One last comment - not sure if there is anything that can be done about it or not. It seems unintuitive to have to have the backpack in your hand to open it. Since nested backpacks can be opened with a right click, it may feel more natural to be able to right click backpacks in your inventory and have them open - without having to have it selected in your hand.
Again, I don't know if this is a design thing or possibly it's difficult technically.
Really great mod. This mod has been the #1 mod I've been searching for to use with my 1.7.2 game.
Cheers.
That's what the 'BCMod - Open Item' key is for, it opens a version of your inventory that you can right-click your backpacks from.
If you're not using any mods that add extra inventory pages (like Galacticraft's equipment page), or if you just don't use those pages very often, I'd recommend rebinding your inventory key to 'BCMod - Open Item'.
Being able to right-click backpacks from 'vanilla' interfaces would be great, but it would be very difficult to implement and would probably cause problems with other mods, so I think rebinding the inventory key is the easiest and safest solution.
Version 2.3 is now released for 1.6.4 and 1.7.2
- Worlds saved with 1.6.4 - 2.3 are compatible with 1.7.2 - 2.3
- The recipe editor from Balanced Exchange has been moved to BCMod, allowing it to be used as a standalone recipe editor
- The Backpack Auto-Loader add-on allows backpacks to automatically collect items as you pick them up and can replace your tools as they break.
You need both. Backpacks won't work without BCMod and BCMod by itself is just a recipe editor.
BCMod provides the functionality needed by Backpacks and Balanced Exchange, like nested storage, recoverable items and the split interface system.
Backpacks uses that functionality to power its backpacks.
Okay, sorry if I'm missing something obvious here, but I still haven't figured out how to apply the upgrade pouches to the backpacks (the ones that change it from 3x3 to 3x6 to 3x9).

Place a pouch inside your backpack and then right-click on the pouch.
Hi Brad,
I cant create backpacks/pouches. When I lay the last piece (no matter which leather/goldplate/string)
the backpack/pouch wil show in the created box for less then half a second. Like a one time flicker.
Any idea why the symbol does show up but rightaway disappears?
Many tnx in advance...
Sounds like you're playing on a server that doesn't have my mods installed.
If you install my mods on the server it should work.
Can I use Backpacks! and the accompanying mods in a public modpack I'm putting together? I'll keep it up to date and won't make any profit from the download.
Backpacks has been updated to 2.3.1 to correct the recipes for quantum chests and backpack restorers (they had been creating backpack pouches instead).

Love the mod especially the nesting, enlarging, recoloring, renaming functions.
But I am having 1 problem, I can not get the Auto Loader function to work. I open the backpack and press "L" and nothing happens.

It should work with those files.
If you are playing on a server then make sure the server has the auto-loader add-on installed.
If that doesn't work, try rebinding the "Edit Backpack's Auto-Loader" key to a different key and see if that works.

I have already tried deleting and re-installing the mod Backpackloader 1.78.2.jar, and rebinding the "Edit Backpacks Auto-Loader" key in the controls section under options. I play off-line so I am not connected to an on-line server.
If I were to connect to an on-line server how would I "make sure the server has the auto-loader add-on installed"

Whoops, the auto-loader gui was using the same gui system as BCMod's recipe editor, so would only open for players that are 'opped'.
I've re-updated version 2.3.1 (for the 3rd time today) to allow players that aren't opped to use the auto-loader, so if you download the new versions of bcmod, backpacks and backpackloader it will work.
As for your other question, if you were hosting your own server you'd just put my mods in the 'mods' folder on the server, otherwise you'd have to find a server that was using my mods or ask the server host to add my mods.

Hello,
I with my friends are running a server. Actually it's CraftBukkit 1.7.2, but we also tried MCPC+ 1.7.2 and Spigot 1.7.2. All worked fine and all mods were working.
Until now, because we run the server and all mods are working but not the backpacks one. I can make items from other mods and place them everywhere, but I can't make any item from backpacks mod. It's just like DonMiner said - "the backpack/pouch wil show in the created box for less then half a second". There is no reason this mod shouldn't be loaded by server, because it was good before and it wasn't moved out of mods folder.
Can you help me with this? Maybe it's some kind of ID mismatch.. But I don't know how to make it work now.
Please help.
It sounds like the server isn't loading my mods, are you using the same version of Backpacks and BCMod as the server?
Try using the command '/give [yourplayer] backpacks16840:backpack', if that gives you air then the mods are missing on the server.
It does give me air. What is wrong with my game then? I have the mod in mods folder... It worked before and I don't know why.
I don't know of any reasons why it shouldn't be loaded on the server. Can you upload the server log (minecraftserver\logs\fml-server-latest.log) to pastebin.com (preferably within a few minutes of restarting the server so it doesn't get too long).
As per your copyright notice, i feel i should ask this:
I am building my first technic mod pack for a private server. I would like to include this mod in it. I can tell you right now that i hate link monetization or url shorteners and such services will not be used in any part with regards to my server or modpack. Since the modpack will effectively be a "redistribution" of your mod, and not really from minecraft.net, but from dropbox, i would like to ask for your permission to use it.
Thanks for making a backpack mod compatible with 1.7, it may be a relatively small mod, I can't even begin to appreciate the work that's gone into this.

Not at the moment, but I'll add pictures of the other 3 crafting recipes when I get some time.

Loaded
Backpackloader 1.7.2.jar
Backpackrender 1.7.2.jar
Backpacks 1.7.2 - 2.3.0.jar
Bcmod 1.7.2 - 2.3.0.jar

Sure, that's fine.
