I'm rather eager to see how this all turns out. It's all well and good guessing for the damaging foci, but what about the less obvious ones? How could you upgrade the focus of equal trade? Or the portable hole? Or the warding focus? Potency and Frugal are givens, but will they have unique upgrades?
QUESTIONS ABOUND.
I would bet on the warding focus having at least one upgrade that causes it to deal 'recoil' damage to players that attempt to mine it, or let the warded block record the last player that attempted to break it. Portable hole I'm thinking a portable hole based projectile that creates the regular cast effect at the impact site. For equal trade? Perhaps we'll get something that takes and deposits the swapped materials from your ender inventory or a bound chest rather than your normal inventory. Perhaps we could also get something that lets it function like a replacement for a builder's wand as an alternate function, to make it the ultimate builder's tool.

Yo dawg, I heard you liked mining diamonds with diamonds so we put diamonds in your mine so you can mine with your diamonds while you mine your diamonds.
I'd still like to see a Focus of Light, that spreads Glimmers of Light. Naturally, they should fade quickly if a player (or the caster in particular?) isn't close by, but it would still be useful for dealing with caves and ravines.
Also a tractor/pressor -- weak version would be a quick pull or push similar to Knockback. A strong version could act somewhat like a lead. OP version would affect blocks similarly to a piston....
I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
I think it would be a good idea to re-implement the void fortress armor(But still keep the Void robes), because it seems like it would be a teir-ed thing, since the void thaumaturge robes are an upgrade to the base thaumaturge robes, and since Fortress Armor is an upgrade to regular thaumium armor. But anyway, that's just my two cents on that

I'm cool with a nuclear taint bomb. Actually, I've been thinking that taint based weaponry would be really cool; kinda like the foggernaut from Wakfu. As far as jet boots are concerned, though, thaumic exploration has me covered.

Is Thaumcraft 4.2.1.4 compatible with Thaumcraft 4.1.1.14 Worlds ?
Yes. You have to remove all placed essentia buffers before updating, though. The buffers got updated and have a new tag and somewhere in between 4.2.1.3 and 4.2.1.4 a bug snuck in that does not assign default values to the tag when querried. Don't worry if you miss one, you can edit the old buffers' tile entities with an nbt editor later on.
