What non-gold item gives Lucrum? I want to transmute some gold, but it requires 1 Lucrum and a gold nugget to get 3 gold nuggets.
But so far only gold bars seem to have Lucrum, and things made from gold bars.
So if I started with 1 gold nugget and 1 gold bar, then started to transmutate I end up with 5 nuggets and 0 gold bars. Not exactly the direction I want to go.

If you mean blank essentia phials, they seem to be a bug that occurs if you completely empty an alembic with a phial. To avoid getting them, drain the alembic into a warded jar before taking the essentia.
If you mean essentia phials in general, they're simply a pure form of an aspect... handy if you only want one aspect from an object and the others would just break down in the cauldron.
And just to confirm... Harvest and lumberjack golem range appears to be extremely short at present, is this intended?
It is intended - it even says so in their research. They are fairly powerful golems so the limited range is a way to balance them a bit. If you want massive farms you are going to need to have multiple golems.
Thanks.
Btw, is the crusible bugged? i cant seem to be able to make alumentum.
Yyes it is, but I already have it fixed in my dev version. Certain arcane and infusion recipes were also impossible (like mirror glass), but that is fixed as well.
Azanor this may have been mentioned before but have you thought about making the new alembics horizontal off the block instead of vertical. This would get rid of the rather annoying clipping of jars plus would allow the golems to be less cheaty (in terms of there is no way they could empty those top jars really), just a thought.....
They will remain vertical, but in a future update I will be actually removing their "snout" for super secret reasons (and thus their ability to directly refill jars).
After hearing an explanation by a friend about thaumcraft 4's re-implimentation of taint, I have a major concerns primarly with taint. Right now, I am still mulling over of how best to express my concerns, but I figured I would at least post what I have down so far.
Primarly, I am worried about the fact that the SMP version of thaumcraft will create a good deal of lag, just like flowing lava. Based on people replies, I feel taint mechanic is conceptually similar to the instability mechanic. Because thaumcraft itentionally obuscates ways of dealing with taint and flux, taint feels literally like a rehash of Myst's instability and decay especially of More Decays add on to myscraft (http://binarymage.com/wiki/doku.php?id=mods:more_decays). People on SMP severs dreaded Myscrtaft instability not just because of worlds crashing, but because of lag created as the instability spreads. In fact, the lag was the bigger issue. I really don't think we need another myscraft instability problem.
While personally, I had a challenge just completing thaumcraft while dealing with lowering flux, I can understand how more dedicated fans of thaumcraft are bored and want a challenge. However, I don't want a taint that could potentially make the game more laggy then it already can be from other mods.
Two points:
1) Taint spread can be turned off
2) Taint spread uses almost exactly the same mechanic that dirt uses to turn into grass and is thus VERY lightweight. Obviously it does a bit more, but it is worlds better then taint spread in TC2.
Ooh, now that's appealing. If the logs are anything to go by, they'll be that lovely honey colour. And what better way to mark your status as a thaumaturge than to live in a house made of magical trees?
This is beyond ridiculous. I've sat about 2 hours on this stupid frikking research of obsidian wand core. These stupid runes don't want to form a birdge, and I haven't got points to spent to activate and deactivate nonstop. The aspect points necessary are always a frikking rarity. "Go explore.." How much more can I go to explore? Been exploring about 10 hours just for aspects nodes. They're rare, but they're there.
This research system is the absolute utter garbage. I get that the old system in TC3 was too easy. People maxed out stuff in matter of hours. But now, sitting hours on end on one single piece of garbage research? Really? Gimme a break. When I play a game, I want to play a game for entertainment not work. When I go to work I earn a paycheck not frustration.
I found this system cool and easy you will have to activate and deactivate runes a few times some times so you can move them since you cant move active runes and that can be a pain but overall this system is so much better then the old research methods. It makes you think some and thats good.
Hey, first of all I want express my never ending love for this mod! It's so great. <3 But I was wondering if there was a quicker way to stack up on research points for the primal aspects? Having to wait for them to regenerate on the research table is a , expesically when you get stuck on a particular research note.
Also, link to the new wiki? It's not popping up on google yet.
either, you hit one thats impossible to solve (sometimes you get those, though its rare with the latest version), or you didnt do it right. have you tried blocking the glowing runes pathes with other runes, so they are forced to connect differently?
if you get the research masteries first, you will safe yourself a lot of points. especially since you dont have to spend points to deactivate glowing runes anymore and they are movable, while they are activated.
are your runes connected into one straight direction, or are you branching out into 2 different directions somewhere? maybe it would help, if you showed the unedited version of the research notes, and where your source node is.
and if you find yourself running out of research points, you can gain extra points by placing crystal clusters near your table. you can also just throw items into the deconstruction table, if you have the research for it.
May I suggest you move the last 2 runes in your line up one space.
You dont seem to be optimizing the diagonal distance. At most you can have 1 space between runes/nodes, this includes diagonals.
so something like;
o | □ | □
□ | □ | □
□ | □ | ﺧ
Will connect a bridge.
Also try using inactive runes to block loopback paths.

"I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong."
Probably the most key thing I learned while doing research is to spend some time working out whether the puzzle is possible before you actually attempt it. Once you have all the aspects figured out, it's just a matter of calculating the shortest path between nodes. And since the number of active symbols doesn't change between research notes, you don't need to activate them again before working out whether a new instance is possible.
Also, you really shouldn't need to be scanning aura nodes... there's more than enough aspects to be found in blocks and items. Anything made in thaumcraft tends to be a veritable bounty of research points, so make and then scan anything you've discovered.

I haven't got a problem with challenges, I've got a problem with Azanor artificially starving me of points to invest, forcing me to go explore even further out of the world. My save currently is about 600mb, that's just the world explored so far. If I'm not mistaken, from my "base" I've explored about +/- 8000 blocks in each direction for nodes. I haven't even begun building a base, just some basics and a TC4 building.
This is a new world btw, and yes even then I activated the retrogen for nodes.
Thinking, and making good choices are good. Exploring is all fine and dandy, being artifically starved of points just for the sake of it is not.
how many points did you blow on research?
i literally have yet to run into a problem with gaining research points. ive got about 150 of every primal aspect in my table, and i have about half the research done.
ive placed crystal clusters and mob skulls at my table, and all the aspects are glowing, which means they will always generate at least 1 point.
even if you run out, then you can still throw stacks of cobble, or rotten flesh into the deconstruction table. you dont even HAVE to explore, to get points.
it just seems like you have been exceptionally wasteful.
i think the most common mistake is, that people are aimlessly combining aspects to discover all of them. the best way, to discover new aspects is by scanning things.
when you dont get further, you try around and combine, until you get one or 2 new aspects and then you resume scanning.
i literally have yet to run into a problem with gaining research points. ive got about 150 of every primal aspect in my table, and i have about half the research done.
Adding to this, I've finished all research with the exception of a couple of lost knowledge, and have well in excess of 100 for the primals, as well as a dozen or more for most compounds. This is without having ever having gone looking for aura nodes specifically (Though obviously scanning if I find them).
Scan everything. Make things and scan them. If you don't know an aspect, scan things until you find it. If I recall, there's only two aspects in the game that can't be discovered by scanning, one of which the recipe is handed directly to you, and the other isn't used in any research.
Research is actually easy once you understand how it works. If anything I think it might be too easy. Oftentimes I am able to finish a research using only one aspect and can save my more expensive aspects for later. Also the deconstruction table will provide you with a ridiculous number of primary aspects so there's really no worry at all about running out. (Honestly I think the deconstruction table needs a nerf). I think it's important to realize that just because you haven't figured it out yet doesn't mean it's too hard.
What I'm currently having trouble with is my gather golem won't put items in the chest. He just sits there and holds them. I tried using the golem bell and there's a wobbely glowey line connecting him to the chest but he still sits there stupidly and does nothing.
If I could specify my paving stone of warding to allow golems through but not animals that would make great "golem gates" so my golems could gather and transport produce without letting my chickens and baby animals out of there pens.
Early on you do tend to waste alot of research points trying to find new aspects to finish out research, I cant even begin to tell you how much I wasted trying to find the second aspect on my goggles of revealing. If you already know, or look up what all the aspects are, how to get them and which research needs what, then you shouldnt have a problem. but playing "legit" aka blind, you will quickly run your research well dry even while scanning everything in the world.
Getting an unsolvable research early before you learn to deduce if it is indeed solvable will also reck your research stock.
If your lucky enough to get the deconstruction table, that would help a lot. Sadly I didn't.
Exploring with out the goggles of revealing for nodes isnt really a possibility either, the thaumometer doesn't have a very large scope, then the aspects of the leaves and other things covering up the center of it doesn't help. Most of my early research was wand bases, so crafting thaumcraft items for points wasnt much of a posability.
All in all, its easy with a bit of bad luck to spend all your research points and have no way to get more other than using the buffer points from the crystal clusters. At the time I hated it, now that im past it I dont mind so much. And thanks to having to manually combine aspects as opposed to getting them through scanning I now have alot of the combinations memorized and will be able to blaze through it when I start a new game.

That reminds me, I've quite often found one of my gather golems just holding an item he's picked up and running back and forth on the spot. When I picked him up and replaced him, he ran straight back to the same spot and kept doing it.

Ah, whoops. It does indeed mention their small range. Guess I shouldn't just skim-read the tome of great arcane wisdom, huh?
Thank you for that!
That was in Thaumcraft 3, but I've noticed I can't spawn them with villager spawn eggs... I want to! D:

how many points did you blow on research?
i literally have yet to run into a problem with gaining research points. ive got about 150 of every primal aspect in my table, and i have about half the research done.
ive placed crystal clusters and mob skulls at my table, and all the aspects are glowing, which means they will always generate at least 1 point.
even if you run out, then you can still throw stacks of cobble, or rotten flesh into the deconstruction table. you dont even HAVE to explore, to get points.
it just seems like you have been exceptionally wasteful.
i think the most common mistake is, that people are aimlessly combining aspects to discover all of them. the best way, to discover new aspects is by scanning things.
when you dont get further, you try around and combine, until you get one or 2 new aspects and then you resume scanning.
not IF but WHEN... there's already a config for them, not mentioning the arcane door/pressure plate in creative tab
What I'm currently having trouble with is my gather golem won't put items in the chest. He just sits there and holds them. I tried using the golem bell and there's a wobbely glowey line connecting him to the chest but he still sits there stupidly and does nothing.
When you placed the golem, did you put him on the ground or did you place him against the chest?
That reminds me, I've quite often found one of my gather golems just holding an item he's picked up and running back and forth on the spot. When I picked him up and replaced him, he ran straight back to the same spot and kept doing it.
