Ruby - a material found deep underground, Ruby is about as good as Iron equipment
Amethyst - the Diamonds of the Nether, these beautiful gems can mine obsidian but are ranked between Iron and Diamond
Obsidian - a new use for that Obsidian that takes forever to mine! About time! Obsidian equipment is very durable but not very good.Emerald - Emeralds can now be crafted into tools! These rare gems are the only materials better then diamond! The villagers only keep the best materials, of course.
Beyond the Diamond includes new Storage Blocks for all of the new materials as well as brand new ornate blocks in the style of Emerald Blocks
Also included are new kinds of obsidian! Among these are Enchanted Obsidian, Cursed Obsidian, Crying Obsidian, and Glowing Obsidian(from MCPE!)

I would assume because a lot of the really really big mods are tagging back at 1.5.2. like the most stable IC2 possible, EE2, TE, Thaumcraft, etc
