remove ALL the red herring runes. Runes will always link to each other before going to a node. Using a bad rune to block them can create more optimal lines.

(6:50:00 AM) Simon-v: How do you live in a world where Everything's Trying To Kill You?
(6:50:23 AM) xander_morhaime: Briefly.
Or, at the other end, is Tinkerer's Construct. This lets you make tools, with perfect reliability, that outperform almost anything you can get from an anvil+books, that never wear out. It effectively obsoletes the entire vanilla tool+enchantment system. And you have access to it and what it can do right around the point of having iron-quality items (heck, even stone-level tools are better than vanilla stone tools). And on top of that, it doubles your ore production.
Two mods that change the game experience; one without being over powered, the other very OP.
good.
the vanilla tool/enchantment system is bad. additional grind doesnt add depth or challenge. it just distracts from the important parts of the game. building, and adventuring.
twilight forest doesnt add more powerful tools, weapons and utility items than vanilla. but it makes them more accessible. ironwood armor is always enchanted upon crafting. its also so common, that you will practically never be without enchanted armor, without having to grind for xp levels. this in itself circumvents the vanilla enchanting mechanic.
charms of keeping and health reduce the danger of enemy mobs, by letting you keep your stuff upon death.
hollow hills make valuable resources very accessible. you have to fight yor way through them, but the point is, you know where to look and dont have to stripmine for hours to get them.
thaumcraft keeps a challenge, by balancing out item abilities with their armor. for example, boots of the traveler are powerful. but they only grant half a point of armor. robes of the thaumaturge grant a vis discount, which makes your wands more powerful. they also make vanilla zombies a lot more dangerous, since youre running around with something comparable to leather armor.
its also adds fun and challenging crafting mechanics (infusion altar) to create those items. and it adds taint, flux and its own mobs and dungeons as additional challenge.
there is a lot by way of automization in thaumcraft. but this is a good thing. because at a certain point it simply reduces the grind aspect of the game, which simply isnt fun or challenging after you reach iron level. and lets be honest here. it comes nowhere near as close as to the tech mods.
even an arcane bore, equipped with a fully enchanted excavation focus, and pickaxe of the core is not even as powerful as a mining well. much less a quarry or turtles.
OK, I have three types of iron nuggets listed in NEI but only two types are shown as useable in the Iron Cap recipe. And guess which of the three types I get when I convert an iron ingot to iron nuggets. If you guessed one of the ones shown in the recipe, you'd be wrong.

I was having the same problem and discovered it was Tinkers Construct for me. Dont know how to get rid of those nuggets. Thank God for NEI.
Im trying to get the goggles of revealing, So far only one element has activated runes. Looking at it I see a small group of runes that only number to 3, Same goes for my other goggle research papers. This makes me think theres a second element that I have yet to discover.
Basicly what I need to know is, is there 2 active elems for the goggles or just the one and Iv been unlucky in my research to keep getting unsolvable papers.
I wasted ALOT of research points trying to finish basic research and magic fabric before I read that some papers are incompletely. Now I'm really hesitant to try and discover any new elements, as theres a good chance its just the research papers are defective.

I tip my hat to you azanor, thaumcraft from its humble beginings to its current amazing state, you have made one of the best mods minecraft will ever see. Keep up the good work , here have a cold ham sandwich for your hard work ----->| |

I suspect there is more to the world than you notice. Look around. This is just vanilla, if you are running mods I won't even TRY to list how many different things you could have.
I've seen a couple posts from folks asking about Entropy shards, and I also can't find any. I remember watching Direwolf20's Forge server episode where he also had trouble finding them. Azanor said the distribution should be the same, but I'm really starting to wonder if it is. I started a fresh world today and played for about six hours. Here are the numbers of shards I've found and collected in that time:
Air = 13
Earth = 16
Fire = 34
Water = 24
Order = 22
Entropy = 0
If the distribution is actually correct, should they be this hard to find?
Having a problem with incomplete research notes. I've started shock foci and have found 2 of the aspects that are used. Still seem to be missing one as the diagram won't complete (and I have tried moving things around).
I took the research note out of the research table and put it in a chest to work on later. Came back, and now am unable to turn off the two aspects I had already found to move them. Have tried the same thing on other research and now am completely unable to complete any other wand foci than fire. Any ideas? So far I've tried logging out and back in, completely exiting the game, and deleting the research note (does on good as far as I can tell).

That sounds like a bit of a bug. Do note that you can generate new researches without completing the old ones. Which can help since sometimes a research CAN be impossible.
Now you're thinking with portals. I figured out I could do this, spent 10 minutes trying different possible ways to place the mirrors and create loops.
