Hello everyone this is my first time posting here and want to share my thoughts on the future of this awesome mod.
While I am sad to see wands and staves go, I feel that gauntlets are awesome, more thaumcrafts style and are far less cliched as wands or staves. I also like the Idea that they could pull vis directly from the aura instead of storing it in them. Magical dead zones would be cool and on a sever people could use them to protect themselves from a thaumaturge. However in order for dead zones to be a big deal, vis batteries should be a mid to late game addition and should have their draw backs. One thing that would be cool from a fluff perspective would be to have more like a vis projector creating a field of vis around you for you to draw power from, because thaumaturges are awesome.
Perhaps the gauntlets are more apt for the more technical aspects of magic such as excavation, grappling, equal trade, and maybe some sort of shielding, and the wands could retain usefulness with the more mystical applications of magic such as shock and fire or nine hells that require a more delicate touch than the bulky gauntlets can offer. Maybe gauntlets could borrow the stored vis from your wand if the aura is running low. It'd be totally badass to dual weild your wand with the gauntlet in the offhand, slinging spells with your wand and blocking incoming attacks with the gauntlets.
Will the next update be seeing any changes to the focus system? Perhaps a little more diversity in foci would make it more practical to have both the wand and the gauntlet. Modular foci system, anyone?

While wands are cool, I feel that the idea is a cliche when it comes to magic. I also feel that gauntlets are more thaumcrafty, while you could have them both with different functions, I feel like they would kind of clash theme and flavor. In my opinion wanting them both is remaining attached to wands. Wands are really cool, however it is good to try new things and I feel like having them both just means more work for Azanor.
Is there's anything new after the labyrinth trial?
Always thought that something great should await after it. Some sort of milestone, close to crafting your firs wand in its importance.
You have just passed a trial, connected to the Horrors that no human mind can grasp, so just an eldritch pearl seems rather meh, even with all its uses.

This. So much this. Wands say you're Harry Potter. Gauntlets say you're Iron Man. And if I have the choice of being Harry Potter or Tony Stark, man, it's Stark all the way.
(Well, unless I can, you know, be Wolverine. "Always be yourself. Unless you can be Wolverine. Then always be Wolverine.")

Though wands did make it feel more like a magic mod and not a tech mod.
I always did enjoy that magic/tech mixture, and to be mostly tech would kinda be sad.
Though trust me, I want these gauntlets so bad. lol
I dunno. I like having the wands. Think less wand and more staff. You know who else has a staff? Gandolf. Way better than Harry Potter. Pure gauntlet seems less magicky and more techy.
Yeah, but as TrebliGO7 said it'd make it kinda pure tech.
The magitech would be lost then.
I'd hope far wands to stay, or at least lots of magic elements to stay so you can still feel like a wizard at times.
It's Azanor's mod though so he can do whatever, but I'm just throwing in my two cents.

Ohwait, so if the primordial pearl is kinda like a node as a source of magic, could we make a gauntlet with the paerl that slowly recharges itself.
Wait where would you put the focus them?
Gauntlets will be an interesting change from wands. The changes in Thaumcraft between MC versions are one of my favourite things about TC, they keep it fresh without taking away what draws me to the mod.
@Azanor
You mentioned that you couldn't stop the reequip animation playing.
I assume overriding shouldCauseReequipAnimation() to return false isn't working? It's a Forge method, so it might be worth creating an issue on the Forge repo. Though any fix would be for 1.11.x.

shouldCauseReequipAnimation indeed stops it for most cases. The case here however is any changes to the item while it is "in use" like while a bow is being pulled. That triggers the tick count to be reset to the start and the shouldCauseReequipAnimation is not called for that at all.
There are a few possible workarounds for this problem however, but while looking for those I had a completely different thought: What if a gauntlet was not used to store and manipulate vis, but JUST manipulate it? In other words they vis cost comes directly from the aura and is never stored in the gauntlet at all. If I remember correctly this is how wands worked in TC3.
This does create some interesting possibilities and I do like the idea of the gauntlet actually being required to shape and manipulate vis into the form you need. It also fits with how arcane crafting works now. Hehe, even lore wise it could make sense. Storing vis in wands is the old-school way of doing things. Much better to shape it directly and look cool while doing it.
I very much like the idea of gauntlets draw directly from the aura, though as a sort of thematic suggestion how about staves be simple and gaunlets complex in function,
Example; a staff(ignis) could shoot a gout of fire that burns everything but a gauntlet(ignis) could be used to create burning strings the only seek enemys.
or
a staff(aqua) could create a crude whip of water to slam down on things but gauntlets(aqua) could manipulate the water and create temporary structures like bridges or stairs or maybe "key" to a special lock, or the gauntlets(aqua and ignis) could superheat the water inside things causing them to explode into steam and maybe the steam could make those standing inside it invisible.
or the water gauntlets could weave water and shape it into a sort of reflective shield...
but in all seriousness i like the idea of gauntlets being able to do more complex things while sacrificing raw power,
also just think about this... -----Zeus style lightning bolt throwing-----

With tempestas essentia/vis?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
At first I was a bit pessimistic about losing wands since they, to me at least, represented the mystical side of thaumcraft (magic part of the magitech mod that couldn't be scientifically reasoned with and was just chalked up to mysticism) but the thought of directly manipulating vis with a gauntlet has begun growing on me. It'd be great to see that gauntlets open up the way for a much more varied and extensive spellcasting/focus system, since fine manipulation of the vis in the aura would most likely allow for more complex magic stuffs. Put me down as excited for gauntlets

Unpopular opinion:
The wand trope is dumb and we should stop adhering to it.
Praise be Ro-naza, greatest among the thaumaturges!
Firing things from a narrow device makes sense, however.
I made a D flip-flop!

Which is kind of the point of thaumcraft. Its magitech.

Gauntlets; Grab the magic with both hands!(TM)
Just let us use both. Gauntlet and wands. And not that gauntlet will be any better, just different.
