I would love nothing more than to have a 1.7.10 version. This mod is great & can be used in a load of modpacks if it just existed.
As for 1.8, I could only find some mods that weren't the poorly made ones. Thaumcraft V being one of them, & that one isn't even finished yet.
Even still for post 1.8, there are barely any mods worth installing. I've browsed the mods on curse page for long whiles, searching for something with good mechanics, textures, & models. I could only find a handful, & that disturbs me. I am excited for Ice and Fire, and that one isn't even released yet!
Overall, I'm worried that the modding community is withering away while trying to keep itself alive with all of the strength it has. After the change in the system that 1.8 made, I get the horrible feeling that most good modders rage-quit. It pains me to think that I could never see Flaxbeard's Steam Power thrive in later versions, or the lesser known ones like Waystone being scrapped & left to rot as time moves on and they don't get updated.

Now look, buddy. I'm an Engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like 'what is beauty', because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems. Like, how am I going to stop some big, mean mother-hubbard from tearing me a structurally superfluous new behind? The answer: Use a gun. And if that don't work: Use more gun. Like this heavy-caliber, tripod-mounted little ol' number designed by me. Built by me. And you'd best hope, not pointed at you.

When you post a mod: "No pics no clicks" and "MCreator = bad ~99% of the time"
Umm... do I have permission to update this to 1.7.10? I loved this mod in 1.6.2, and would like to at least have it in my 1.7 worlds.
EDIT: man this is annoying to update. May I just rewrite it completely?
It would probably be for the best if you did a complete re-write just using the textures, or if you want new ones, asking for help. I for one wouldn't mind making textures to try and help bring this mod back to life

other than the other person quoted in this reply, no progress whatsoever has been made
Only real annoying thing right now is the torch arrow. Is there any specific advantage to placing an entity instead of a normal torch block? This could shave about two hours off the rewrite.
The longbow is half-done code-wise and the repair function is revamped allowing enchantment persisting (probably), at the cost of requiring a bowstring (3 string in a crafting table) instead of 3 string because it takes time to make a good bowstring, y'know? (more like I don't know how to make it consume multiple items).

hmmmmmmm... could you cheat and steal some command block setup? IE: torch arrows summon a falling sand entity that works like a torch and once it touches a solid block it changes back?

I can do that, but I don't see the point. Was there any special reason to implement the torch as an entity?

to get the torch to place on the walls, you trick it into thinking its a falling sand entity, and, if possible, tell it that any surface it touches, stick to it. Otherwise you could just not do the torch arrows, I'm sure people would be more than happy to have 98% of this mod updated and playable, allowing you to experiment without the pressure of needy people saying "is the mod done yet?" "can we get an update" "is there a release yet?"
Also, if your ONLY updating to 1.7.10, tell people when you make a new thread, have it in big red letters at the top of the post, so you can ignore those who say "update to 1.8/1.9/1.10/1.##". But if you plan to do that later on, which I would suggest as there is a slowly growing fan base in 1.9.4/10.2 (I for one am kinda in love with 10.2 at the moment, after begrudgingly moving from 1.7.10, soon falling in love with 10.2, anyway), if you do decide that you want to update later on, let people know, and tell them to be patient. If they get ancy and beg for an update, drop the "NOPE" hammer, release source, and say "do it yourself", that is, if you want to, for all I care, you could get done reading this and say "lol nope" and only do 1.7.10, keep source private, and walk away laughing at everyone.

Woop! I fixed the bloody textures so now everything on the bows work properly now! Now to make the arrows and quiver. Should I recode the quiver or make the bows battlegear compatible? Battlegear makes this much easier, but then there'd be an extra mod you need to install for full features... on the other hand, I can make it compatible with both, for approximately the time saved from not recoding the torch arrow.

Start with recoding for yourself IE: just this mod, then add support AFTER, because your not forcing people to have to use another mod. Standalone is very appealing to those who look at pretty pictures and download. Trust me... you see a LOT of new accounts with one comment "it crashed what did I do wrong?" kinda things because NOBODY*******READSANYMORE but yea, standalone better, integrate after, plus, if you do it that way, when your coding into the other mod to play nicely, if it crashes you can go "oh! I messed up in my code" and learn from it, or go "hey, they messed up, but if they do this and that, they can make it better, and be able to get rid of those lines!" and learn more.
If you're updating to 1.9.4 or 1.10.2, there's a mod called Bullseye that adds a bunch of arrows, as well as Vaskii's Quark adding a few of it's own. If you just add compatibility to those, you should be fine for arrow diversity.
EDIT: oh, you're porting to 1.7.10. Never mind then, but it's something to think about before people nag you to update again.
Hey, so, as promised, one without arrows. There's the yumi, recurve, and the longbow, as well as a WIP fire arrow and a "derp" arrow (normal arrow replaced). You can only shoot arrows from them, and the bowstring doesn't have textures and the fire arrow texture is broken, but it's okay, I guess.
All bows except the composite, all arrows except the torch and the potion arrows. Everything is updated except for the torch and potion arrows and the quiver (the composite takes roughly 5 seconds to type up). The old method is a bit complicated, so I cut some corners when updating.
When the second version comes out, I'll move this to a new thread.

I don't remember much... it was... several years ago... but what I do remember was that this mod added a few new bows, the Yuma, a bow made from sugar cane that was very large; the long bow, like the Yuma but more durability and much longer draw time to full power; the Recurve bow, a step up from the regular bow, adding a "recurve" to it, increasing its power, having a much longer draw time, but hitting like a brick even at half power; the Composit bow, a bow made from bones and sticks, hitting hard and having a medium draw time; the short bow, a smaller bow with a short draw tie and a medium power, good for short range type bow attacks
I think that's about it for bows, as for recipes I really don't remember, but would be more than willing to contribute what I think they should be if you want.
It also added a handfull of new arrows, like the Torch Arrow, Fire Arrow, Explosive Arrow, Piecing arrow, and some others that I can't think of, the piercing arrow might be from another mod but i"m not sure. I think it might have added another arrow called the "Slow Arrow" that was made with soul-sand, sticks, and feathers.
(EDIT:) I've been going throught he pages of the thread, looking for things, and found this little gem, I"ll also be adding things if I find them, or just make new comments
"
New features:
* Splitting arrow, can be crafted by placing any number of arrows and half that number of string. This is a shapeless recipe. These arrows will split into the number of arrows they were crafted with a little bit after being fired."
* Added a new bow, the yumi, a Japanese bow with a bit less power than a longbow.
* Drill arrow, it will drill through usually six blocks of stone before stopping. The amount will vary according to what type of material it hits.
(Drill arrow recipe)
One of the most notable features of this mod was the quiver, and its own backslot for it and the ability to scroll through different arrows loaded in it.
Another thing I remember was custom arrow renders for each bow and each type of arrow so you could see what you were shooting.
IF you're also looking to ADD features, I'd be more than willing to throw a few ideas into the pot
