too bad torches have been useless since changing the brightness was added. can you make just standing inside some gasses suffocate or damage you? this is really impressive and i will be checking up on this mod. as is, i dont really feel like it makes mining any more difficult. i dont see any reason anyone would ever use torches while mining in the first place... maybe give skeletons flame 1 bows at a more common rate and have those do the same thing as torches whenever the skeleton shoots? anyways, looking forward to see what comes of this mod.
also, would it be possible to make some of the gas blocks work like redstone ore? when its walked on it starts emitting a deadly gas. that would be cool but challenging in survival.
Cool. What I always wanted. But I don't know how to download it. Make some gases when near coal give off explode. That what happen in coal mines in china. The coal gas instantly explode when heated coool
isnt this the same as gascraft? Without the bc integration then.
To be honest, I was completely unaware there were other mods that added gases to Minecraft at the time I was developing. I hadn't even done any research to find out. I had a look at GasCraft, and I can tell you that our mods have some similarities.
Both mods add, well, gases. GasCraft has a few more gases than my mod with some more notable features. My mod has much more advanced gas flow mechanics, however (over 200 lines of code!), as well as slightly more sophisticated gas rendering. The main difference is probably that GasCraft has gases which actually have a productive purpose. This is something which is going to change in a future update which is coming eventually. My mod has no actual BuildCraft integration, which I can see is a problem. I might have to get into BuildCraft in case this should be a future feature.
You should add something that can blow the gasses away but it's kind of a harder to craft block and to turn it on you need to bring redstone and a lever
This mod sounds great. Since I'm a Forge user I'll be waiting but the flow mechanics sounds really interesting. Really, I wish water in minecraft flowed so I can't make an entire pool out of 2 buckets of water. lol I think that adding a fan into minecraft to clear the gasses would be useful. Also some thick gasses that could make mobs detection radius decreased so you can sneak passed them would be awesome. It'd also make great Stealth op PVP if you make it multiplayer. Also what you can do is add a condenser to use gasses or put them into your inventory. And you can add a pump to transfer gasses from one room to the next. Also gas masks would be great for miners to wear, of course. Also maybe you could add a gas overlay, like what water in minecraft does to impair your vision underwater. Also gas sprayers(like an exterminator) could be used to stun spiders or players lol Using this you can defend your crops with sprayers, just like pesticide. One other thing is using gasses for rockets ,because rockets rely on the propulsion of ejecting gasses. You can use the rockets to send even more gas into an area! I have a lot of great ideas you can use. I just thought of these in under 5 minutes lol Also, because your obviously a great coder, you could add a coughing animation and sound so a player could tell how bad the gas they're standing in is, and know when to get out of where they are.
Is there any intent on your behalf to implement liquid gases as well as the vapors? And do you intend to add machines to harness these gases, or work with another mod maker to do so?

I assume you mean compressed gas by liquid gas. It is coming eventually, as it will be the only way of carrying gas in the inventory. Machines to harness the gases are also coming.
In the next update, a new danger appears:
You can also expect a solution to the lighting source problem soon.
Glen your could probally get The gas to burn as a feul source and be capturable/producable with forge and the liquad api. TE has floating liquads already and RailCraft has liquad/gas burning machines.
Forge will let you use the build craft liquad api and the forge item and liquad dictorary.
I would love to have a Hydrogen gas that I can poduce using ic2/bc power from this mod using water.
I would also love to have A Bc pump be able to extract the gas and store it in a tank.
A word of the wise Railcraft allready has steam registered in the forge dictonary.
If i were you forge would be the next thing I worked on so I could use the API. Well, I am definitely interested to see where this goes. Perhaps gas-powered lamps and such. Depending on the style you go for, it could fit very well with the steampunk theme I'm going for on my world.
Pretty amazing mod! The flow of gas currently looks a little odd but beside of that well done!
I wonder if there shouldn't be some explosion too beside the fire.
The gas flow system is limited to the same data storage as all the other blocks in Minecraft, where each block of each type can only have 16 different states. This is sort of a limiting factor for the flow of gas. It would probably look better if it were infinite like water, but finite gas supplies is the only option for the way this mod is going to work.
About explosions... Let's put it this way: I don't think you have discovered all the gases yet!

Gas powered lamps? You just predicted the main feature in the next update.
Let's play a little game:
Spot the new feature(s?)!
Ooh, I thught at first that this was similar to some blocks I made in my addon for Mystcraft.
They were all "decay" blocks, which meant that they were self-replicating (varying degrees of "destroy the world") but I had a realy sweet methane gas (along with several fogs, like smog, poison fog, slowing fog, and regular fog).
Then I watched the video. Finite fluid mechanics. Snazzy.
Keep up the good work!
