This mod introduces the item "Staff of Moses", which can be obtained with the help of a burning bush.
With the staff equipped, right-click in the direction of water will create a passage to a dramatic music cut from "The Prince of Egypt"; right-click in any other direction or logging out will close all passages. One passage is maximum 5 blocks wide and 64 blocks long (it is now configurable); it may be narrower if the coastline is irregular (I might fix this someday).
Hit stone with the staff to create a source of water.
Left-click water to turn all water around into blood and back.
As people have suggested, there is now a staff that parts both water and lava.
This mod should work in single player and multiplayer.
(You'll need to download the version of Forge installer appropriate for your Minecraft version at http://files.minecraftforge.net/)
2. Download the Moses Mod (see top of the post)
3. Copy the jar/zip file into your .minecraft/mods folder
In order for the mod to work in multiplayer, it has to be installed both on the server and on the client. The installation process on the server is basically the same as on the client and is covered in the Minecraft Forge Wiki.

How to obtain the Staff (Hint)
1. It is not crafted manually.
2. A staff is usually made from a stick, and a bush is usually something with leaves. And the other Staff
The regular Staff of Moses has to meet lava.
Change Log
v 1.3.4
Added the turning water into blood feature
Attempted to fix the staffs disappearing after transformation. Again.
v 1.2
Updated to Minecraft v1.6.2
v 1.1.2
Probably fixed the Staff disappearing if the bush is put on fire before a stick is thrown on it.
v 1.1.1
Added the Burnt Staff of Moses that parts both water and lava and has special sound effects too.
Fixed flowing water not triggering the passage and not being restored properly.
Improved performance.
v 1.0.2
Lowered the default length of a single passage to 64.
The width and length of a passage are now adjustable via the configuration file located at [minecraft dir]/config/MosesMod.cfg
v 1.0.1
Fixed bug: the staff is now obtained in the fire of a bush, not just any fire.
v 1.0.0
Sort of first official release. I decided to mark this version 1.0 because all the basic functionality that had been originally conceived was implemented.
Each player's passages are treated separately in multiplayer. All of your passages will be closed when you log out.
Improved the sound system. Now every player should hear the sounds of opening and closing passages around any point of it, if they are close enough.
v 0.3.0
Updated to Minecraft version 1.5.2
v 0.2.0
Hitting stone with the staff will create a source of water.
v 0.1.0
Water mechanics have been updated in Minecraft, so I actually had to rewrite almost all of my code.
The Staff is now obtainable. The process is a little bit buggy, so it might not work on the first try.
This is really cool! But with the logout feature, does that play nicely with SMP?
SMP should work, I've tested it several times. But if you have any issues, please report them to this thread, I would appreciate it very much.
Or did you mean that it might not be the most suitable behavior? Would you rather have the passages remain after the player has left?
Fixed that bug. Now only the fire from the bush should work, not just any fire.

It would be cool if there was a way to put the water back in place without logging out plus it would look cool.
What about throwing the staff and it becomes a giant snake? Hit it once and it will become a staff again.

Don't know if you'd like to support it, but parting lava (especially in the nether) would be awesome too. Maybe a 2nd staff, upgrade or just the ability to part lava too. Would be damn useful sometimes (and really epic, to be honest).
Great mod, really like it. Only problem is that water sometimes comes back. I'm trying to make a large area water free so that Millienaire villages have more room to build but whenever I come back the water seems to refill it self. Is there any way to make this permanent?
At first I made the open passages permanent, but then part of the legend said Moses had closed the waters of the Red Sea behind so that the Egyptian army was crushed. That's why I made it so that the passages would open and close, and in the simplest way possible: with the same old right-click. With that you can always undo the damage done to the scenery with my not-so-perfect water removing algorithm.
However, it should be quite easy to make certain passages permanent in terms of coding, but what do you think of the user interface? How should this work? And does it really play with the legend of Moses? I didn't intend this staff to be a sort of terra-forming tool, because there's a lot of other mods that do that and much more in a more efficient and consistent way. Let me know what you think of this.
What do you think of the lava parting-closing sounds? Also I was considering removing the orchestral piece when parting water, because it becomes quite annoying over time, especially when you click multiple times at once, don't you think so?
How about a staff to greenify the dessert and making a small river? Greenify = Making sand to grass and dirt. Also the possibility to make a small river and hills/mountains. So everybody may make his own Kanaan.
As requirement, you have to craft The Ten Commandments before. You get 2 stones (should be pretty expensive to craft) and this 2 you need to craft the 2 last staffs.
Staff 1: Convert sand to grass with left-click & right-click to generate a river.
Staff 2: Generate hills/mountains with left-click & right-click to generate canyons.
Both staffs are only working in the dessert-biome (just a thought).
Thank you for suggestions, MickyFoley. I don't think I'll do it anytime soon though, as it seems like a lot of work and I want to finish my other mod.

You can put the water back the same way as in single player, by right-clicking on something other than water.

Could you please clarify? I'm not sure I understood your point correctly: water should run UP the "walls" of the passage at 45゜ to the vertical?
