You came back from adventuring into your sweet home. Your inventory is full with some leather and golden armor which you found and you have also some rotten flesh. Now what? Wouldn't it be nice if you could uncraft the golden armor to get ingots from it? Or uncraft the useless leather trowsers to get some leather?
Here are the Rotten Recipes wich want to help adventurers.
Every Rotten Recipe aims to give you almost back what initially was put into the item. But as you know, recycling is not a 100% thing. There's some loss.
Be aware, that the default configuration of this mod is "lossy". If you want 100% back, then change this setting in "RottenRecipes.cfg" from true to false:
B:"lossy uncrafting"=false
You'll always get something back. Lossy uncrafting does not count down to zero if you recycle a shovel. You'll receive at least one ingot or whatever.
All images will show the lossy results, as this is the default behaviour.
Book recipes
You can either have the leather or (up to) 3 papers back.
This is old and outdated beginning with version 0.3:
For versions 0.1 - 0.2:
Per default you'll get 1 leather back.
Since a very famous mod has already the shapeless one-book-recipe, we add a stick.
You can decide to have the paper back. Then change this setting in the config file to read "false":
B:"Books to leather"=false
As of version 0.3 the recipe is not shapeless anymore. Depending on the placement of the stick relative to the book, you receive either paper or leather. No need to configure the config file for this anymore.
Idea: mersumies.
Smelting
Golden and iron armor, also chain armor and tools can be processed by a furnace.
Uncrafting
Diamond and leather things can be uncrafted on the workbench.
Rotten flesh to leather
There's already a mod with this name. I used this mod when I didn't mod myself. The idea from EpicBlargh is a very clever one. I didn't use his sources to rewrite this mod, so I think it is okay if I give him credit for this superb idea and implement my own version. If you only want the pure RFTL - function, then use the original mod from EpicBlargh.
As I always used the hardcore mode of the original RFTL, the default config is like so:
B:"easy rotten flesh to leather"=false
Change it to true, if you simply want to put rotten flesh into the furnace to receive your leather.
In the "not easy"-mode, you'll add sugar and bonemeal to the rotten flesh to craft purified flesh. Then you put the purified flesh into the furnace and receive your leather. The purified flesh can be eaten and is less effective than raw porc. You can feed it to wolves. If you play it on easy-mode, then the purified flesh is not available.
Other
Make snowballs from snowblock and strings from wool.
Added in 0.2: Minecart and cauldron.
Added in 0.3: Horse armor
You can also smelt the diamond armor - then you'll get the iron block back.
The horse armores are treated according to this recipes, which do not exist anymore in MineCraft:
Magical Crops is one of my most loved mods which I use. If you use it too and farm your resources you will come to a point where two things happen:
1) You have lots of Nature Essence which you receive when farming
2) You always lack some Weak Magic Essence
With RottenRecipes 0.4 there's a new recipe: (this is outdated with version 0.5!)
This helps to get rid of surplus Nature Essence while gaining some truly needed Weak Magic Essence.
Of course, if you do not have Magical Crops installed, then nothing will happen at this point.
RottenRecipes detects if Magical Crops is there and only if it is there then it reads the magicalcrops.cfg to get the correct item id numbers for the recipe.
Magical Crops is not needed for RottenRecipes to run. RottenRecipes will startup nicely without Magical Crops.
Changed in 0.5:
Same recipe as above, but now you receive a Regular Magic Essence, which is 9 times more.
Version 0.5:
Same as 0.4 but you receive 1 Regular Magic Essence instead.
Version 0.4:
Added Magical Crops support:
Craft 9 Nature Essences into 1 Weak Magic Essence.
Version 0.3:
Bugfixes. Added horse armour, two different recipes for books to leather or to paper.
Version 0.2:
Bugfixes. Added minecart and cauldron.
Version 0.1:
First version.

I (Konitor) am the legal maintainer of this mod at the moment. If the community agrees that I'm gone forever after some weeks of waiting the community may elect a new modder. I don't want anybody to make money from this mod, take parts of the mod and *not* open the new source to everyone.
You should add rails, and iron fences to the reprocessing bit, if you already haven't.
Yes, I will do so for the next update.
Sorry - Minecraft won't let me. The problem is with both:
6 ingots make 16 things. I can only make smelting recipes with 1 thing into a standard furnace. But 1 thing (rail or iron bar) is only worth 0.375 iron ingots. I would have to tell Minecraft that 3 bars is one ingot.
This is not possible at the moment. The "addSmelting()" function only takes the itemId of what is to be processed, the amount is always "one".
Can you make a different recipe for uncrafting book to paper? I don't like to close my minecraft each time I need paper after leather... Because in its current state it would all be like: Uncraft book for leather---->Close minecraft---->Edit .cfg file----->Start up minecraft--->Uncraft book for paper etc.
Yes, I can. Thanks for the hint.
Update to version 0.3: Now with bucket and horse armour.
And with two recipes for either "book to paper" or "book to leather".
Update to version 0.4: Added Magical Crops support.
This gets rid of a situation, where you have stacks of surplus Nature Essence and are in the need of Weak Magic Essence.
With my brand new RottenRecipes 0.4 I crafted my two stacks of Nature Essence into Weak Magic Essence. Before I had made the recipe, my Nature Essence was close to useless (although there are a lot of recipes for it: vines, lilipads, mossy bricks and so on) but then, when I had the result: 14 Weak Magic Essences -> ??Only??
You know, you have to craft them into Regular Magic Essence and than you get two or so.
Wow. I didn't think that this would wound me so deeply. Before, it was useless and now I should be happy to get anything for it but I am not. I think I'll work this over. Maybe to get a Regular Magic Essence from 9 Nature Essences instead of Weak Magic Essence..
Then I think I'd be happy again
Update to version 0.5: Now I like it! Nine Nature Essences result in one Regular Magic Essence. This means that farming is profitable. Even a very cheap coal farm makes sense now because you get lots of Nature Essence.
Bye - I'm going farming now...
Yep. A 172 version is done but not published yet. I wanted to wait until i have tested it on a 172 server but have no server yet since I'm stuck with working sponges.
