I really hate the fact that potions don't stack. I always throw them out of the inventory when trading with Pech. This in turn causes a strange crash when I go through the loot pile afterwards to sort out whatever I might want to keep and sending it through the magic hand mirror. The pech I just traded with is usually still nearby at this point, and I think it's the AI conflicting between wanting to pick up the potions that causes the crash.
I managed to get the Pech curse focus, but found the thing to be pretty much useless even fully enchanted. It takes two hits to kill a cow, and even after weakening a regular mob, it still takes three hits with my lightning focus to kill it. So far the only cool thing I've discovered about it is the particle effect.
Wand of nine hells is also pretty useless compared to the cost of using it. Aggroing a hellbat in the nether is just annoying as it just obstruct my vision with the fire effect, but it dies if I just look angrily at it, and I imagine the regular mobs feel just the same way about the bats I send after them.
How about there being a bigger version of the bat that deals more damage and has more health, and this particular bat was what the wand summoned, only that there was a delay between each time we could cast it to balance things out?
That's another thing, casting delay. I feel the useless foci could be given a considerable boost in damage and efficiency if they had a delay.
What I also miss is a focus that could be charged, sort of like the bow. For instance a fireball focus that with a single click would just send out a small projectile, but after a charge period of about 5 seconds would send out a massive fireball that would explode on impact.

Fire - semi slow moving explosive fireball (longer range than original, uses more vis, delay of 3 seconds per full charge use)
Lightning - instantly summons a lightning bolt from the sky (longer range than original, uses more vis, delay of 2 seconds per full charge use)
Frost - raise an icicle from the ground at target destination (uses more vis than original, delay of 2 seconds per full charge use)
Excavation - a blast that destroys blocks in a cone shaped area in front of the user (Same range as regular pick axe, uses more vis than the original, delay of 2 seconds per full charge use. Using this focus in the Arcane bore will dig a much wider tunnel, but consume perdito at twice the rate of the original)
Mirror Magic is researched, I can see the recipe in the Thaumonomicon. It is not disabled in Thaumcraft.cfg There is enough vis in the wand. Why can't I craft the mirrored glass?

Hey Azanor, I have a really weird glitch/bug no crash just a glitch/bug. It started after I tried and failed to scan Greatwood leaves now whenever I look at them they change into Silverwood leaves and revert back to Greatwood leaves at about the same tickrate as despawing leaves but only as I don't look at them. Heres a screenie:
When you kill a monster they drop tiny "orbs"(not the experience one), what are those? I can't scan them.. it says something along the line of "thaumcraft.aspectOrb" every mobs drop them and they vary in colors. I can never seem to pick them up and they vanish after a few seconds?
Aspect orbs, they are charging your wand with 1 aspect each, if youre carrying one which isnt full.
The pech's curse focus is far from useless. Ever been hit by one of those things? It will randomly give the target a weakness effect, slow effect or a really bad poision effect. This is the main use of this focus, to greatly weaken the target not just direct damage. This focus is better used on a boss mob (can can be poisioned) or pvp.
A bigger bat would defeat the point of the focus. With bats having their small hitbox this makes them extremely annoying. I feel that the point of this focus is a distraction. But again, it'd be more useful in pvp or fighting a boss mob. Although now and then it's good to have a "projectile" that follows it's target.
I do think it'd be neat for a tier 2 focus that had a charge up effect. I remember Azanor was talking about a shotgun like effect for the ice focus once. I think that would be a neat way to implement that as well as make the foci even more unique.

Is there any way to move your research progress and points to a new world? Because I'm using a large biomes world and after spending hours searching and not finding a magical forest, I'm starting to regret that choice, but I've made a lot of progress and I don't want to start over.
if there is anything about research, that should be changed, its that players can just power through it, then make the strongest items (thaumium golems over iron, skipping greatwood wands to get to obsiadian cores with gold caps etc.) available.
generally, research is in a good place. the minigame is more fun over the item sink, and there are enough ways to aquire research points.
the only thing i would change is an additional requirement for research. players can only research up to a certain point. then they have to fulfill a special task to advance in the research tree.
you have different tiers of research in each category. like golems for example. tier 1 research would allow you to research the different golem types, cores and the upgrades. but you cant advance in research for golems, until you have crafted at least 1 golem of each type and scanned it with the thaumometer. maybe something else, like finding a vanilla iron golem and scanning it.
from there, you can research and craft their advanced versions. then there might be some special requirement to be able to craft advanced golems. maybe you have to craft and scan a brain in the jar first, or unlock some type of lost knowledge. maybe thaumcraft dungeons could have some kind of object, that has to be scanned with the thaumometer, to unlock the advanced golem research.
and the final tier for golems could be gargoyles. flying versions of the basic golems. but before they can be researched, you have to fulfill something even more difficult. like finding a specific research from knowledge fragments.
or lets take infusion crafting. maybe one of the thaumcraft dungeons could have a broken infusion altar as part of its generation. before you can research the infusion matrix, you have to find and scan one of the destroyed altars in dungeons.
the inernal furnace could require to scan a blaze.
before you can capture nodes in jars, you have to scan one of each type of node etc, or just a general amount of nodes.

Known 4.0.2 bug. Just looking at a block is also a form of scanning. The crash happens when you do that with nether portal blocks, monster spawners and a few other things. It's fixed in 4.0.3.

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!
I would like for an Infusion Brewery to be implemented. It would produce potions at the cost of Essentia. For example, Awkward Potion = Water Bottle + Praecantatio; Healing Potion = Awkward Potion + Praecantatio + Sano. I bet this would be especially useful for splash potions and would be a great earlier-game alternative to brewing stands which are such a pain to get due to needing to have found a nether fortress.
I would also like for an Infusion Beacon. It would produce various effects within its zone at the cost of different mixtures of Essentia, such as potion effects for correspondant aspects+praecantatio, villager zombification/purification for exanimus+ordo/sano+ordo, wither effect for perditio+death, plant-growth speed increase for herba+tempus, etc. Wouldn't require a nether star because it's not free like the vanilla beacon. It would be an awesome alternative to beacons without replacing them; I hardly ever get to use beacons because of the nether star cost.
The Strange Tale of the Pech at the Pond An open letter to TheFlyingBanana, upon reading his latest diary entry.
I have fan fiction!
I haven't actually managed to trade enough with the pech yet to learn the differences between them, I just keep getting attacked by zombies. Maybe now I've finally dug a tunnel through Mt. Intheway I can get resources over to the forest and build a trading post.
i'm experirncing massive lag each time i'm going in a magic forest.
Perhaps this need to be optimized ?
Stay a while in the forest and wait. Its probably the leaf decay that happens after the magical forest is generated the first time. Wait for about 10 minutes, then the lag should go.
Two things,
I am getting the greatwood leaves to silverwood leaves bug,and I do have railcraft.
however I think my railcraft.cfg is correct
it says
I:block.hidden=0
which I believe is correct.
also what is a Pech?

The greatwood to silverwood thing is from NEI tooltips.
A pech is a small creature, prob'ly one of the fair folk given their thieving and generally irritating ways. They're found in magical biomes. The thauminomicon has more information on them.
im new to thaumcraft and i know you need shards and sticks and gold nuggets i have more then 1 of each shard many sticks and many gold nuggets but when i put them into the crafting table (in the corect order ) nothing happens.... i cant get a wand please help
Your first wand is made with iron nuggets not gold. 5 Iron nugguts in an upside down "U" shape = Iron Cap. then Cap- Stick - Cap at a diagonal = iron capped wand. Use the wand by right clicking a bookshelf to get a thaumonicon and then read it to go from there.

It's better to ask a stupid question than not knowing the answer.

I would like to know that too... I miss using Optifine. The world looks so much better with it and it loads way faster.
NEI Highlight tooltips. Turn them off.
Aspect orbs, they are charging your wand with 1 aspect each, if youre carrying one which isnt full.
One item per scroll is hardly item sink. Just a limiter to spamming scrolls too much.
And TC4 has item sink already in a form of uncrafting table.
I think that would be a neat way to implement that as well as make the foci even more unique.
generally, research is in a good place. the minigame is more fun over the item sink, and there are enough ways to aquire research points.
the only thing i would change is an additional requirement for research. players can only research up to a certain point. then they have to fulfill a special task to advance in the research tree.
you have different tiers of research in each category. like golems for example. tier 1 research would allow you to research the different golem types, cores and the upgrades. but you cant advance in research for golems, until you have crafted at least 1 golem of each type and scanned it with the thaumometer. maybe something else, like finding a vanilla iron golem and scanning it.
from there, you can research and craft their advanced versions. then there might be some special requirement to be able to craft advanced golems. maybe you have to craft and scan a brain in the jar first, or unlock some type of lost knowledge. maybe thaumcraft dungeons could have some kind of object, that has to be scanned with the thaumometer, to unlock the advanced golem research.
and the final tier for golems could be gargoyles. flying versions of the basic golems. but before they can be researched, you have to fulfill something even more difficult. like finding a specific research from knowledge fragments.
or lets take infusion crafting. maybe one of the thaumcraft dungeons could have a broken infusion altar as part of its generation. before you can research the infusion matrix, you have to find and scan one of the destroyed altars in dungeons.
the inernal furnace could require to scan a blaze.
before you can capture nodes in jars, you have to scan one of each type of node etc, or just a general amount of nodes.
Known 4.0.2 bug. Just looking at a block is also a form of scanning. The crash happens when you do that with nether portal blocks, monster spawners and a few other things. It's fixed in 4.0.3.
I have fan fiction!
I haven't actually managed to trade enough with the pech yet to learn the differences between them, I just keep getting attacked by zombies. Maybe now I've finally dug a tunnel through Mt. Intheway I can get resources over to the forest and build a trading post.
Perhaps this need to be optimized ?
Minecraft without Thaumcraft is like a pizza without cheese, tasteless !!!
Stay a while in the forest and wait. Its probably the leaf decay that happens after the magical forest is generated the first time. Wait for about 10 minutes, then the lag should go.
I am getting the greatwood leaves to silverwood leaves bug,and I do have railcraft.
however I think my railcraft.cfg is correct
it says
I:block.hidden=0
which I believe is correct.
also what is a Pech?

Very exciting.
The greatwood to silverwood thing is from NEI tooltips.
A pech is a small creature, prob'ly one of the fair folk given their thieving and generally irritating ways. They're found in magical biomes. The thauminomicon has more information on them.
