Just a heads up - I upgraded from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3 and lost all my research. And I mean literally all - even the basic stuff like the aspects directory and such now prompts me to equip scribing tools and paper to unlock the research.
I don't know if this is a known issue or not, I've not had Thaumcraft installed since the early days of v4. I just thought I'd mention in the off chance that I'm helping someone prevent experiencing the same. If there are known fixes - I'd be very interested right now >.<
I just installed optifine hd d5 for 1.8 and when i started playingi noticed a couple of graphical glitches. can anyone help me?
If you're using optifine then you better get used to this kind of stuff to happening. Optifine is notorious for causing graphical issues with other mods.

Well Well azanor you've really outdid yourself yet again and thanks for the sneak peak into the golems, I hope you don't mind my curiosity but what do you have planed for the api code to assist with the creation of unique addon content for the seals/golems ?
If i were to be specific ~ would it be possible to create uniquely modeled golems that would function as normal?
1. Wand recharge: that is a research bonus in Thaumaturgy
2. You already know most of the aspects, you don't need to "find" them anymore
3. I suspect your using WAILA for 1.8, it will cause some visual glitches

Update: I managed to fix my problem by setting research to xp levels only in the config file and then going into creative mode ingame.
Hmm... Golem reworks eh? I'm not going to lie; the changes to nodes and taint are a bit... Well, more than a bit irritating but this looks interesting. In TC4 I actually used those buggers a lot; their sight range isn't all that impressive but I still managed to find them useful for just about anything, and fun to experiment with (considering I constructed the craziest guard golem known to man completely by accident).
There's some things I find them useful for, and some things less so. And sometimes a golem just seems to get a wild bug up its ... nether, and goes haring off into the wild blue yonder for who knows what reason, and you go to where it's supposed to be and ... "OK, where did that nutball golem disappear to THIS time?"

Honestly, I've tried Optifine on several different occasions over the years, and while a few times it has worked very well when it's worked, I think my overall experience with it is that it causes more problems than it solves unless you're playing close to pure vanilla with few if any mods.
I just finished watching the Golem overhaul video and man, is that cool! Now that tasks are things in the world that golems defer to, rather than each one being programmed, I'll be curious to see how their functionalities are affected by their various models and upgrades. Between this new system (programmed seals) and the various turrets, and who -knows- what else might crop up, Golemancy is on a fun track.
Maybe I should finally learn Java this time around. .
P.S. I always love an excuse for fancy render magic. Love that sort of Celtic knot thing that boundary boxes have going on in TC.
If I can make a suggestion for how golems end up looking, how about an ordinary (if slightly smaller) block, with four legs made from the vertical edges cut out of the block?
When inactive, the golem would 'park' and look like a small block, but when needed it would stand up and walk like a spider or something.

Dodge through it right, golems ignore you. Step into a defense seal's area though... The sound of thousands of golems suddenly shifting and rising from their rest...
Hmm ever since i downloaded Thaumcraft 5 for 1.8, after downloading the 1.8 forge, the game just starts a white screen while playing the music. I've tried this on both my pc and laptop and it's still happening so i know I'm doing something wrong haha Does anyone know why this is? thanks
You have to download the latest forge instead of the recomended one.

Make sure to use Forge .1521 at the minimum. Not the recommended version.

Thaumic roombas. I'd use them just to suck up cobblestone I don't want when hollowing out new rooms. x'DD
New update looks cool, as well as the golem progress.

So a cubic version of a flask/hand/plug robonoid? Nice, maybe some of the golems' code could be reworked into a robonoid for a Steven Universe mod.
