I have stopped working on this mod due to time constraints and the fact there are other mods available to replace its functionality in intuitive ways. If anyone wants to port it, fine by me.
Now, to finish this organization crap and actually code.

Hi! I am back again, and the busy streak of my life appears to be over.. for now, that is. Development is going full steam ahead, and I hope to put out 1.6.4 versions as soon as the changes I would like to make are ready.
15.9.2013
About mod development... I have been pretty busy lately with school IRL, so my modding time has been kinda cut down. However, I am still working, and have added a poll to the topic regarding Enhanced Books. Please take time to submit a vote, as these decisions are pretty crucial in some regards.
6.9.2013
Released a hotfix for More Building Blocks server issues, find it at the releases page.

I has cleaned thread!!! Now, to get off my lazy butt and start coding more than 30 minutes a day . Seriously, though, I have made progress on Enhanced Books v1.8.0. The mod is being re-written nearly from scratch to make things much, much easier for me in the future. Also, that inventory rendering bug that is in the current version? It's gone now.
Also, I haven't forgotten about More Building Blocks, as I am in the process of greatly cleaning up its code.
All of my mods are now licensed under the General Public License v3, which can be found in the thread. Take the time to read this license before doing anything other than playing with the mod.
Now, back to work!!

Info
This mod was actually not mine to begin with- it was originally created by sn0re until mod version 1.6.0. I then decided to port it to Minecraft 1.6.2, and since have been endorsed as primary developer. Anyhow, the aim of the mod is to improve books in Minecraft by giving them more of a use. There are right now two different types of books and a storage shelf to store them in.

The primary aim of this mod is to give more of a choice of blocks to build with in Minecraft. It it started off as a continuation of More Building Blocks (thread found here: http://www.minecraft...locks-mod-v117/ ), but has turned into its own mod with new ideas.

I found a bug that when you get far enough from the bookshelves, when you return the bookshelves will look empty even though its filled with books
Yeah, there have been some problems with the shelf lately. I am looking to re-do the bookshelf for the 1.8 update, so this and other issues with bookshelves should be fixed then.
[Scott]: Things I have managed to get in the last five minutes, in order of ascending importance: cobblestone, planks, lapis lazuli, redstone, gold, coal, diamond. VERY LOST.
Hi this mod looks great, but I play on MC 1.5.2, so I would need a 1.5 version of your mod. Is that possible or not? Very nice mod
The mod was originally written by someone else. Here's the link for their 1.5.2 version.

I'd like to raise the amount of levels books can hold. For a Java noob, how hard would that be? I'm on the 1.5.2 version, by the way. I see in the code the "this.setMaxDamage(50);" part, is it just changing the number to what I want or does it go deeper than that?

Yep, changing that number is all you need to do. I should make that configurable, coming to think about it...

That would make it easier on people like me. XD I decompiled it, edited it, but now can't figure out how to recompile it, may need a different program...
Hi, I must warn you,
Please do not store levels as the durability of the book. Here's the scenario with the idea "damaged items can be repaired":
I created 2 empty (means zero durability) "XP-Infused book". Then I put them into anvil. That gives me an "XP-Infused book" stores 6 level. I cheated somehow. To fix that, please store the experience as another data type. Durability means something different. With this fix, people won't be able to get experience with no effort.
Also, you must show the amount of experience directly (but not level), because experience scaled exponentially with level. In other words, If a book stores 20 level and you're 20 level, if you withdraw all experience from book, you shouldn't be 40 level. Because, going 20 from 19 is much harder than going 2 to 3. It already calculates that experience issue somehow but the user will get wrong information from the book. I hope my English is good enough to explain the case. Thank you for the mod, your effort.

Trying to figure out how to put a certain signature XD
Welp, this just happened- I am right now using a public access computer because the computer I code on is pretty much dead right now. I hope to fix it soon, but since that was my primary computer I am now out of luck :(.

First off, thanks for reporting this, I hadn't really considered how the fact that the XP being stored as damage could fudge things up when it came to anvils.
To fix the first issue, I'll try storing the experience in a different data type as you had said. My first thought was NBT, but I haven't quite decided how it would work yet.
The second problem will definently be fixed as I am in the process of adding the functionality to make the books store individual experience as well as levels. When I finish the gui for it I will post a picture.

^ Just a question, since I don't want my bookshelves to disappear...
Yep, changing that number is all you need to do. I should make that configurable, coming to think about it...
No, it does not, your vanilla bookshelves will be fine.
