Does the 1.7.2 version work on 1.7.10? Or do you have to update it before it works? I would really like to lower the max mobs as the dungeons are spawning way too many mobs, making me lag like crazy. Oh, and will this work for multiplayer?

Check out my adventure modpack! 25+ carefully selected mods (Not counting Core Mods) and great for if you don't have that beefy of a computer. Plus it has over 2K downloads and counting so y'know it's good. Oh, and fully multiplayer compatible!
There's also the resource intensive version (if you can handle it) for a bigger experience!
I noticed that in game the best I could do was limit the pesky arthropods to a min 1 and max 1. So I edited the vanilla.cfg file to make the value 0-0-0. When I logged in there was not a squid to be found but when I logged back out and checked the file it was back to 1-1-1 for the squids. I will have to play a bit more in game to see if the 1-1-1 is enough to stop the crashes.
Davidee,
Is the 1-1-1 the lowest we can set the spawns? Is there a way to get it to hold the 0-0-0?

Hey, thanks for the hard work! I was playing around with mine recently and do you see the enable checkbox? At first I thought it was to enable MSC to control the spawning of the particular mob. On ~6th glance, I checked it and when I was flying around looking for squids, I didn't see any. So unchecking enabled might remove them completely from the particular biome for the particular mob. Let me know if this doesn't make sense!

I tried it and it seems like that worked. I was under the same assumption hat it enabled the mod to change the spawn rate for that area. Sawwweet!
So, for anyone wondering, yes this work in 1.7.10 both in single and multiplayer (LAN and Server). But, pressing F6 to access to GUI while in Minecraft crash the game. You can, however, edit the MSC2 config files manually. David, if you are around, reading this, could you please compile the source you have at GitHub for 1.7.10 and update this thread?
So, I was trying to find an updated version of this mod and quite surprisingly found that there isn't any, even though the source code was updated. Anyway, I spent some time, trying to figure out how to compile mod from source, and it seems my endeavour wasn't in vain. It works for me in Minecraft 1.7.10, so I guess it's safe to safe that mod is updated. You can give it a try-here. Also it would be nice if Davidee could update the thread, so everyone would be able to see this. (I'll also post updated GUILib in corresponding thread)
Is there any chance to have the arbitrary cap of 200 lifted for mobs? The config only seems to let me set monster, animal, ambient, etc to 200 max. It rewrites the integer if I set it over the limit. If I remember correctly, the first version of mob spawn controls allowed for a cap up to 500.

I tried the 1.7.10 version you compiled from the source code and my game still crashed when I pressed F6 to bring up the GUI
Nevermind, I forgot to install the updated GuILib, thank you so much for updating this.
