Carpenter's windows would be awesome.
Something else that would be cool is glowing carpenter's blocks. Maybe make the recipe 1 glowstone dust and 1 carpenter's block each, or 1 glowstone block surrounded by 8 carpenter's blocks for 8 glowing blocks.

I've considered glowing blocks for a long time, but at the same time it might be a little weird. Essentially, you'd apply glowstone dust to the block and it would glow. I may try this out for the next release.
Windows are a definite possibility, I'm just trying to figure out the best way to implement them. The idea is still a little fuzzy.

Here's my idea for Windows:
They're like Glass Panes. You put Carpenter's blocks around the edges of a glass pane to craft it. You can use any block for the frame of the Window (Since it is a Carpenter's Frame) and they connect to each other automatically. (Use a Carpenter's Hammer on a Carpenter's Window to stop it from connecting). Generally, almost any type of Glass Pane can be used as the base for a Carpenter's Window.

That is an interesting way of doing it. There's many factors that need to be addressed, like connecting windows, custom window designs, and shutter integration. I plan on working on this next, so hopefully it doesn't take too long.

And, just for fun added block illumination:
Thanks for thinking that, and maybe those could be used for Chisel and Hammer thingies on a Carpenter's Window, and that screenshot kind of looks like a glowstone placed under a Carpenter's block with grass on it.

Released an updated development build version R4 for MC 1.7.10. Includes a few fixes, and a few new things. Give it a shot and let me know of any bugs.
Hey I am huge fan of your mod but I also like stability can you fix your errors?
[11:15:32] [Client thread/ERROR] [FML]: Detected an attempt by a mod FMLMod:CarpentersBlocks{3.2.8} to perform game activity during mod construction. This is a serious programming error. I noticed the mods with this issue cause startup hangs.
Attention everyone: I've released new builds for MC 1.6.4, MC 1.7.2, and moved the development build to stable for MC 1.7.10 after being made aware of a pretty serious dupe bug. I don't expect the change to create any problems, so I consider it "stable." But of course let me know of any bugs.

The code is exactly the same (or at least very close) to the master branch, and I don't receive that error on startup. I wouldn't worry about it. If anything it's doing block/item initialization stuff at the wrong time, but FML has never really documented the initialization process well.
I'm honestly surprised with how quickly you done the block illumination and how it's implemented (I kinda forgot about the overlay feature.)
Would it be too much to make it a toggle-able lamp by shift+right click with redstone? Sorry if I'm adding much to the "to do" list.
It is possible, but for now just a simple implementation is good enough. I don't necessarily want this property to rely on other things, otherwise people could easily get confused.
Thanks for being so descriptive (and for taking images).
Indeed it seems the new fancy fluids implementation of turning the blocks into water material during rendering is causing some unsightly bugs. It also turns out Optifine's multicore chunk loader kills it. Unfortunately I can't think of any other way to make fancy fluids look decent... all out of ideas! I'd suggest just disabling fancy fluids in the configuration for now if the glitches are bugging you.
Pressure plates and a few others blocks now support placement on any side of a block, and the pressure plate's old metadata of 0 now means "upside-down." Just replace the pressure plate and all will be good.

One decorative thing I really like from Railcraft is the lanterns. Would it be possible to somehow expand upon the Carpenter's Torch to provide a variety of lamp/lantern styles including some industrial looking version?

If it's blocky and non-angular, then absolutely make a suggestion and I will try to implement it. Images help, as I'm rarely patient enough to grab mods unless I'm fixing a bug.

A bit of bug report here: side covers may cause z-fighting if there is another block on that side. Can you fix it, please?
Side covers won't pop off the side unless fully obstructed by a solid block. Side covers don't check whether they should render based on adjacent blocks, so they'll z-fight... that's just how it works.
Got a glitch with the garage door (v3.3.0, MC1.7.10) . If I try to give it the texture of a block, it shuts. I have to open it again in order to see what I've done. This doesn't happen with the ordinary door. It's slightly annoying and time-consuming. Is it possible to fix it?
--EDIT--
Attached is a strange glitch involving the daylight sensor (again, v3.3.0, MC1.7.10). Look at the screenshot below.
1. Can't reproduce it. They cover without activating exactly as they should.
2. Also can't reproduce it. Give me an idea of what causes it to occur.
Thank you very much, both. These are LOTS of fun.

This game is so oreing.
Oops, some code was in the wrong spot. It's been corrected, just download it again.
Tested, works great. Yaaay!

Until someone ports this legendary mod I am leaving the minecraft scene. http://www.cosc.canterbury.ac.nz/greg.ewing/minecraft/mods/ArchitectureCraft/#mozTocId598776 I have watched too many legendary mods die and carpenters blocks sudden fallout out of mainstream made me cry. I realize the source is messy but some of the best mods from 1.6.4 and 1.7.10 were.
