hey? hey sky! i got a mod ya gotta review! its awesome!
Sky:no! i don't do mods!
me: screw you, im getting tha mudkip
anyways, awesome mod! i really think this could be BIG. i have some ideas.
MOAR EXPLOSIVES
on the topic of 1.7, when it comes ot maybe take the "Volcano Biome" and make it functional!
make Gunpowder Block explosive when lit on fire w/ a flint and steel
a sort of full block head thats a whole block. made w/ 4 of that head. (EG a full block enderman head would be 4 enderman heads in a square)
an new liquid called "Acid" it works like lava but
A:it doesn't burn items.
B:it flows as fast as water and ONLY generates underground.
also, a firework stand. right click with a firework in your hand to add it to the stand. when powered with redstone, all the fireworks will light off. it can hold a max of 10 fireworks.
Are you going to be updating it for Forge then? Or will that be too much of a hastle, because, since it edits base classes, it may require a whole re-write?
EDIT: Just saw a few posts above. Very sad that this wont (and maybe never will) work with any Forge mod
At the moment, no. It's too much of a hassle since this is a large mod.
Besides, there isn't much ModLoader mods left.
I actually had bad experience with coding in Forge, so I switched back to ModLoader for good. Forge isn't MCPatcher-friendly. ModLoader, on the other hand, is MCPatcher-friendly.
This mod, however, is compatible with several ModLoader mods.
I may be updating BetterCraft for MC 1.5.2 to have the features of BetterCraft version 2.5. It'll still use ModLoader but can be used with Forge in 1.5.2.
Besides, this is a large mod, it's like many small mods combined. Unlike many mods, this mod doesn't destroy the vanilla feeling. Trust me, I have played survival and it feels so... almost vanilla.
I'm still trying to find a way to re-code some class files in server jar.
Kitteh6660, any chance your Locked Chest Fix mod will be updated to 1.6.2, or did you stop development to work on this mod?
I decide I will include Locked Chest Fix in BetterCraft mod.
I also have several plans for enhancements including 2x2 crafting for Survival Inventory in Creative GUI and probably Add/Edit Layer buttons for Superflat presets. That is, if I can code that. The add and edit layer button once showed up but was never implemented.
No forge, no download =)
Also the lack of NPC's. THis is just another "MOAR STUFF" mod for me =) Do something that MC really comes short on, like vehicles of sort or NPC's or cities instead of villages...SOMETHING to differ from MC =)
Ill be checking back in few months see if this has improved =)
I'm afraid there won't be Forge version for a while.
This mod focus mainly on refining the vanilla. It doesn't add out-of-place content. Vehicles are sort of too complex for me, although I want to improve minecart to be usable as lava boat. I'm still learning Java.
This mod is usually equivalent to roughly 10 mods. I will continue to expand the mod. Check the to-do list on the first post for what I want to add/implement. This mod adds more than 'just stuff'. You see, this mod tweaks a lot of Minecraft, without the potential overpowered recipes and items.
There are still a lot to discover. Surround a damaged anvil with 8 iron ingots to repair it. Kill an enderman when they're holding block and it'll drop the block on death. Mobs not burning on Hard. That's some examples of the tweaks.
1.5.2 version of this mod works with Forge, but not 1.6.2. Blame whoever coded Forge to blocks all direct modification.
Once again, if Minecraft 1.7 comes out, I will still use ModLoader, refusing to switch to Forge. Forge is way TOO HARD for me, even with tutorials. Also, Forge completely destroys the 'vanilla' brand.
Unlike BTW, which adds items that doesn't even feel so vanilla. Some people love the vanilla feel and this mod retains the vanilla feel.
I like a lot of these tweaks, except, that some textures are 32x32, it just doesn't look well, and although many things are with a vanilla feel, others do not, so. I would like to ask, could you make your items configurable?
This is a reviewish post, not trying to troll or something, thanks for reading this

You need to install ModLoader.
I'll update BetterCraft for Minecraft 1.6.4 as well, if ModLoader gets updated as well.
I just want to let you know that ModLoader has not been updated for 1.6.4 and unfortunately it is unlikely to be updated for 1.7.2.
I've tried my best to hold off on Forge requirement. Unfortunately, I don't think I can hold it off much longer.
The next version of BetterCraft will, unfortunately, use Forge. Sorry.
I understand how fans of ModLoader feel.
Don't worry, if ModLoader ever gets updated, I will update the ModLoader version of the mod!
The ModLoader version (BetterCraft v2.5) is still archived if you want to use it.
I've always loved to play BetterCraft along with some ModLoader mods.
Starting in 1.7.2, BetterCraft will use Forge, that is, if I can get it to work. I've never coded in Forge before so it will be great opportunity for me to learn. There will be a lot of changes and if I can figure out how to override base classes without editing, it would go well.

You'll love forge. I'd recommend some of Vswe's forge tutorials to help you start out, and scratchforfun is great too. Search them up on youtube.
Oh, and btw, if you need help if anything relatively simple feel free to ask me.
The bad news is that the new version of BetterCraft requires Forge.
The good news is that it eliminates virtually all incompatibilities. It has no base class edits.
I have released the first version of BetterCraft for Forge for Minecraft 1.6.4! I'll get the source code set up on GitHub eventually.
The only reason I switched to Forge is that ModLoader has not been updated for months. I've held off on Forge for few months. Since ModLoader is not updated, my only option is to switch to Forge.
I've re-added the mob drops. Currently not affected by Looting though.
I've also re-added the slabs. I'm looking into fixing the slabs not being able to stack.
Netherwood Door texture has been changed to look better.
Ender Dragon now drops dragonscale armor.
There is one new armor set: Slime armor. As long as you wear it, your health will slowly regenerate. Time between regeneration is reduced with more pieces worn.
Bonemeal can be used on Netherwood saplings now. (Currently it's grown from a single bonemeal like pre-1.5.)
I'm afraid not. Sorry. 1.6.4 is the first version to use Forge. The only reason I switched to Forge is that ModLoader did not get updated.
BetterCraft mod began as a collaboration of my previous mods and in 1.5, the unlimited texture sprite was introduced and even ModLoader can take advantage of it. When 1.6 came out, I sticked to ModLoader and remained so until 1.6.2. When 1.6.4 came out (1.6.4 came out few months after 1.6.2) and ModLoader didn't update, I waited for a month. After seeing that it did not get updated, I had to switch to Forge.
But I do know that 1.5.2 can be installed alongside with Forge if you use MCPatcher but it can lead to few incompatibilities with some Forge mods. BetterCraft v2.3 for Minecraft 1.5.2 needs to be installed into Minecraft.jar.

The mod now supports SMP! Also, you can repair tools and armor with anvil now!
After hours of testing, it finally works. Keep in mind that the mod is still in beta.
