Section 3 states "This MOD may only be distributed where uploaded, mirrored, or otherwise linked to by the OWNER solely. All mirrors of this mod must have advance written permission from the OWNER. ANY attempts to make money off of this MOD (selling, selling modified versions, adfly, sharecash, etc.) are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, and the OWNER may claim damages or take other action to rectify the situation."
Which as I have said, means that unless the modpack owner gives us permission, that we can not use it. The verbiage of the copyright said the exact same thing I had, only with a few more worlds. The problem is that the modpack owner hasn't been responding to requests for modpack permissions either in this forum or in Private messages.
A shame that this mod is going to need to be reimplemented from scratch under a better license (well, there's permission to decompile it, so at least we don't have to go full chinese wall).
Curse Wiki seems to think this mod is AGPLv3, which is even more laughable as AGPLv3 really isn't the best choice of license for software that is locally installed - AND a real pain for server operators (because they'll have to post source code somehow, which isn't being made available.)
I don't even understand the point of this - oh hey let's make an API that makes it easier for mod authors to make their mods, but make it a real pain in the butt for them to distribute their software in modpacks, which are how most minecraft modders get their SMP on.

It's no more of a pain than any other mod that requires a permission.
Also, somebody on the FTB forum got a reply from the dev recently clarifying his terms of use. So I have no idea why this whole "it's impossible to get perms for this mod!" rumor persists.
Imho, get over it and ask permission like you do every other mod that asks you to (you do, don't you?), or don't use the mod(s) that requires Animation API as a dependency.
This mod needs a license!! You know what... I'm just gonna use this with ars magica, and if he yells at me for it then ill simply delete it... its that simple guys... he yells at ya you remove it. he doesn't care, then fine. I assume we still need a link to this topic and give full credit to him.

No. His license clearly states, in plain english:
* that you may use/download/install Animation API if you are a single player without restriction.
* that if you plan on redistributing/repackaging his mod, even in a modpack, you must get permission.

it's not a puzzle, people.
it's in the very first post of this thread, right where it says Copyright.
Yes you may use it in your own personal, private modpack.
Yes you may make and distribute a modpack using this mod, providing you follow the rules laid out in section 3 of the copyright.
Why the hell do they have that in the license then if other mods are gonna have actual good licenses... Screw it if he gets pissed ill remove it, it's that simple, or he can simply update his license to make sense. All of my other mods i follow the license but on this it's screwed up, I just wanna use Ars Magica in my modpack ok? Ars Magica doesn't need me to ask permission from Mithion so why should i need to ask thehippomaster21 for permission to use Ars Magica, he didn't create that mod, he created this crappy API that has a bad license.

You need to ask permission from thehippomaster21 because he is the developer of this mod, not Ars Magica 2. His license makes perfect sense if you take a moment, slow down, breathe, and read the words. It's all there, in english, i promise you.
one last time, in plain english:
-if you plan on playing a modpack yourself, privately, you do not need to get perms.
but
-if you plan on crafting a modpack for distribution, whether it's via dropbox, ftb launcher, or ATLauncher, you must follow the directions laid out in section 3 of the copyright.
3. REDISTRIBUTION This MOD may only be distributed where uploaded, mirrored, or otherwise linked to by the OWNER solely. All mirrors of this modmust have advance written permission from the OWNER. ANY attempts to make money off of this MOD (selling, selling modified versions, adfly, sharecash, etc.) are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, and the OWNER may claim damages or take other action to rectify the situation.
If you guys don't get it at this point, I'm gonna assume you're trolling. It's getting ridiculous.
The problem is, I've asked for permissions. Thehippomaster21 isn't responding to permission requests. That is why i've asked for the Copyright to be updated to reflect modpack permissions more clearly.
Updated the copyright regarding mods using the AnimationAPI for any people who were confused.
Thank you!!!!! shouldn't you just put in the post that the mod is free to use in a modpack, because technically if the other mod doesn't give permission then you shouldn't use the other mod anyway, and from what i see this is just an api for other mods.
