@Dragnier, look up here: http://project.rootdir.org/minecraft/Thaumcraft/6.1/FixedThaumcraft-beta-11.zip
Download, unpack, shutdown your game.
Open the Thaumcraft JAR in your mods/ directory with any capable ZIP archiver and inject the assets directory from my ZIP.
It contains fixed research keys for five problem research objectives. (Cheat the advanced focus to get past the auromancy infusion craft.)
I did this and while it fixed the display in the book, it did not let me actually complete the research.
Man... you guys are all having fun with 1.12, but I'm still stuck on trying to load a level with mods and 1.12. I know how to install mods and forge and set it up, but I just can't load a level in 1.12. I can't create one.
Side note:
what if there was a mechanism that opened a "gate" between the Overworld (or Nether, End, etc. Any dimension) and where aura comes from?
I don't remember the lore very well, but iirc, the aura is seeping out from another place, or plane, but that may have been lore from 1.7.
The gate's purpose would be to let aura flow in for a short amount of time and permanently increase the aura limit. Or, on the flip side, you can leave the gate open as long as you'd like, but the longer you keep the gate open, the higher the chance there will be of taint/flux forming.
Any thoughts?
I could just post this in the thaumcraft/suggestions git, but I feel like there would be more discussion if I posted here.
Hey i'm using Thaumcraft 1.7.10 4.2.3.5 i know its not supported anymore but can someone help me or find where the problem resides with this crash?
it happens when looking at ferrous ingots from thermal foundation and aluminum ingots from tconstruct but it doesnt happen always like sometimes aspects are shown sometimes it screws up.

Do you mean your having trouble making a world? The most common reason for this is not enough memory allocated. Modded MC 1.12.2 requires a larger amount than normal. Try allocating at least 4G.

Cyclic recipe is when you get one thing, turn it into another and then suddenly convert it back via another recipe.
Thaumcraft has a procedure to assign aspects to unknown items based on their crafting reagents. But the procedure uses an unchecked recursion and prone to stack overflows.

Butting in to confirm this, 67 mods on a 1.12.2 world and I go up to 3.5 GB often, have it set to 4-6 Gb and it's kind of OK. However (!) the default JVM arguments in the launcher cause out of memory errors regardless of how much memory I allocate, and this isn't related to any mods (something to do with the default JVM arguments and the G1GC collector...)
On a related note if anyone in here is good with optimizing JVM arguments please let me know.

First question: is your OS 64 bit? 32 bit systems can't handle memory over 3G. If your system is 64 bit, also install 64 bit Java.
Also, do not allocate more than half your system RAM to MC. Example: if you allocated 4G to MC, make sure to have 8G system RAM.
Hope this helps.

I'm on 64-bit Win7 and your second line helps delay the issue, but however long I play, after a while MC crashes out with an Out of Memory error. I have 16 gb but anything from 4 to 12 gb ends up with OOM, it does happen faster if I increase the amount of memory which didn't make sense at first but does now.
I changed the garbage collector to incremental to test and it actually doesn't crash out even after hours. BUT... I lost 15-25 FPS where I was sitting between 30 and 60 with G1GC. Which is why, if anyone has recent JVM options I can try out, I'd love them... (It didn't matter as much before I added TC6 into the pack but with it I'm on the lower end of that FPS range. Not blaming TC though.)

What I'm getting right now is "Exception in server tick loop".
I've googled it, but haven't found a solution (yet)
Also, yeah, I noticed the increase in RAM needed. Hopefully by 1.15 (if that becomes a thing) we'll still be able to play without buying lots of RAM...
I have 6 allocated out of 12, but 2 is used by the system, so I *could* allocate like 8.5, but that would be ridiculous, and I don't think it would even make a difference.
I just read something about chickenchunks causing problems.
I'll fill you in soon.
if i remember right you need to set yourself on fire for the base research in Auromancy. Or did it actually change?
What was your original question?
I did this and while it fixed the display in the book, it did not let me actually complete the research.

Did you collect correct crystals?
I've completed all the research just fine.
Remove cyclic recipes or assign aspect values to problematic items.
Thing is i don't know what is the cyclic recipe, maybe is it mimicry? how do i give something aspects? thanks for the answer
There is a Thaumcraft Aspects mod in 1.7 specifically for adding aspects to things that don't have them.
You mean modtweaker? i think that one has a script to add aspects

Unless there's no dedicated mods that adding aspects. Using ModTweaker could be way too late for crash protection.

@majestyc2k1 this is the error I cut out from the crash log:
net.minecraft.world.storage.SaveHandlerMP cannot be cast to net.minecraft.world.storage.SaveHandler
codechicken multipart is also mentioned in the main part of the report.
