Thanks for the reply. I had a brainwave earlier after reading your post on the undertaker. I have noticed they are very prevalent in the Horizons pack, like I can almost always see four or five at any one time. So it occurred to me to check the configs for any spawn options, and I saw the two options to disable them (and their spawning). I set both to false, recreated a world and it was fine. I only stayed in a few minutes, but the memory didn't go over 1704M. I set both back to true and created a new world. The memory is already up to 2555M as I'm typing this. Unfortunately I don't have time at the moment to play around further.
So I think this is indeed undertaker related. If I get time later I will try playing with the spawn rates and see if I can remove as many other mods as possible to narrow down some more.
Hm... Their undertaker spawn rate is probably too low. It shouldn't be as common as you've described.
When you got time try setting it to a bigger value in the config file (such as 1200 which is the default) and test if the memory leak will still happen.
I've been able to play with this a bit more this evening. Looks like the problem is related to the number of undertakers in the world (or rather, loaded chunks).
I set the rate to 1200, and this did appear to slow the rate of increase of memory. However I didn't think it reduced their number by a significant amount, so I upped it to 12000. Each time I'm creating a new world. At 12000 memory usage seems fairly stable. I flew around in creative for 10 minutes and found three chests. The sheer fact I could do this for 10 minutes is a huge improvement.
I guess the chests don't tick, so I'm wondering if there is any custom rendering done. I spammed a load of them in my 12000 world, and immediately the memory starts to go up. Also, my frame rate drops a fair bit when looking at them all. I replaced them with vanilla chests, and the frame rate and memory increase were back to sensible levels.
Anyway, I'm happy with changing the config as a 'fix'. This lets me get on and go back to playing the game with the mod still intact. I hope anyone else who encountered this problem can happily do the same. The default rate of 300 in the FTB pack is, I agree, way too low.
Hm... Yeah chests shouldn't really offer any type of tick lag unless they are open or closing their lids.
So I'm guessing you are right and it's their rendering that isn't very efficient.
I shall have a look at that old piece of code and see if I can improve it in any way
Thank you for your report and for being so helpful
I think this is a REALLY awesome mod that pretty much completes the Nether. I think that It would be really nice to have in my modpack and I was hoping that you would let me add it. I will definitely have a link to the forums and even though it will likely never become a popular pack ( there are so many packs out there) I think me and my friends would love playing with it and at least running around in blaze armor lol. If this is ok please reply, Im not sure if im getting necro but it sounds fun to have.

No need to ask
Feel free to use this on your pack. Hope you enjoy it

It seems you might have found the source of my nether troubles too. I noticed I was losing memory at nearly 50MB a second in the nether but wasn't sure what was doing it.

That's very strange though,
I don't see how the Undertakers could be causing that much lag...
I find it hard to be this mod's fault.
All it does to the nether is to generate random crops and chests around it. The crops are turned off by default so all that could be causing the problem is the chests. But even then... all it does is pick a random position and place a chest there if the conditions meet. I doubt that that would cause any memory problems. I'll report this to Eyamaz and see if he knows the issue.
I have experienced the same issue. I even set up a world with nothing but Gany's Nether installed and the memory leak issue still persisted when going to the Nether. If I run without the mod installed and go to the Nether then it is fine. Just wanted to pass along my experience on this as well.
i just have a comment and a question about the thermal oven you are considering from the surface mod thread. since the only resource that is available in both the overworld and the nether (because of this mod)is cobble i would suggest the recipe use cobble it can be shaped like the bookshelf recipe from biblio craft using six cobble and three cobble slabs instead of the wood.
as for the question are you going to limit it's cecipies to only non metals or are you just going to make it slower?

The recipe would make more sense if it was like you said, only the centre middle slot be empty, as it is a furnace.

Thanks for the recipe :3 I think I might use it
I think I'll just make it slower but allow any smelting recipe
Thanks for reporting the issue MossyTrousers. I've provided the info on the FTB page and added that I've noted it in a test world with only the Magmatic Centrifuge. http://forum.feed-th...a.35242/page-19
Cool mod for sure, but there's something wonky happening with java memory usage here.
Considering that I've player for hours in a row and never encountered this problem... My guess would be:
1- Your video board. AMD does some funny things that Nvidia handles by itself. Might be an issue that only users with AMD video boards are experiencing.
2- OS... I use, and have been using, OSX for a really long time. I have no idea how windows works and it might have problems cleaning its memory on some specific cases
3-Java version... I'm using java 6 (because minecraft is on java 6 it only makes sense to develop mods on that same version). If you guys are using java 7 or above you could run into problems I don't account for.
But I may have found what is causing the issue. Idk why it's causing the issue but I think I've fixed it.
I'll post a test build soon-ish so that you guys can tell me if it worked.

Don't think it's this, I've got Nvidia and still get the memory leaking

It could be java 7 issue. I've always had a bit of a memory leak on a mac with java 7, even when I run no mods and no forge, on whatever version of MC (though developmental versions are usually worse).
I'm using nVidia as well, so it's not an AMD only issue, but I do think perhaps it's a rendering issue of some kind.
I'm on Win 7 and using Java 7 which I think is the recommendation from the FTB team. But yes, both of these are different than your environment.
I'm updating the thread on the FTB site with some other info now too. It could be some odd interaction between mods or something too I suppose.
Your mods are cool btw, so not trying to be mean in any way here. Just trying to help figure out what's going on so I can build more of your stuff. Thanks for all the effort you put into this for the community!

It's okay I know you are trying to help and that's very nice of you
I'm guessing the problem will be java 7 or windows.
But I believe I have fixed it. I have a few additions to make (takes me forever to make textures -___-) and then I'll release an update that will hopefully fix the issue.

Something to do with the random generation? The random bit just taking more and more memory?
