Thanks for the info, but I did eventually find the modpack.jar file and the version.json file in it as I said in my last messeg, I tried modifyting the .json file. Adding the entry to the lib section had no result. Adding the command line option to minecraft caused the load process to crash halfway through forge load, the liteloader splashscreen would come up briefly first. The liteloader.log file indicates liteloadcer probably loaded, but it didn't stop the modpack load process from crashing directly afterward. I'm not sure what you mean by asking me to add liteloader as iff it were a forge mod, but I did try putting it iin the mods directory instead of mods/1.7.10 and this resulted in a similar crash but without the splashscreen.
I am not going to post the modpack url here as that would constitute making it public, and once it is public I am not going to change the mapping program, but if someone has time to take a look at it, let me know and I'll send you the link in a private message.
Also this forum webpage is killing my browser this morning. Some errant script is eating up all processor cycles, making typing this message extremely hard. I often get two or three lines ahead of what I can see.
Well, we coudln't get it working in time. So the modpack is public with Xaeros's minimap and we're not going to change it and have people lose their waypoints on update. But we still really like voxelmap, so if anyone gets liteloader and voxelmap working with the modpack, feel free to post instructions here and we'll include them on the modpack help page.
Given we already have a series of instructional videos with 40 episodes done, we probably won't be making any changes to the list of mods in the modpack. We don't want to risk our videos turning out to be wrong unless we are forced to. Thaumcraft forces us to use their most recent build if we don't want to get in trouble if people try to report bugs for instance; and that requires updating forge and any mods whose old versions don't work with the new version of forge...it's a big headache if you're trying to get people interested and then stuff you do in your videos they can't do or have to do differently. Because Thaumcraft does that, our modpack launch ended up being delayed by 4 months until all the other mods worked with the new version of Forge and eachother. But we already had videos with Thaumcraft content, so we just had to lump it. If you find a way for liteloader to work with bspkrscore, let us know. On the other hand, I'm not the modpack expert, that's my partner in crime. I just try to fix things when he's too busy to do so. I'll let him know. If it turns out bspkrscore does something not vital or something our series has not yet touched on or is a client-only mod or something, we might be able to remove it. I'll mention it to him.
Looks like bspkrscore is required for treecapitation and there is already a LOT of video of us chopping down trees in one go with 'normal' axes, so we're not in a position to remove it from the pack, unfortunately. But do let us know if you find a way for liteloader to work with bspkrscore! I know it has been done because RainTech Balanced Pack did it. Though that may have been with an old version of bspkrscore and/or liteloader. Unfortunately, RainTech Balanced Pack is no longer available for download, I just have an old copy on my computer that still starts with liteloader and bspkrscore. I'll see what my partner in crime thinks about reverting to an older version of bspkrscore.
I checked and RainTech and Rainbow Robot both use the same version of bspkrsCore (6.16). Just in case I tried using the same actual file that RainTech uses in combination with first the most recent version of liteloader and then the version of liteloader that came with RainTech Balanced pack. Still no dice, the modpack load crashes in exactly the same place as before. This strongly suggests that we are dealing with a different problem than a bspkrsCore conflict. I am not willing to mess with this anymore, though as I said above, we still really think voxelmap is a better substitute for journeymap than Xaeros and if anyone here gets liteloader and voxelmap working with Rainbow Robot, (without removing any other mods that is) we will gladly add a set of instructions for how to do so to the help page for the modpack.
Eventually yes. Mumfrey usually waits for the mappings to settle a bit before updating. He's also been working on 1.8.9, which is available to use now. It is on the jenkins.
Right now, Mumfrey is at GDC, so he might not be around until it ends. I heard he'll be back in 2 weeks.

Am I right in understanding that the liteloader version that works with 1.8.9 is the 1.8.0.0-00-SNAPSHOT on the site? If not, could someone please point out where I should grab it from?
And does liteloader require a certain version of Java?

You could build it from the source, except it's useless for now. None of the litemods work with it yet and updating is not viable since the SDK package isn't complete.
I've already built a mod for it. It's available here. It's a replacement for voxelget in 1.8.x.

I can't find anything on the jenkins that looks like 1.8.9. Everything uploaded says 6 months ago. Can somebody give the direct link, or point it out for me.
Also how will the internal updating work, since I don't have a 1.8.9 profile and liteloader normally has to be installed over an existing profile for that version. It will probably only download the new version, correct?
After searching on the jenkins page again and clicking on 'back to dashboard' I noticed some faint tabs at the top... One of which says 1.8.9.
For anyone else looking. This link goes straight to the jenkins start page for liteloader.
When I install LiteLoader along side Forge for 1.7.10 using MultiMC, the game doesn't launch, it stops at Pre Initialization. How can i fix this? I would like to use Voxel Map.

I recently began modding with LiteLoader 1.8 using mcp910 and Eclipse.
My goal is to make a litemod of an obsolete tiny mod slightly changing the displayed foreground (text) of class GuiScreenHorseInventory.
When I get into it, I can replace the vanilla class file (ex: bft.class) and get the expected result by startclient.bat.
But that's the problem. Minecraft no longer allows manual replacing of vanilla class files.
I know it's not about just a simple inheritance (extends). This is what I've tried:
// Trying to replace GuiScreenHorseInventory with GuiScreenHorseInventoryW
// GuiScreenHorseInventoryW inherits from GuiScreenHorseInventory, with private variables re-defined
@Override
public void onRender() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Minecraft mc = Minecraft.getMinecraft();
// this only offers a defective GUI which destroys any item clicked
mc.displayGuiScreen(new GuiScreenHorseInventoryW(mc.thePlayer.inventory, horseChest, horse));
// this will bring a NullPointerException
//mc.currentScreen = new GuiScreenHorseInventoryW(mc.thePlayer.inventory, horseChest, horse);
}
else{
}
}
}

1. You can't redefine private variables. Your new variables will be visible to your code but the code in the super class will always only see the original ones. Additionally if you only set your ones the originals will still be null when the super class tries to use them.
2.There's a bunch of other stuff that mc.displayGuiScreen does, so it's not surprising that everything breaks if you bypass it and set the currentscreen directly.
What I'd consider the easiest way (since LiteLoader doesn't give you any event to replace guis) that avoids all the 'ifs' is to add a custom event to replace the horse gui as it's opened.
EventHandler class:
[pre]
//Called whenever mc.player.displayGUIHorse is called.
public static void onDisplayGUIHorse(EventInfo e, EntityHorse horse, IInventory horseInventory) {
mc.displayGuiScreen(new GuiScreenHorseInventoryW(e.getSource().inventory, horseInventory, horse));
e.cancel(); //Cancel the original method, to stop it from opening the vanilla gui.
}
[/pre]
events.json:
This is need for liteloader to know about you event. Includes all the obfuscation mappings and stuff for liteloader to build your event.
I'm not active on these forums, so forgive me if I don't respond!

A mod list would've helped earlier. I think the issue is with bspkrscore. It interferes with the main menu or something. Try removing it.

When I get into it, I can replace the vanilla class file (ex: bft.class) and get the expected result by startclient.bat.
But that's the problem. Minecraft no longer allows manual replacing of vanilla class files.
I know it's not about just a simple inheritance (extends). This is what I've tried:
// GuiScreenHorseInventoryW inherits from GuiScreenHorseInventory, with private variables re-defined
@Override
public void onRender() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Minecraft mc = Minecraft.getMinecraft();
if (mc.currentScreen != null && mc.currentScreen instanceof GuiScreenHorseInventory)
{
if(horseChest != null && mc.thePlayer.isRiding()){
// this only offers a defective GUI which destroys any item clicked
mc.displayGuiScreen(new GuiScreenHorseInventoryW(mc.thePlayer.inventory, horseChest, horse));
// this will bring a NullPointerException
//mc.currentScreen = new GuiScreenHorseInventoryW(mc.thePlayer.inventory, horseChest, horse);
}
else{
}
}
}

So, I understand I need to rewrite some complex thing hidden in background for a tiny purpose which had been easy.
But, after hard study of modding tutorials, I still feel confused of what to do. Any suggestions?
I have a problem. With liteloader the game starts perfectly normal but it crashes when loading a save.

What I'd consider the easiest way (since LiteLoader doesn't give you any event to replace guis) that avoids all the 'ifs' is to add a custom event to replace the horse gui as it's opened.
events.json:
In 1.8.9+ this will be a whole lot easier to do though. But not entirely sure how litemods use them, only liteapis.
