Actually, Strill should use cobblestone stairs. They don't interact in any of the recipes, and each one is worth 2 perditio, meaning you need to toss fewer stuff into the crucible. Plus, the process of turning cobble into stairs has a net yield of +2 perditio essentia.
On a completely unrelated note, is anyone having problems with the Infernal Furnace "eating" stacks of stuff? I've had a couple occasions where after tossing a few stacks of, say, cobblestone into it, I only get one of the stacks back as smelted smoothstone. This has also happened with logs (identical). Haven't dared to try it with native clusters or anything, don't want to lose my stuff.
It doesn't seem to happen every time though, only some of the time.

This mod is so awesome. Also (joke:) in real life, flux is a variety of colors such as white, black, brown, like green, and orange, but I don't think there is a purple flux. (look up flux for soldering)
I have the feeling this is a bug, but it seems like one, version 4.1.1.14 btw.
I found a baby taint tentacle in a taint biome, killing it caused it to respawn again within seconds. Effectively a farm able mob, and it's rather easy to kill them compared to the big ones as well.

The larger taintacles spawn smaller ones to attack. It's likely you were in the agro range of a taintacle or you hit one while standing on a tainted block. If you stand on a normal, untainted block they can't spawn so you can safely attack them from a far distance.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
Some form of renewability for Shimmerleaf would be nice, but it needs to be expensive!
Would it be unbalancing to make Shimmerleaf a possible Pech trade, perhaps in exchange for an item with 8+ Lucrum?
You can fight taint with Silverwoods, which are renewable but expensive to obtain… both in time and resources.
KeepOnDigging.
I could be wrong, but I think I remember getting a shimmerleaf from a pech trade. It's been a long time since I've traded with them though, or even seen one for that matter.
Also, I'd consider silverwood to be a limited resource. The drop rate isn't high enough to be completely renewable. I suppose it could be renewable with a fortune enchanted tool though. Even then, fighting taint by using silverwood isn't very effective.

Does Magic Bees work with this version of the mod? I was looking into Agrarian skies and I've heard there are new bees with this version of Thaumcraft.
I'd rather trade away a bit of gold for a few saplings... then spend literal days hunting for a few Silverwood trees with a chance that a sapling will drop.
I've been considering why I don't use the thaumostatic harness. My conclusion is that it's because the robe/thaumium chestplate look cooler, but mainly because replacing the fuel cells is tedious. I wonder if it would be possible for the girdle to automatically recharge from bottles in your inventory or in the world?
Instead you'll be praying that a pech gives you one... And that could be worse as you're spending valuable materials for the chance to get one.
The main problem with pech trading isn't the cost of what you offer, it's the fact that the blighters only appear at night, and with the new zombie swarm mechanics you can expect half a dozen of the things to be smacking you about as you try to concentrate.

Lure it into a cage or something and slap a name tag on it. Problem solved.

I can't craft a silverwood wand with thaumium caps. I have the materials in an arcane crafting table and my greatwood+gold wand in the slot, but the recipe doesn't appear to work.

What am I doing wrong?
How much essentia does the greatwood wand have? How much do you need to craft the silverwood wand?

It's vis, not essentia. Vis is the mystical energy emitted by nodes and is stored in wands, staves and scepters. Essentia is the volatile liquid made from breaking down items in an alchemical furnace and is stored in jars and phials. Sorry, people mixing up vis and essentia is a pet peeve of mine.

Could you post a screen shot? I'm assuming you've already got the research seeing as you can't make the silverwood rod without it.

6 cobble = 6 perditio, but 6 cobble = 4 cobble stairs = 8 perditio.

Are they really? In thaumcraft 3, the average drop rate of silverwood saplings was less than one per tree, which made them unsustainable.
You can trade with pechs for saplings now though ;P

They spawn in any biome considered magical. With vanilla + TC4 this is magical forests, eerie biomes and (theoretically) tainted lands.
