Knowledge Fragments provide extra research points if needed.
How does that work in TC5?
Each research note contains its own progress - so if I have multiple research notes active but consume a knowledge fragment, which one would it help?
Plus, the average player can expect to find, perhaps zero to as many as nil knowledge fragments in the early game where you are typically levelling Thaumcraft.

(6:50:23 AM) xander_morhaime: Briefly.
Since i can't seem to edit my own post, I'll add further details. While infusing, I found I was short some Potentia, so I ran inside, made some more, ran back and it proceeded to alternate between sucking 1 Potentia and 1 Auram till I as out of Potentia. I also noticed two of my Salis mundus were missing and one was on the ground. I suspected they got zapped while i was making Potentia so I ran inside, made two more Salis Mundus and was making more Potentia when the screen turned purple and it crashed.

Proper bugs should be posted to the github repository linked on the original post.
In terms of recovering your world
* restore from a backup - you do back your world up before every play session ESPECIALLY when playing with a beta version of Forge with beta mods - a combination known to be rife with world terminating bugs?
Otherwise
* Backup what you have.
* Upgrade to Thaumcraft 5.1.4 - perhaps it is a known bug that was fixed already.
* Delete level.dat and try enter the game. This will allow you to log in if the crash is caused by an invalid held item. The cost being you loose your character, and world-gen will be iffy when you travel as the seed will be different.
* If it still crashes, then your character is good, but the region files contain a bad thing. I don't frankly know if McEdit can actually edit modded worlds without trashing them badly, but if you are desperate enough to try, download and master McEdit to delete the pedestal under the matrix that presumably contains the corrupt item.
* Otherwise, keep the level.dat file, but delete the region folder. This will regenerate your world with the same map, but allow your character to retain his held items and TC skill progression.
Lastly: - start making backups. Try aroma backup if it has been ported to 1.8.9
Well this inability to scan the Glyphed Stone and get the last research, despite it glowing with golden questionmarks is really getting to me guys :c If there is some way to just open a file and set "Revelations in the Outer Lands" to researched, I'd appreciate it. Very strange bug - keeps happening on new worlds too when I mess around with creative..the block seems to want to be scanned, always, but never gives anything for it.
EDIT: This might sound like cheating, but it seems the alternative now is to load a world in creative and use the cheater's Thaumonomican - filling out the Eldritch tab, for whatever reason, is impossible due to the unscannable block. Btw, the "Glyphed Stone" is the scannable block inside the outerlands maze/dungeons that looks like it has writing on it. It appears fairly frequently in corridors, and some rooms contain many of them.
Same happened to me (the question marks not being scan-able) but, as i am a bit of a cheat as well, i looked some stuff up and as it turns out, you need to scan more stuff for the outer lands revelation. If i remember correctly, you need to scan some mobs, some blocks and also the boss in order to get the entry. I did that, got the entry and in think the glyph question marks risappeared as well after that.
Azanor, I have one question. Why the new research system? I thought the whole point of the research in thaumcraft 4 was to be creative and mess around with a bunch of different aspects to get your research. And will there be any way in the future to change it back to the way thaumcraft 4 was? Like a config option maybe? Thanks.
A problem with the old system was how long it took to research stuff and also the hazard of running out of aspects. Sure, you could have bookshelves and clusters, but waiting and agonizing over research was a real PITA.
It may be too late for this world, but in future I recommend using FTBUtilities for regular automatic world backup.
Or just a Batch macro. Nobody should need a mod for something like this.
set ocd=%CD%
set dir=DIRECTORY
set folder=FOLDER
set count=0
set exit=0
cd %dir%
:countloop
if exist "%folder%(%count%).zip" ( set /A count=%count%+1 ) else (
set exit=1
)
if %exit%==1 goto p2
goto countloop
:p2
7z a "%folder%(%count%).zip" "%folder%"
cd %ocd%
Replace DIRECTORY with your saves directory, FOLDER with the name of your world and if you have 7zip installed you're done. just run it whenever you wanna backup.
Dose every single post of yours in this thread really need to mention the fact that TC5 lacks reservoirs? There's likely a good reason for reservoirs not making a return. It could be needing a new model, difficulty trying to re-implement it in 1.8 or some other reason. Begging for it to make a return like a spoiled kid isn't really going to accomplish anything other then annoy people.
I will try to be more subtle about my references to essentia reservoirs if it really bothers you that much. For the record, you are the only person who has voiced complaint about my comments. And, I'm not trying to get essentia reservoirs back in the game, I'm just trying to make a point that there needs to be way to store essentia other than phials and jars. But having the reservoir wouldn't hurt.

I wouldn't mind having it back either. Just don't make such a big deal out of it.

I hope someday there's more magic in Minecraft, though I know it's not likely to happen. In the meantime, I play modded a lot. I enjoy a lot of other games too, so don't expect me to be on the forums all the time.
How does that work in TC5?

Have Knowledge Fragments in your inventory when your using the Table. A Fragment will appear on the Table and if you click it, it will provide research points.

"We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
I really tried to find a jungle biome but after 3 evenings (irl) running around the edges of warm biomes (deserts pp) to find a jungle I will soon just give it up in my current world.
Making cocoa mandatory for a harvest seal is not a good idea without a thaumic Biome Finder
Found many nice things in chests of spawners and such but no cocoa...
I recommend Botania, get to nether, get blaze rod and transmute yourself a cocoa seed (make jungle wood same way and plant 1st cocoa seed on it)
even tried Biome Finder but it does not work with 1.8.9 (or I am doing it wrong). "cannot read level.dat" and no jungle when entered my seed and checked the given coords ingame...
just for info, "me not mad"(tm), I totally love the new TC5 but it needs some tweeks I think
ps.: ofc I will continue my quest for the jungle on my map even if I have to craft the holy hand grenate of antioch myself

I can vouch that MCEdit works in modded worlds, it just can't display textures for mod blocks. Now if only it had the ability to select by just entering coordinates...
A sort of sentry obylisks, akin to a beamos of the zelda games. is that a possibility with the mod or would it fit to the idea of the mod?
I don't know what a beamos is, but are you familiar with autocasters?

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!
Hey guys I just wanted to toss this out to the comunity while its still fresh in my mind!
Thaumcraft has resently gotten alot more damaging to the world with taint being fairly easy to accumulate if you are wreckless, new, not paying attention, or like me just unlucky... you can have a full blown uncontrollable taint spread that can consume everything before you can contain it.
Arua Manipulation may be a great way to suck the evil out of the air... Get totems that pull taint to a central location that you have prepared with things that can handle the taint. My working theroy is working the taint into a single chunk that has a few Silverwood trees that have pure nodes in them. Im pretty sure the trees will filter out the taint from the air and a bunch of etheral blooms might help buffer the area so that the taint doesnt get free.
This is of course a very high cost high luck design but The idea is sound (and now i just need to figure out how to find a taint shard)
If you are not using another Terrain generator, like BoP, ATG or Highlands, you can view this world's biomes in Amidst, using vanilla (unmodded), the same Minecraft version and the same seed as input. If you find a jungle there, it is highly likely that your world will have a jungle at the same location.

Why not skip the totem middleman and just plant the silverwoods? Isn't your flux generally pretty localized around its sources already?

So I was making some Charged Thaumium Caps and this happened. World is 100% broken, crashing on load.

Otherwise
* Backup what you have.
Try aroma backup if it has been ported to 1.8.9
Same happened to me (the question marks not being scan-able) but, as i am a bit of a cheat as well, i looked some stuff up and as it turns out, you need to scan more stuff for the outer lands revelation. If i remember correctly, you need to scan some mobs, some blocks and also the boss in order to get the entry. I did that, got the entry and in think the glyph question marks risappeared as well after that.
A problem with the old system was how long it took to research stuff and also the hazard of running out of aspects. Sure, you could have bookshelves and clusters, but waiting and agonizing over research was a real PITA.
@MCFUser65300
It may be too late for this world, but in future I recommend using FTBUtilities for regular automatic world backup.
Or just a Batch macro. Nobody should need a mod for something like this.
Replace DIRECTORY with your saves directory, FOLDER with the name of your world and if you have 7zip installed you're done. just run it whenever you wanna backup.
I made a D flip-flop!
Just ran into my first "crimson portal". Is this going to be our intro to fast travel?!?!?!
=D
Are we going to learn the secrets crimson travel? Man I hope so.
Have Knowledge Fragments in your inventory when your using the Table. A Fragment will appear on the Table and if you click it, it will provide research points.
"We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
A sort of sentry obylisks, akin to a beamos of the zelda games. is that a possibility with the mod or would it fit to the idea of the mod?
We all are.
I there a Biome finder that works with 1.8.9?
There is a foci-using turret in the current version.
I can vouch that MCEdit works in modded worlds, it just can't display textures for mod blocks. Now if only it had the ability to select by just entering coordinates...
I don't know what a beamos is, but are you familiar with autocasters?
There are crossbow turrets and wand focus turrets.
This is of course a very high cost high luck design but The idea is sound (and now i just need to figure out how to find a taint shard)
nice tool! tyvm for the hint!
Why not skip the totem middleman and just plant the silverwoods? Isn't your flux generally pretty localized around its sources already?
