Sounds chaotic...I love it! After some brainstorming I think it can fit in well with the lore even... Firstly, it doesn't make much sense that essentia let loose on the atmosphere would instantly turn into Vitium. Even better than implementing it would be integrating it into the "Beginning of the universe/magic lore/theory" and give the lore a more complete feel. Unfortunately, poor Azanor's hands will be dead from all the implementations and bugs fixing.

Terra-Dirt falls from sky?
Aqua-tons of rain and random water source blocks

The possibilities are endless! (and so are the bugs)
Area effects on certain things are certainly a possibility, but how about more physical manifestations?
Also I think certain aspects, especially compound ones should in the way they work create/split into other aspects.
Like for instance if you release a large amount of arbor:
The arbor grows into a weird vertical network. Higher up it degrades into Herba and Aer, growing leaves and maybe letting some Arbor/Herba pieces (with Aer) fly around like saplings(except they wouldn't grow...or maybe... Arbor forests!)
Large amounts of ignis could create a column of fire. Hot air flies up, fire shines and thus create Aer, launching blocks of blazing ignis around that shine brightly. At the core maybe creating some potentia or Ira, which could make matters even worse.
Yes I know, Azanor's hands. I'm just saying I really like this idea and if I had the means I would perhaps implement it myself even.

this is the knowledge i need..... then i can fuse together nodes with electrical constructs to spawn a ghost dragon mount out of a vault/vat type chamber thing.

although i could do this with wisps.....

I don't know about "drum", but if you want shamanism and voodoo, you should try Witchery.

Are you making a new mod and asking API-type questions? Because none of that sounds like things that exist...
lol no.... im not making a new mod at all. what im doing is combining the aspects of the mods i have with command blocks that makes a machine that will create ghost dragons out of lightning, wisps, dragon eggs, and possibly a primordial pearl is needed for the machine to activate.
Thaumcraft, Don's Lightning Rod, Dragon Mounts, Electric advantage, Cyano's Wonderful Wands, Gravity Science, and Redstonepaste are the mods I'm doing this with (1.8).
im just looking for a way to detect numbers of nodes for various reasons, such as harvesting nodes for example.
i would like to have lightning spawn nodes in my machine and when it builds up so much it will then do something.
How about this one. Full log included, I entered the Nether and my game will load up to the point where it shows where I am , then the game crashes every time without fail. (Kind of wish I knew how to read these things so I could figure out what was wrong myself.)

haha yeah, not messed too much with it yet, unlocked some of the enchants and stuff.
Just made the collar of pain, and its pretty damn awesome haha.
On another note, what is considered "endgame" for thaumcraft, killed one of the outerlands bosses yesterday, I know theres three more but after that is there other places to go or anything ?
Anything after eldritch epiphany is basically considered end game. You can get to different dungeons in the outerlands by opening different obelisks and each different obelisk will generate a different dungeon. Don't try fighting all the different bosses as they all just drop primordial pearls and the three bosses (crimson portal, eldritch construct, giant taintacle) only appear roughly 25% so the eldritch master guardian appears 75% of the time. After you obtain the void crusher, void thaumaturge robes, and void staff, which are the best equipment in the game, Congratulations! you got to the end of thaumcraft and there's nothing else to do :P.
I'm having a problem with Thaumcraft. I have the latest version. But for some reason, I can't scan multiple things! Such as flowers, oak logs, and dirt. I have all the research I need, but the notifications at the lower right say that nothing can be learned from those items. HELP!
What other add-ons for TC do you have? Better yet, post your mod list on pastebin and post the link to that here. Some mods screw with aspect assignments.
I'm also having similar issues like this. Basic things like stone, stairs, and blocks of coal are saying "Nothing can be learned form this". Using Thaumcraft 4.2.3.5.

The specific add-ons I have for Thaumcraft are "Thaumcraft Mob Aspects" and "Thaumcraft NEI plug-in".
In TC5, the Thaumometer is used to help unlock research. Once you scan something that has ?, you can't scan it again. Not everything provides research hints.
In TC4, the Thaumometer is used to gather research points for the Research Table. It also shows Aspects on items. Not all items provide points or has aspects, even some Vanilla items. Once you scan an item for its points, you can't scan it again, you can only look at its aspects.

Ahem.. also about Golems. I have not advanced in TC5 that much yet, because right now I still have some TC4 to play, but is the "nearby orders" system in yet? Or is it even the final plan?
Because having unspecific golems all pick up a certain tasks defeats the point of specializing golems like most of us like to do.
I've never done much golemancy, so I'm a bit late with that now.
I'm not sure if this is a bug. but when smelting tainted items in a void smelter, I'm getting approximately 50% back in vitium, but the full amount in herba using taintwood. I'm currently using 2 aux vent ports, one aux pump, one bellows, and 2 reservoirs. it then passes through 8 pipes and a few reservoirs before reaching it's destination jar if that affects things at all. I've done this with atleast 5 stacks of taintwood and similar results. Is that a normal output if the taintwood log displays 1 herba and 1 vitium as it's aspect?
Also I can understand why complex essentia would cause a chance of flux when evacuated into the aura, but I don't understand how theme wise any of the 6 primal essentia being pushed into the aura would cause flux. Is there more lore to this?

We would be the equivalent of Freedon Nadd or Exar Kun. Both used Sith sorcery, which is arcane in origin, similar to some of the stuff in Thaumcraft or even Blood Magic.

Is there any way to transfer the contents from a jar of essentia to another jar? I didn't immediately notice that Inventory Tweaks had "restocked" my initial empty jar with others from my inventory when I was grabbing essentia from the alembics, so now I have one jar containing a single ignis, another with 2 ignis, and a 3rd with 18 ignis. Is it possible to empty the smaller amounts into the 3rd jar? I tried right-clicking on them with the more full jar, and I tried emptying them back into the alembics so I could re-collect them into the main jar, but neither worked. Any solution?

Looks like this issue is related to Butterflymania, not Thaumcraft.
Anything after eldritch epiphany is basically considered end game. You can get to different dungeons in the outerlands by opening different obelisks and each different obelisk will generate a different dungeon. Don't try fighting all the different bosses as they all just drop primordial pearls and the three bosses (crimson portal, eldritch construct, giant taintacle) only appear roughly 25% so the eldritch master guardian appears 75% of the time. After you obtain the void crusher, void thaumaturge robes, and void staff, which are the best equipment in the game, Congratulations! you got to the end of thaumcraft and there's nothing else to do :P.
Nodes have an int tag named "size" containing the node's amount. The tag "aspect" is a string with the entire aspect name in lowercase..
Make a backup of the world, then try removing Thaumcraft to see if this still happens.

The specific add-ons I have for Thaumcraft are "Thaumcraft Mob Aspects" and "Thaumcraft NEI plug-in".
In TC5, the Thaumometer is used to help unlock research. Once you scan something that has ?, you can't scan it again. Not everything provides research hints.
In TC4, the Thaumometer is used to gather research points for the Research Table. It also shows Aspects on items. Not all items provide points or has aspects, even some Vanilla items. Once you scan an item for its points, you can't scan it again, you can only look at its aspects.

Ahem.. also about Golems. I have not advanced in TC5 that much yet, because right now I still have some TC4 to play, but is the "nearby orders" system in yet? Or is it even the final plan?
Because having unspecific golems all pick up a certain tasks defeats the point of specializing golems like most of us like to do.
I've never done much golemancy, so I'm a bit late with that now.

I'm not sure if this is a bug. but when smelting tainted items in a void smelter, I'm getting approximately 50% back in vitium, but the full amount in herba using taintwood. I'm currently using 2 aux vent ports, one aux pump, one bellows, and 2 reservoirs. it then passes through 8 pipes and a few reservoirs before reaching it's destination jar if that affects things at all. I've done this with atleast 5 stacks of taintwood and similar results. Is that a normal output if the taintwood log displays 1 herba and 1 vitium as it's aspect?
Also I can understand why complex essentia would cause a chance of flux when evacuated into the aura, but I don't understand how theme wise any of the 6 primal essentia being pushed into the aura would cause flux. Is there more lore to this?
We would be the equivalent of Freedon Nadd or Exar Kun. Both used Sith sorcery, which is arcane in origin, similar to some of the stuff in Thaumcraft or even Blood Magic.

Is there any way to transfer the contents from a jar of essentia to another jar? I didn't immediately notice that Inventory Tweaks had "restocked" my initial empty jar with others from my inventory when I was grabbing essentia from the alembics, so now I have one jar containing a single ignis, another with 2 ignis, and a 3rd with 18 ignis. Is it possible to empty the smaller amounts into the 3rd jar? I tried right-clicking on them with the more full jar, and I tried emptying them back into the alembics so I could re-collect them into the main jar, but neither worked. Any solution?
