I have all the visible research opened. I would like to have arcane bore, but still missing in thaumonicon. I already have golemancy (only hungry chest).
I haven´t too spa research.
What have I to do? I have to scan something??? Exist some list of things which need to be scaned?
In Thaumonicon are listed all aspects - does it means that for each aspect exist one thing for scaning?
Dispenser was good tip, but still nothing happened.
I'm not positive but I think you need to scan
a dispenser and a bow
to unlock the second branch of golemancy.
Also, does anyone know if Glyphed Stone can be used for anything? It has those floating question marks around it but scanning it doesn't reveal anything.
I really think the new Thaumometer scanning mechanic needs work. I am enjoying Thaumcraft 5 a lot, but there are two new dynamics that are making scanning un-fun for me.
Mainly, it used to be obvious what you'd already scanned, because you could see its aspects. You could tell when you'd checked something off the list. Not so in Thaumcraft 5 -- I have no idea what I might have neglected to scan, and no idea what research branches are locked, so I don't even have clues about what kind of things to scan to unlock the research that I don't know what it is! It's all very opaque.
The methodical approach of TC4 was frankly awful when starting a new instance. It took soooo much scanning to get a proper start. But this approach is actually less fun, because it's all failure! Mostly, when you scan something, you get nothing, even the first time. It doesn't even get ticked off a list. You'll probably scan it five more times just to make sure you scanned it once! Constant failure, no clear direction, few rewards -- I guess it's kind of like science that way...
If I could clearly tell what I'd already scanned, that would help. If I could get clues to what I still needed to scan, that would help a lot. Maybe this could play into the currently-purposeless Research Fragments? Could they reveal (but not unlock) unrevealed branches? Or suggest objects to scan? If the floating question marks disappeared when you'd scanned their item, that would even be something.
The scanning system needs more direction and/or communication, IMO, but I'm having a great time. Research puzzles are too easy, though. Maybe take some aspects away for some researches? Or penalize using the same compounds over and over? Take half the evil from scanning and add it to research notes and we're set.
Much of the issues with the current scanning system could be resolved if using knowledge fragments gave you a hint toward things you might want to scan, for example if you haven't scanned a bow it might throw up a message with "weapons" and a second attempt "projectile" as you're trying to interpret fragments of knowledge otherwise unavailable to you.
Sounds pretty neat actually. "The shred mentions something about a magically enhanced version of a common weapon..."
Sounds like a lot of work too, though.
I'm more concerned about the Aura and how it works, making nodes and growing them through silverwood seems too much of a chore for the payoff (and they require constant maintenance) basically just making the player put up a thaumcraft base in the nether with all their instruments that drain vis and produce flux like the furnace, saving the aura around their base for wand usage, and just running a distance away from their base to do crafting as it often requires huge amounts of vis.
I think it would be a problem, if pure nodes and pure/normal node hybrids persisted, not sure if they do. Pure nodes get somewhat broken by taint after a while.
Even with all the tools and gadgets, tracking and understanding the flow of vis in the aura is very difficult until you invest an absurd amount of resources in doing so, and the only result is monitoring the flow of vis, it doesn't really let you do much, you'd need to invest far more to get to THAT point. The economics of the mod just seem entirely "off" though this conclusion may be up to my limited observation of how the aura is changing around my base.
It's thaumaturgy.
Another thing I notice is that enchanting foci uses the old model where it takes an extremely high number of levels (and honestly, vis) to enchant the foci, when armor and weapons enchantments takes three levels and some lapis, and a foci upgrade with very limited effect takes a full 30, something isn't right.
It actually makes perfect sense, because the focus upgrades leave you in complete control.
Many people want the infusion enchantments back for that very reason. I in particular want a magical book that can accept Thaumcraft enchantments, because it is currently impossible to selectively get Repair on your tools.
I hope next updates the Artifacts has new stuff, because I see kinda boring have the 4 same tools. i know there others stuff that replace that, but I hope upgrade to the tools and new tools.

Are you saying that it's currently impossible to get an enchanted book with repair or haste on it in survival? Because I've been able to get both of those on enchanted books.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.

Huh?
Strange. I knew that the books exist in theory, but them being obtainable in survival means that they can be applied to mundane tools.
Also can anybody tell me if Thaumcraft messes with the frequency of Lightning duruing a thunderstorm?
In a new world I am currently getting up to 3 per second. I don't think Thaumcraft did this, but on the wiki it says that normal would be one per minute...
Can't see any major flux releases other than whatever the Crimson cultists there are trying to do(Propably not opening the eye, they suck at that) and from the cave I am stuck in I wouldn't see much anyway.

I'm just wondering.
those are just taint explosions. they don't damage blocks. they just spawn flux goo.
lower the vitium aura in the area to stop them.

I've been wondering what the Crimson Cult has been trying to do. They're channeling the node of an eldritch obelisk, yet nothing seems to happen other than the spawning of knights. Wonder what would happen if I put eldritch eyes into the base while they're channeling? In creative, mind you, so they don't attack me.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
What happened to the /tc aspect command? I know most people wouldn't use it, but i use it in creative mode to give myself all the aspects i need to practice researching stuff. Is there another way, other than scanning the world, to give yourself research points in creative?

We are totally misunderstanding Oculis Apertis. It's actually that opening the inner eye, lifting the veil in the mind is a synonymous for smoking vis.

Read through the research section in the book. You no longer need to scan things because when you make a research note ti comes with primal aspects to use to finish the note.

Research doesn't work that way anymore in TC5. The player doesn't have their own stocks of research points, but each research note comes with its own ample supply. Scanning stuff still unlocks various topics, and pages, and such (I'm still not sure what "Practical Knowledge of <Aspect>" means) but not everything will get you a hint.

I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
In order to expand the golemancy tab:
Scan a dispenser and/or a piston
I'm not positive but I think you need to scan
a dispenser and a bow

did you scan an iron/snow golem yet?
