the Shadow ghoul or the the shadow horror.
this horror haunting dark forests, but may also appear in swamps or ponds in the dark
she lives 30 points and gives the effect poison 3 for 15s
and you shalt lose 3 life!
infact this creature and a mixture between LURKER the GEIST, the ASPID and zombie!

I was wondering if there was some means of disabling the taming function, mounting function and/or certain mob drops?

Also, you could have custom drops added to monsters if you use the config file, but sorry, no disabling taming or riding.
Also you can use Name Tags to name pets, I figured I'd just go along with the vanilla style of naming, say if you name a tamed Pinky it will become: Paul (Gregorjacks' Pinky)

After I made a new world with the default world type the mod worked fine with the others and the mods mobs spawn as they regularly would(to my knowledge, anyway). Since BoP occasionally(1 in 200 or something) throws in the special biomes in with the usual mix and the ore and gems still spawn according to the biome types, just setting the world to default is one way to work around whatever was happening before.
In other news, I ran out of variations for the name Paul, so I just started eating his kids! Makes you stronger.

Nothing beats a good Pinky Lasagna!
In additional good news, the spawning seems to be fairly fixed now in 1.4.8! It was the Chunk Spawn Limit setting, it linked to a vanilla method that was called something like maxSpawnPerChunk and it doesn't seem to do what it is labelled as, it is multiplied by the weight and max group size or something, a bit weird. So I've removed tat config setting and reverted it all to the vanilla default of 4 which seems to fix anything.
If you're having problems with say Makas, set the Chunk Spawn Limit of everything to 4, it might fix things, at east when generating new chunks.

Interesting concepts, some of the Shadows Mobs will definitely take this approach, especially the Geist.

I'd keep taming and mounting enabled. I don't want to lose my best friend by the name of Jeffrey the Crusk. However, I don't give a poop if Sohala disables taming and mounting. After all, it's his modpack!!!

Those creatures look epic, but if you ask me, one of the coolest (if not THE coolest) evil demon-like monsters is the Wall of Flesh.
It fires lasers from its eyes, has a lethal bite, has a bunch of mini mouths attached to it called "The Hungry", it uses its tongue to lasso you if you're behind it, and it chases you from one side of the underworld to the other....RELENTLESSLY.
Oh, and did I mention that you can't escape? Escaping only rewards you with instadeath; it's kill or be killed.
